Re: [Mixxx-devel] proposal of a new mixxx option

2014-09-18 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Hi Tasso,

thank you for the suggestion.

This was already reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1009987

But I am afraid this is not a good solution for your use case.

You can easily have two tracks with the same DB peaks, sounding different
loud.
So a limiter is more to protect your sound systems from peak voltages.
Currently the samples are just clamped at 1. which leads to a bearable
frequency distortion, similar to a bit crusher effect.
A limiter would just reduce the master volume over a period of time.

For the Mixxx decks your use-case is solved by the replay gain analysis.
http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=ReplayGain_1.0_specification

If you whant to do the same for external sourced like Vinyl Passrough Aux
or Mic we need a compressor in the input only.

I think we have no such bug, but its similar to:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1000759
https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/857450

So I have just filed https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1370891

Is it that what you need? Or do you need something different?

If you like to implement it yourselves, you will receive all the help you
need.
It is just a combination of code sniped that are already in place :-)

Kind regards.

Daniel

 Hello,

I would first like to thank all the people that make mixxx possible.

I would like to propose a limiter to equal the sound and manage to
always peak at 0 db the recordings that are possible with mixxx. You
know like when you listen to a radio station and all the music tracks
played all limit to 0 db, no matter the track played, cuz you probably
already know that each vinyl you play isnt always recorded with the
same db level, like Sony or Arista or Hooj Choons dont all that the
same db level. I'd like to have finally a dj software that makes you
sound just like if you were in possession of all the cool gadgets
radio stations have to make the level of their output be as close as
possible to 0 db and avoid clipping but still encourage a sound of
quality while mixing 2 tracks together.

By the way, I love what you did from 1.10 to 1.11, the colors are
great and the Queen Mary bpm analyser is really awesome.

Thanks again for a great software. I'm so glad you're with Qt.

 Waiting for your reply,
 Cheers,
 Tasso

Re: [Mixxx-devel] WINDOWS TESTERS NEEDED -- Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8

2014-09-18 Thread Max Linke

Hi

I just tested some builds on a fresh windows 7 SP 1 64bit installation.

64bit version v4646
===
- installer not signed
- wants to install in (C:\Program Files (x86)\Mixxx
- MSVCR120D.dll is missing can't start

32bit version v4646
===
- installer not signed
- MSVCR120D.dll is missing can't start

64/32bit version mediafoundation file
===
- installer not signed
- wants to install in (C:\Program Files (x86)\Mixxx
- debug window stays open
- different color for 'RGB' and 'RGB(GL)' waveform
- all soundFileFormat sample tracks run
- autoDJ fades to the wrong deck (I haven't tested yet if I can
reproduce this on linux)

- waveforms work all well

Howdy Mixxxers,

I need 32-bit and 64-bit testers! These builds should work on Windows
XP up through Windows 8, so I need test results from everyone.

Windows 32-bit:
http://downloads.mixxx.org/builds/master/mixxx-1.12.0-alpha-x86-2014_09_13_hss1394_and_mediafoundation.exe

Windows 64-bit:
http://downloads.mixxx.org/builds/master/mixxx-1.12.0-alpha-x64-2014_09_14_hss1394_and_mediafoundation.exe

Note: You can run Mixxx 32-bit on a 64-bit version of Windows. You
can't run a 64-bit version of Mixxx on a 32-bit version of Windows. If
you are on 64-bit Windows, it would be helpful if you could test out
both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

These are built from commit a49945
https://github.com/mixxxdj/mixxx/commit/a49945ffdccd87584b201d2e222c1396a4fb490f.

Please reply (preferably reply-all) answering these questions:

1) Windows version AND service pack -- right-click My Computer and hit
Properties

Example: Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1
2) Windows 32-bit or 64-bit
3) Mixxx 32-bit or 64-bit build? (i.e. which you downloaded above)
4) Did the installer succeed?
5) Did it crash on start-up? (If so, how, can you repeat it, what
error messages, etc.)
6) Did it crash after start-up? (If so, how, can you repeat it, what
error messages, etc.)

Optional Questions (you rock if you answer these!):

Audio File Questions:
7) Did MP3 files load and play?
8) Did WAV files load and play?
9) Did FLAC files load and play?
10) Did M4A / AAC files load and play?
11) Did OGG files load and play?

Waveform Questions (change types in Preferences - Waveforms)
12) Did Filtered (GL) waveforms work?
13) Did GLSL waveforms work?
14) Did Software waveforms work?
15) Any corruption / glitching?

Note, I'm mostly interested in crashes and bugs that seem specific to
this new Windows build. For all other bugs, please file a bug
http://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+filebug.

Known issues:
* Some Mixxx 1.12.0 skins are missing.

Yea, I'll get us a Windows certificate to do that.
