[Mobile.AI] Fw: Accessible Android - Website of the month September 2013
Accessible Android - Website of the month September 2013 From: Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Sent: Tuesday, September 03, 2013 5:01 AM To: tahahaa...@gmail.com Subject: Accessible Android - Website of the month September 2013 Having trouble viewing this email? View it as a Web page. You are subscribed to TechKnowMore blog for Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). Accessible Android - Website of the month September 2013 02-09-2013 10:25 AM BST Body: Android accessibility has improved hugely over the last two years, and while most people would agree it's not yet at the stage that Apple has reached with their iOS software for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, it's catching up fast. One of the good things about Apple accessibility is the way that blind people have taken to it and created a lot of support materials for new users in the way of audio clips and documentation. A prime example of this is the AppleVis website, run by and for visually impaired Apple users. Android resources have been thin on the ground by comparison. Which is why it's so refreshing to hear about the Accessible Android website. The website is a blog by Ana G, an Android user since 2010. She's blind, and uses the TalkBack screen reader that now comes as part of Android. The website contains a history of Android accessibility and a growing list of links to other blogs, Google's official information, cool apps and the That Android Show podcast. Ana also has links to Android discussion lists. The website has only been going since July. It's a revamp of an earlier blog that ran for most of 2011 and is still available, but quite out of date. I'm sure the new site will proof invaluable to both new and experienced users who are interested in Android accessibility. But no one woman can do this all on her own, and I really hope others join in and help create a rich variety of resources to help spread the word. Got a suggestion? We want to hear from you, our users. Which apps and websites should we be writing about on the TechKnowMore blog? Is there an app you can no longer live without? What website is at the top of your favourites list? Drop us an email on digitalacc...@rnib.org.uk to let us know, and your favourite service could be featured in the very near future! [Mobile.AI] Fans in India lament death of a brand after Microsoft buys Nokia mobile unit: The Times of India
-- Forwarded message -- From: Anil Kumar tanmaykal...@gmail.com Date: Tue, 3 Sep 2013 21:41:56 +0530 Subject: [SayEverything] Fans in India lament death of a brand after Microsoft buys Nokia mobile unit: The Times of India To: sayeveryth...@sayeverything.org New delhi: Nokia was one of the few brands, especially in India, that could match the emotional connect Apple had with its consumers. Now this brand is gone. While full details are still awaited, there is a strong possibility that the world may never see a Nokia phone again. And Nokia fans, who feel they have an emotional connect with the brand, are not happy. According to the deal between Microsoft and Nokia, the software giant is buying the devices and services division of the Finnish company. It is not buying Nokia brand. But Lumia and Asha brands are changing hands. Nokia will continue to be a separate company and it will have full rights on Nokia branding. But it may never make a phone again. For Clinton Jeff, a blogger who started writing about phones because he fell in love with his Nokia N95 in 2006, the announcement of Microsoft-Nokia deal broke his heart. We knew it was coming. But it was still a surprise. It still makes me very sad... what the heck! Nokia had started coming back in the game. They were doing good in the low-end of the smartphone market, said Jeff, who blogs at UnleashThePhone.com. Dhruv Bhutani, another blogger who started writing about technology because he loved his Nokia phones too much, has the same sentiments. You grow up with a brand, see it becoming the world leader. You start off your career because of that brand. And then see it slowly die out... (it) doesn't feel very good, he said. Jeff said that while Microsoft would make phones that would be similar to what Nokia was producing, he don't think many people would get the save vibes from those products. Nokia was one of top brands in India. It was trusted. People don't think about Microsoft in the same way. They associate it with Windows, Internet Explorer and that kind of stuff and not with solid phones, said Jeff. I am sure we will see Nokia-like features and design in phones made under Microsoft branding but they won't have the same emotional appeal, not at least me. Judging from the reactions to Microsoft-Nokia deal on Twitter, this sentiment was shared by many. F**k the business sense behind it. I am too bummed for the personal touch identity which Nokia had. That's why it was special, wrote Yash Maheswari, another blogger who often reviewed Nokia devices. Narendra Kumar, who describes himself as a gadget freak on his Twitter page, summed it aptly. Sad day for all Nokia fans. No more Nokia Now, he tweeted. -- Get registered for SayEverything convention 2013 at: http://www.sayeverything.org/4th-sayeverything-convention-2013/ If any time you wish to be unsubscribed from our Mailing List, please send a message to sayeverything-requ...@sayeverything.org with the subject unsubscribe keeping the message body blank. Re: [Mobile.AI] Query on Transfering contacts and messeges
Think you have the option to copy contacts from your phone and sim card to the google account associated with the phone. On the new phone if you connect it with the same account, then you can access the contacts. I transferred my contacts from my old Nokia to my Xolo through Bluetooth. Transfer files through Bluetooth, go to the inbuilt contact app, that is named people on q700, from the options, select import on the next screen, select the directory where your Bluetooth folder is situated, select all files and import. [Mobile.AI] Google says next version of Android will be called KitKat: The Times of India
Google says next version of Android will be called KitKat NEW DELHI: Sundar Pichai, head of Android division at Google, on Tuesday revealed on Twitter that the next version of the company's mobile operating system (OS) will be called Android KitKat. We now have over 1 billion Android activations and hope this guy in front of the building keeps that momentum going, Pichai tweeted as well as posted an image of a giant Android mascot built like KitKat chocolate. Earlier, there were rumours that the next version of the OS would be called Android Key Lime Pie. Since Android 1.5, Google has named each version of the OS after a sweet. Android 1.5 was Cupcake. Android 1.6 was Donut. Android 2.0 was Eclair. Android 2.2 was Froyo. Android 2.3 was Gingerbread. Android 3.0 was Honeycomb. Android 4.0 was Ice Cream Sandwich. And Android 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 have been called Jelly Bean. Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert... As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat, Google said. The KitKat will be Android 4.4. So far there is no word on when Google will release this OS but it is likely to debut in the market with the new Nexus phone in the coming months. Google announced the new version of Android just minutes after Apple sent out invites for an event on September 10 where it is likely to launch the next version of iPhone. For KitKat name Google has tied up with Nestle, which makes KitKat chocolates. We couldn't imagine a better name for our Android K release than the tasty chocolate that's been a favourite among the team since the early days of Android, said Marc Vanlerberghe, director of Android marketing. Nestle said that to mark the release of Android KitKat, more than 50 million specially branded KitKat bars will be available in 19 countries including Australia, Brazil, Germany, India, Japan, Dubai, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The packs will lead consumers to the website www.android.com/kitkat where they will have the opportunity to win prizes including a limited number of Google Nexus 7 tablets, and credits to spend in Google Play. A small number of Android robot-shaped KitKat bars will be offered as prizes in selected markets. -- Search for previous postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in ___ Mobile.accessindia mailing list Mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in http://accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in to post send mail to: mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in Disclaimer: 1. Re: [Mobile.AI] Suggestion required on Android 4.2.2 Phones (Urgent)
hi, firstly, 4 gb mean that you will get around 2 gb user memory, secondly, even 2 gb memory is quite enough to store your applications and there data. you might like to use sd card for other media, that way, your phone wont go out of storage so it shouldnt be a big deal. Re: [Mobile.AI] about nokia
hi, if you prefer to use nokia's symbian bassed phones, then you are mostly out of luck as no symbian bassed phones are being produced by nokia now a days. if you can find, nokia e6 and e7 use to be touch and type phones and might be available in some stores or if you are willing to try something new, then go for androide or IOS whatever fits in your budget. ios accessibility is quite good while androide is also very much manageable with some alterations, applications and tweeks. if you go with androide, make sure you choos to buy androide 4.1 or above at least. Re: [Mobile.AI] Google says next version of Android will be called KitKat: The Times of India
hi friends. I have some doubts please quick reply. Its mean if anybody perchase 4.3 jellyBeen phone then He will not get update to 4.4 in future? Or He has to perchase kitKat phone only? On 9/4/13, anil kumar artprat...@gmail.com wrote: Google says next version of Android will be called KitKat NEW DELHI: Sundar Pichai, head of Android division at Google, on Tuesday revealed on Twitter that the next version of the company's mobile operating system (OS) will be called Android KitKat.
