Re: [Mixxx-devel] discussion about idea for GSOC (Track Meta Data Editor)

2016-03-15 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Hi Max, Hi Syed

Yes, MusicBrainz seams to be really the only service which allows us to
identify
tracks without Metadata, by fingerprint only.
From my experience the received Metadata does sometimes not suits to my
needs.
This is caused by the extreme big database of every recording on
Musicbrains,
including samplers, but I do not like to include the sampler year and
album name into the track.
I prefer the original recording data.
I find myself verifying the Metadata by Discogs, which has also a public
API.
There are other online resources which are specialised on other genres
or features.

Kind regards

Daniel

There aren't a lot of databases for this sort of thing. Especially ones
that are free to use and over a public API. There is pretty much only
MusicBrainz.

It is nice that you want to use more then one database to look up
information. But then you should also list the databases you want to use
and show us documentation how it can be used.

Re: [Mixxx-devel] discussion about idea for GSOC (Track Meta Data Editor)

2016-03-15 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Hi Syed,

ha, I understand, you ask two for a track and if the returned meta-data
is matching, then the answer is correct.

But I wonder how you ask, if the Meta data in Mixxx are not correct (our
use case) For example you have a misspelled artist.

.. and what if both resources are returning the most common recording of
a track, but it is actually a special remix.

I think It is a good idea to list a couple of cases we are facing and
propose strategies to handle them. You should have any possible problem
in mind when lets say record a cool track from Youtube.

Kind regards,

Daniel

Re: [Mixxx-devel] discussion about idea for GSOC (Track Meta Data Editor)

2016-03-15 Thread Syed afsahul
Hello Sir,
I am not sure what exactly you asked for but if you mean to ask how will
Mixxx decide the authenticity of the data then,

As mentioned earlier in my email, the way I propose to acquire error free
meta data is compare data from multiple online sources.

For example we could acquire data from two different sources for same track
like year of release and then compare the year we received from the
database of the source, if year of released obtained from both the online
sources is same then we can consider it correct but if not then we could
refer another source, get data from there and compare it with previous two,
if any of the two data matches we could consider it correct and if it
doesn't then we could ask the user to choose from the acquired three data.
I plan to do this for every meta data. The shortcoming of this method will
be that it will be quite slow.Usually we should get matching data from the
first two sources.

Please point out any flaw ,if you find any ,in my idea.

Also, I will be very thankful if you mentioned what problem exactly Mixxx
is facing in meta data of tracks and which meta data is still missing or of
poor quality as mentioned in student project idea for GSOC page.
