Re: [Mixxx-devel] proposal of a new mixxx option
Hi Tasso, thank you for the suggestion. This was already reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1009987 But I am afraid this is not a good solution for your use case. You can easily have two tracks with the same DB peaks, sounding different loud. So a limiter is more to protect your sound systems from peak voltages. Currently the samples are just clamped at 1. which leads to a bearable frequency distortion, similar to a bit crusher effect. A limiter would just reduce the master volume over a period of time. For the Mixxx decks your use-case is solved by the replay gain analysis. http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=ReplayGain_1.0_specification If you whant to do the same for external sourced like Vinyl Passrough Aux or Mic we need a compressor in the input only. I think we have no such bug, but its similar to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1000759 https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/857450 So I have just filed https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1370891 Is it that what you need? Or do you need something different? If you like to implement it yourselves, you will receive all the help you need. It is just a combination of code sniped that are already in place :-) Kind regards. Daniel 2014-09-18 1:44 GMT+02:00 Tasso tasso.zoi...@gmail.com: Hello, I would first like to thank all the people that make mixxx possible. I would like to propose a limiter to equal the sound and manage to always peak at 0 db the recordings that are possible with mixxx. You know like when you listen to a radio station and all the music tracks played all limit to 0 db, no matter the track played, cuz you probably already know that each vinyl you play isnt always recorded with the same db level, like Sony or Arista or Hooj Choons dont all that the same db level. I'd like to have finally a dj software that makes you sound just like if you were in possession of all the cool gadgets radio stations have to make the level of their output be as close as possible to 0 db and avoid clipping but still encourage a sound of quality while mixing 2 tracks together. By the way, I love what you did from 1.10 to 1.11, the colors are great and the Queen Mary bpm analyser is really awesome. Thanks again for a great software. I'm so glad you're with Qt.
