just by rooting you cant upgrade any device.
u need to flash custem roms like cyanogen mod 13 or 12 and so on.

hi amit! you can sea whatsap messages under chat tab by clicking whatsap
icon on the home screen.  if notification is enabled fr whatsap, you will
get alert as soon as a whatsap message is received.  you can reply to the
sender either from the notification or by going to the whatsapp/chats.
