did you use any options to obsdfreqd(1)? Like in

obsdfreqd -T 50 ?

Apart from that... I have obsdfreqd(1) running with -T 60. I very rarely
hear the fans of my Lenovo X1 Carbon 5th (2017). Your fans run at full
throttle even with only 55°C? Are the fans clean or dusty?

Well, I have the same issue on Lenovo V15 G2 laptop...
When compiling something while doing other stuff like watching video,
it will sometimes get 90 degC.
I'm on -current, and without hyperthreading.
When I invoke apm, it cannot detect battery and AC adapter.

Actually, I have had this problem for a long time, but I'm lazy.
Now, someone need help, so I want to make some exploration.

I remembered the obsdfreqd by Solene%
https://dataswamp.org/~solene/2022-03-21-openbsd-cool-frequency.html
It is available in 7.2.
I set the temperature to 60 and do some heavy load like before, it works fine.

I think this may be helpful to you too

Plugged in or on battery?

If that's plugged in, is it any better on battery?

See if you can't get some effect from using apm/apmd (see
https://man.openbsd.org/apm).

openbsd get really hot/warm

2023-03-02 Thread lm2

hello

unfortunately since a week I was wondering about something :

on two old hp elitebook, it looks like under win7 and linux/LMDE, that at a
general glance everything looks correct

but on openbsd, something happens, even if CPU is not high : it's a huge
overheating, with fans going almost everytime in the high speed, and lower case
of the laptop, almost burning (in a way it's really warm, impossible to get it
a minute on laps)

I saw the same problem on an asus laptop.

is there anyway to know where it come from?

openbsd v7.1

under win7 and linux (lmde5), this problem doesnt happens. It's really strange.
