[Mobile.AI] My experience with android

2014-02-27 Thread Pavan Kumar Bolar
Hello list

I am writing this mail to share my experiences with my first touch screen
phone.

I bought Google nexus 5 during Jan 2014 and one month on I am a very happy
and satisfied customer.

I preferred android over iOS as they are cheaper than apple products.

I selected nexus 5 as it came with latest operating system KitKat 4.4.2 and
stalk android with no customizations.

The initial days was tough getting used to the touch scre but now I am very
comfortable with it.

Nexus5 has excellent hardware specification's and is cheaper compared to
competitors. As the phone runs stalk android updates will be available
earlier than other phones. KitKat is very accessible and TalkBack works
well. There is news that update for TalkBack will soon be available and
this will only enhance the accessibility. The best feature of this phone
is when you put it in speaker mode and access other applications the person
on the other side will not hear what TalkBack is reading but you will hear
the same loud and clear

Hangouts is anew feature in KitKat wherein all messages are stored but I do
not like it and use third party app for SMS and WhatsApp for social media.

The inbuilt phone and gmail app are accessible.

There is no reduction in ringing volume when caller name is read out which
at times makes it difficult to hear caller details.

Coming to the apps times of india has the best accessibility among news
paper apps and is excellent to use. Even Hindu business standard business
line midday Deccan herald are accessible.

With regard to travel trip advisor is very much accessible. Make my trip is
accessible but for minor issues while making payment.

The hdfc bank app is accessible.

For friends interested in cricket ndtv cricket and cricbuz are very much
accessible.

Facebook and WhatsApp are very easy to use in KitKat.

although I have lots of apps and options still to be explored I am very
happywith my nexus 5.

Regards

Pavan

according to me you must be running the talks 5.31 version which is

Contact info is not yet accessible for C5. Moreover, it does not read status
messages completely.

Subject: Re: [Mobile.AI] Nokia E5 and WhatsApp

Most of what Zujar has mentioned works after this latest talks upgrade
except the contact info option on my phone. it shows up on whim only.
i've tried various things to make certain it shows up each time, but
to no avail. any ideas there?
@Divyanshu, i do have m guard installed and have seen the disabling
option, but since i use whatsapp almost through the day in bits and
pieces i just let it be. guess battery drain is a price to pay to
stay in touch!:)

@ Zujar. Thank you for taking time to explain the various new
features. Will try out the option you suggested to read lengthy chat
messages.
@ Payal. i've figured out a bit lengthy way to turn off the packet
data and thus stop the consumption on the battery. its not perfect but
works like a charm in a pinch. you will need to install an app called
M guard which is free from nokia store. run a memory check post
installation, and disable whatsap from starting automatically. now if
you want whatsap to stay completely off and not use packet data, just
exit it and reboot your phone. whatsapp is now not enabled and thus
ensures your packet data stayhs off. if only i could figure out how to
do this without re booting my phone ..
thanks

I second Hozefa though do not have a C5 handset but N79. A couple of
options
that have become accessible include:

* Contact Info

* Names of group members in Group Info

* Selected contact name on Add Member screen of Group Info

* Status options

* About screen

Also it's installation program is completely accessible now. However,
there's still room for improvement in the following areas:

* Smilies

* Contact name in long group chats

* Line-wise scroll in chat window

Here's a lengthy workaround for reading long chats (group as well as
individual):

* Open the chat window.

* Select Options (using [key1]) and then Chat History Send.

* Press [key2] when it presents various sending options.

* A text file is created which can be found underMemory
Card\WAExport folder using the File Manager program on your phone.

* Press the [Send} or green key, it lists various sending
options.

* Select via Message which is generally the first option, the
file
content appear in the body of a new text/multimedia message (depending on
content) with a blank To box.

* The chat can be read now like a SMS.

* This message can be closed using [key2], while closing the
message
you can decide whether to discard it or save as a draft under your
phone's
Messaging program.

If someone knows of a better option then kindly suggest. I'm not willing
to
shell out on IOS/Android for now (lol).

Best Regards,

Zujar..

You need to update your Talks version to the latest. The current version
is
5.50.3. I am using the current version of Whats App without any
difficulty
in Nokia C5.

There is no other version of whatsapp that can be used but the one you

might have. in any case it forces you to upgrade everytime there is an

upgrade available. i have tried endlessly to be able to get better

information on a group chat, to no avail.

In fact there is a strange thing happening when i look at contact info

of any contact. once in a way it flashes all the details a contact

might have put up like status, last seen and so on. but, this is not a

regular occurance. i am in fact looking for a solution to this as
