[Mobile.AI] Android 7.1.2 will likely be released April 3

2017-03-14 Thread anil kumar
No joke — Android 7.1.2 may hit just after April Fools' Day. At the end of
January, Google released a beta version of Android 7.1.2 for a handful of
Nexus devices, along with its new Pixel phones. The company said that it
was "an incremental maintenance release focused on refinements," including
"bug fixes and optimizations, along with a small number of enhancements for
carriers and users." It's been 6 weeks since that fateful day, and despite
two new security updates for those on the regular track, users on 7.1.2
beta haven't heard much news. That's likely because, as VP of Android Dave
Burke pointed out in the initial blog post, the company is readying a
public release for "a couple of months" after its initial unveiling, which
works out to be the end of March or beginning of April. The largest carrier
in Canada is set to release a big Pixel update on April 3. That timeline is
now reinforced by the fact that Rogers, the largest carrier in Canada, is
calling for its Pixels to receive an update to enable VoLTE, along with the
latest requisite security updates, on April 3. On its own, that wouldn't be
a giveaway for a new wider Android release, but Rogers has been testing
VoLTE service on its Pixels with the Android 7.1.2 beta; the latest Android
7.1.1 release, with a March 5 security patch, does not enable Voice Over
LTE, despite there being a Rogers-only version. While this is by no means a
certainly, it makes sense that Google would release Android 7.1.2 at the
beginning of the month, on the day usually reserved for security bulletins
and new factory images. And while the new version itself is not
particularly exciting, we know that one group of users — Pixel owners on
Rogers — will at the very least be able to make crisper-sounding phone
calls come April 3.

[Mobile.AI] App lets visually impaired in India hear books in their native language

2016-08-04 Thread anil kumar
For the millions upon millions of visually impaired people in India, it can
be difficult getting hold of the audiobook they want in the language they
need it in. A project from Carnegie Mellon University and partners aims to
fix that with a free, easily extensible Android app that can be quickly
trained to read texts aloud in local languages.

The app, Hear2Read, had its first release today, supporting Tamil, with
Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, and other languages and dialects coming over the
course of the year. A few hours of talking from a native speaker is the raw
data, which is then fed into a machine learning system.

“Each language is different and historically TTS systems have been done one
at a time. We looked at commonalities of Indian languages and developed
tools to apply the same technology to multiple languages,” said Suresh
Bazaj, founder of the project, in a CMU blog post.

The resulting language database is small enough that it can be stored on
the phone, meaning no internet connection is needed to translate texts.
It'll run on low-end phones, as well, an important factor in a country
where budget devices and spotty connectivity are the rule. (You'll need
Android 4.1 or higher, though.)

The Hear2Read software also integrates with Android's built-in
accessibility functions, letting browsers, email apps, and others integrate
text to speech.

More info on Hear2Read, the app, and the partners that helped make it
possible can be found at the company's website.

don't know how accessible the built-in apps would be, you might have
to install additional apps for routine functions. From that point of
view, the Motorola MotoG 2014 would be a good buy. It is not as good
as Xiaomi in terms of hardware specifications, but it runs a version
of Android that is almost stock and does get regular Android updates.
In that context, if you can hold off for a couple of months, the

 Dear Android experts,

My talkback does not start upon restarting the phone most of the
times. But it does sometimes. Please note, I have checked the option
to restart the talkback on restart.

FYI, I am using Android 4.2.2 on Intext Acqua qwerty phone.

Another problem is that my contacts file is not geting searched when I
try to import contacts from that CSV file from the SD card using
 options from People app.

Peripherally, do suggest other useful apps for mail etc.

Is M-indicator really accessible on android with talkback?

My first query is very serious and urgent as without talkback I can't
use my phone. as solution is not given on google for such queer
 problem please guide.

 Thank you

you can read line by line, word by word and character by character through this.
method
swipe up and right very gently, now waite for second,
now touch the central point of your screan and explore the option
roundly, do not lift your finger until you select any of them
suppose, you want to read line by line, so just lift your finger on
the line gramularity
now you can read line by line, for this, swipe right or swipe down
hope, I've cleared

[Mobile.AI] 'Dendroid' virus targeting Android phones in India

2014-03-26 Thread anil kumar
NEW DELHI: Indian cybersecurity sleuths have alerted users of Android
smartphone about the malicious activities of a tricky virus called
'Dendroid' whose infection could completely compromise their
personal phone device.

The virus of the deadly 'Trojan' family, once activated, could change
the command and control server of a user's personal Android phone and
intercept private SMSes coming in or going out.

It has been reported that a malicious toolkit called Dendroid is
being used to create trojanised applications that infects
Android-based smartphones. The malware is created by modifying the
required permissions by any clean APK (Android Application Package)
with Dendroid RAT functionality that allows detailed management of the
infected devices, the Computer Emergency Response Team of India
(CERT-In) said in its latest advisory to Android phone users in the
country.

The CERT-In is the nodal agency to combat hacking, phishing and to
fortify security-related defences of the Indian Internet domain.

Security experts say the virus is street-smart because it has a
striking resemblance to the name Android.

The agency said upon installation of this malicious application, a
remote attacker could completely compromise the affected
Android-based smartphone and could control it remotely.

The virus can perform a number of malicious activities. It can
change the command and control server, delete call logs, open web
pages, dial any number, record calls and audio, SMS interception,
upload images and video to remote location and open an application,
the advisory said, categorising the virus as an attack toolkit.

It said the malware infected is controlled by the attacker through
Dendroid Toolkit. Dendroid is a HTTP RAT, having a sophisticated PHP
administration panel and an application APK binder package.

The agency has suggested some countermeasures to thwart the
ill-attempts of the latest virus including keeping a check on the
overall usage and any unsatisfactory rise in the user's mobile phone
bill.

Do not download and install applications from untrusted sources,
install applications downloaded from reputed application market only,
run a full system scan on device with mobile security solution or
mobile antivirus solution, check for the permissions required by an
application before installing,.

Exercise caution while visiting trusted/untrusted sites for clicking
links, install Android updates and patches as and when available from
Android device vendors, users are advised to use device encryption or
encrypting external SD card feature available with most of the Android
OS, the agency said.

Android phone users, the CERT-In said, are also advised to keep an
eye on data usage (application-wise usage also) and unusual increase
in mobile bills and keep an eye on device battery usage
(application-wise usage also).

[Mobile.AI] Moto G vs top three rivals, an overview

2014-02-08 Thread anil kumar
an overview on moto G, Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro and micromax
Canvas Turbo Mini
it might be helpful for those who are planning to buy new mobile

Motorola's much awaited 'value for money' Android smartphone, Moto G,
is finally in Indian market and has got a warm welcome with the
initial stock of the 16GB storage variant selling out in less than an
hour.

What makes the phone tick is the right mix of form, hardware
specifications and pricing in addition to the fact that it comes from
a global brand.

Motorola has chosen to sell the phone exclusively with just one online
retailer, in a market which still lags behind when it comes to
internet penetration. It's not certain if the company wants to reach
out to the masses and play the volume game. However, the Moto G still
poses a threat to some best selling mid-range phones available in the
Indian market.

We try to find out how the new entrant stacks up against the Nokia
Lumia 720, the Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro and the newly -launched
Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini.

Form Factor

The four smartphones come in candybar form factor with rounded corners
barring the Lumia 720 which has a more rectangular shape, albeit
rounded side edges.

The Moto G is a little thick at 11.6mm, while the Lumia 720 and
Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro are thinner at 9.65 and 9mm,
respectively. The Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini is the slimmest at just
7.8mm. The Moto G is less wide compared to the Grand Quattro and the
Lumia 720.

In terms of weight, the Moto G is a bit heavy at 140 gram, while the
Lumia 720 weighs 128 gram, and the Galaxy Grand Quattro is the
heaviest at 143.9 gram. The Canvas Turbo Mini's exact weight is not
known but it feels considerably lighter.

Moto G's removable back panel is made of plastic and you can swap the
default black one with colourful options. It also comes with a
water-resistant nano layer to protect it from minor splashes. The
Lumia 720, on the other hand, is made of high quality polycarbonate
and follows a unibody design similar to the Nokia Lumia 920. The
Galaxy Grand Quattro comes with a removable plastic back. The Canvas
Turbo Mini comes with a partial metal back cover offering a premium
feel, with the top slot being removable, hiding the second sim-card
slot and the microSD card slot.

Overall, the Moto G is not the most compact or light weight phone
around but it looks good thanks to its curved edges and colourful back
panes. We also like the Canvas Turbo Mini's premium feel and light
weight, sleek profile.

Display

Moto G features an edge to edge 4.5-inch IPS LCD display with a
resolution of 720 x 1280p and pixel density of 329ppi. The Micromax
Canvas Turbo Mini, on the other hand, sports a 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen
with the same screen resolution.

The Lumia 720's ClearBlack IPS LCD display is smaller at 4.3-inch with
a resolution of 480 x 800p. The Galaxy Grand Quattro features a
4.7-inch display, also with a 480 x 800p resolution.

Clearly, the Moto G and the Canvas Turbo Mini offer better displays,
compared to the other two.

Hardware

Moto G is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400
processor and 1GB RAM offering better performance compared to its
peers in the same price segment.

Lumia 720 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor
and although Windows Phone is not a resource-hungry OS, the phone's
512MB RAM is a limiting factor since graphics intensive games need 1GB
RAM to run.

Galaxy Grand Quattro is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 quad-core
processor and 1GB RAM, while the Canvas Turbo Mini is powered by a
1.3GHz MediaTek processor and 1GB RAM.

Barring the Moto G, the other phones come with a microSD card slot
allowing you to expand the internal storage. With Moto G, you'll need
to choose if you'd want the 8Gb storage variant or the 16GB one.

Camera

Moto G sports a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3MP
front-facing camera. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro also comes with
a 5MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera.

The Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini features an 8MP rear camera but the
cameras of other phones too don't and a 5MP front-facing one.

We weren't very impressed with the Moto G's camera in our initial use,
inspire much confidence. We're still in the process of testing the
Moto G's and Canvas Turbo Mini's camera performance.

Interestingly, this is where the Lumia 720 with its 6.7MP camera
leaves others behind. It takes better photos even in low-light
conditions. It comes with a 1.3MP secondary front-facing camera.

Software

One of the major USPs of the Moto G is that it runs an almost stock
version of Android with no cosmetic skinning and on screen navigation
keys.

Moto G's dual-sim version runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, out of the box;
however, it's all set to receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update. After
the update, the Moto G will perhaps be the only version in its price
segment to feature the latest version of the OS. It's also expected to
receive timely OS updates from Google,

Re: [Mobile.AI] I want buy good android phone!

2014-01-19 Thread anil kumar
here are some Main advantages and disadvantages of Motorola Moto G

Motorola Moto G review

Key features
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE; quad-band UMTS/HSPA support
4.5 16M-color 720p IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 326ppi pixel
density; Gorilla Glass 3
Android OS v4.3 Jelly Bean with Android 4.4 update reportedly coming
as soon as January 2014
Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 CPU;
Adreno 305 GPU
5 MP autofocus camera with LED flash
720p video recording @ 30fps with HDR, continuous autofocus and stereo sound
1.3 MP front-facing camera
Wi-Fi b/g/n; Wi-Fi Hotspot
GPS with A-GPS; GLONASS
8/16GB of built-in storage; 1GB of RAM
microUSB port with USB host
Bluetooth v4.0 LE
Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
Ambient light; accelerometer; proximity sensors
Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic
50GB of free Google Drive storage
2,070 mAh battery
Excellent speaker loudness

Main disadvantages
•Limited non-expandable storage
•Non user-removable battery
•Questionable camera image quality, limited camera settings

It's abundantly clear that the Motorola Moto G ticks way more boxes
than a smartphone of its standing is expected to. Some might argue
that it's a luxurious strategy that can only be employed because
Google will make profit off software services and not the actual
hardware. Well, from a user's perspective (and that's the only one we
care about) this point is irrelevant as all that matters is what you
are getting for your money. At least on paper, the Moto G is plenty of
smartphone for the price.

Some corners needed to be cut of course, but since Motorola could
afford to give up immediate profits, the hardware didn't take as bad
of a hit as it normally would have. We get a base-level chipset of
course, but it's of the latest Qualcomm lineup and it should do just
fine paired with a 720p screen. And since it requires less power and
there's a smaller screen here, Motorola might easily get away with the
smaller battery. The unmatched body customization options of Moto X
are gone too, but the (very cheaply) replaceable back covers still let
you add your personal touch to the smartphone. A well rounded package
indeed.

The Motorola Moto G at ours

Or is it? You see, being able to sell subsidized hardware might sound
like a manufacturer's dream, but it's not all roses. Because when you
mostly rely on the software to bring in the profits, you have to make
sure your services are attractive. So the microSD card slot got the
axe in hope that you'll fall back to cloud storage for most of your
multimedia needs. The default skinned Android UI (or launcher, as it's
technically called) also isn't the most functional around, so you
might have to add a feature or two via third party apps.

It's always going to be a matter of trade-offs in this price segment
of the market and we now set out to find out if Motorola did the right
ones.

there are 11 pages for this review so go ahead with this URL

I think you should go for a phone with the latest available operating
system. In India, I am not sure we have a lot of choice with regard to
Android 4.4 or 4.3 OS phones in the price range you are looking for,
so you have to settle for a 4.2 OS phone. Indian companies like
Micromax and Xolo have some good options in that range with pretty
good specifications, global brands like Samsung and Sony also have
options, but the specifications won't be as great in that price range.
I am using Xolo Q700 and I've found it to be pretty good so far. But
none of the Indian companies have so far provided regular OS updates
to their mid-range smartphones. Google's Motorola Moto G is expected
to hit the Indian market soon. It is a phone with good specifications
at a decent price range, and as Motorola is now owned by Google, you
can expect OS updates as well, , perhaps you should just wait a little
bit for it to arrive in India before taking a final call.
 Best,

Hi
For uninstalling any application or software, go to settingapps,
click on to desire apps, here you can check the related details and
uninstall the item from option

While dialing, you have to click once the desire medium, after
clicking just below there will two choices always and just once, click
again any of them, you have done

For installing talk back go to play store search for application, you
will surely find talk back just below the top with notice (installed),
if talk back 3.5.0 is already installed, otherwise you can download
from there, but at first check the talk back version from settingapps

[Mobile.AI] Low-cost Moto G smartphone’s specs, image leaked

2013-11-02 Thread anil kumar
NEW DELHI: Google-owned smartphone maker Motorola impressed the
technology world with its Moto X smartphone in August, but
disappointed many when it was announced that it will only sell in the
US market. However, the company is preparing a low-cost version of the
device aimed at emerging markets.

Technology website GSMArena has leaked an image of the upcoming
smartphone, named Moto G. The image is of a promotion card for the
handset, detailing key hardware specifications and operating system
version.

Moto G will have a 4.5-inch edge-to-edge display with 720p resolution
and 329p pixel density and will be powered by Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)
out of the box. Motorola is likely to update the smartphone at least
to Android 4.4 (KitKat), as it announced that all models under its new
range will be upgraded to next version of the OS at least once.

The image also reveals that Moto G will run on a 1.2GHz quad-core
Qualcomm processor and come with 8GB internal storage and a
water-repellent coating. The phone will sport a 5MP rear camera and
1.2MP front unit and will be powered by a 1,950mAh battery.
Earlier rumours said that this handset will have interchangeable back
covers (just like Moto X) and dual-sim functionality.

The website, citing sources, says that Motorola will price the
handset at 134.95 pounds, without contract. It is likely to hit the
market in time for the US holiday season.

Earlier, Motorola's official website showed a listing for the
unannounced Moto G smartphone, though it was taken down soon. This led
to speculations that the company will soon launch its low-cost
smartphone. Twitter user EVLeaks has also leaked an image of the Moto
G recently.

[Mobile.AI] Quick fixes to Android’s 6 common problems

2013-10-30 Thread anil kumar
Given the open nature of Android, users tend to experiment, slowing
down the device after some time. Here are six tips to get your Android
device back in tip-top shape without too much fuss.

Free up storage space

Over time, your device’s internal storage gets occupied by cache
files, apps and files leftover when you remove apps. One of the
simplest ways to get this storage space back is by moving apps to the
microSD card. We recommend the free AppMgr III app as it supports
batch moving of apps from internal storage to microSD card and vice
versa.

Also, camera images eat up lot of storage, so move your existing
images to the memory card. In camera settings opt to save images on
the memory card to save internal storage space.

Free up RAM

All running apps take up some amount of RAM. You don’t need this step
if your device has 2GB or more of RAM, but with 1GB or less — you will
notice slowdowns if you install too many apps. Some apps (system apps
for instance) need to stay on for the device to work, others don’t.

Clean Master (by KS Mobile) is a great app that can keep your Android
device in peak condition. Not only does it free up device RAM, it can
also clean up internal memory, help with app uninstalls and remove
temporary files. A one-click ‘boost’ button widget is automatically
added to your home screen.

Boost the performance

After a few months, most Android users notice a drop in performance.
It may become slower to navigate, take longer to open apps while games
and video playback shows random frame drops. To regain lost
performance, there are a number of things you can do. Remove any
unwanted apps and widgets as they eat up your resources by running in
the background. You can also stop all the fancy menu animation effects
(usually in Settings Developer options Window and Transition
Animations).

You can also use a task killer such as Super Task Killer Free. It
kills running tasks after a set period of time or via the desktop
idget to speed up phone performance. Using launchers like Nova, Nemus
or Lightning will also make your device a lot faster. These launchers
consume fewer resources and are highly customisable to suit a user’s
requirements. You can even use the free AVG Antivirus app to boost
performance. It has a built-in task killer, battery optimiser and a
data usage monitor.

Remove Bloatware

Bloatware is the collective term given to pre-installed apps on your
device that you never asked for (and you may never use).
Unfortunately, these apps remain on the device even if you perform a
factory data reset. This may include apps from the device manufacturer
itself, third-party (sponsored) apps or even Google apps that you
don’t use. You can’t uninstall them, but one simple method to make
sure that these apps don’t bother you is to disable them.

Head to the application manager in Settings, click on all and click on
the apps you want to disable. The only available option to completely
remove them is to root the device and use an app like Titanium Backup.
Even flashing a custom ROM to replace the original Android OS will
remove all bloatware. However, rooting and custom ROMs will void
warranty.

Fix random crashes/freezing

There are a number of ways your Android device can get infected by
malicious apps that slowdown your device and lead to random apps
crashes. Direct download of apk files from websites /forums and at
times fake apps from the Play Store itself (remember the fake BBM apps
a few weeks back?) can corrupt your device. Install the free Clueful
app and run it to identify the risk levels of apps installed on your
device.

The app classifies apps according to high, moderate or low risk — you
can uninstall the high-risk apps immediately to get rid of any
conflicts the app is causing. The mobile Security and Antivirus app by
Avast comes with a Privacy advisor along with a powerful virus
/malware scanner. It identifies and provides detailed information
about apps installed on your device to help identify a reason for
crashes.

Improve battery life

It’s unfortunate that battery technology has simply not kept pace with
hardware. Given limitations of weight and size, most manufacturers use
batteries that should last most users a day (roughly 10 to 12 hours of
use). You may find that over time, battery life does decrease --
partly because of normal battery wear tear and partly because of
your usage.

An app called Battery Doctor (by KS Mobile) has enough options to
satisfy both casual and power users. You can better manage remaining
battery life using the included widgets. Advanced users can configure
various battery saver modes and schedule functions to save more power.
If this doesn’t work for you, try Easy Battery Saver (by 2Easy Team).

[Mobile.AI] 10 new features of Android KitKat

2013-10-16 Thread anil kumar
The launch of Android 4.4 is just around the corner, with rumours
hinting at October 31 launch for the next version of Google OS. But
you don’t have to wait that long to know what new features Google is
bringing in the next version of its new mobile OS name KitKat.

Several leaked images and videos have given clear details about the
upcoming Android OS. Here are 10 new features of Android KitKat.

SMS integration in Hangouts

One of the biggest changes in Android KitKat will be the integration
of SMS and MMS into Google Hangouts app, which recently replaced
Google Talk. The new app update will indicate whether any particular
message has been sent as a SMS, MMS or instant message (online
chat).10 new features of Android KitKat

Notification and Navigation Bars

The Notification Bar, which have remained solid black in colour till
now, will be transparent and icons like battery, signal strength etc
will be white in Android 4.4. Same is the case with Navigation Bar,
where the Home, Back and App Switcher software keys are located.10 new
features of Android KitKat

Always listening

The report says that Google Now will have the 'always-on'
functionality of Moto X in Android 4.4 and may accept commands in
several languages, not just English.10 new features of Android KitKat

Camera icon on lock screen

With Android 4.2, Google made it possible for users to access the
Camera app from the locked screen by swiping to the right. While that
option remains in Android 4.4, the new OS also features a Camera icon
on the lower right corner for easy access, similar to iOS 7.10 new
features of Android KitKat

Design tweaks

The updated operating system will also bring a flatter look to the
icons of apps like YouTube, Settings, Google Settings, Google and
Voice Search and Settings. There are also a few tweaks to the font and
designs in Downloads, Timer, Stopwatch and Clock apps. 10 new features
of Android KitKat

QuickOffice integration

Android KitKat is expected to come preloaded with QuickOffice, the
productivity app that Google purchased recently. The company has
already made it free for Android and iOS platforms.10 new features of
Android KitKat

Smoother UI

It also states that Android 4.4 is much lighter and faster than
Android 4.3 and older versions. This is in line with rumours that the
next version of Google’s mobile OS will be optimized for low-end
phones.10 new features of Android KitKat

Quick-start apps halved in number

The quick-start applications have been limited to just two in Android
KitKat; previously, users could add up to four apps of their choice or
create folders for more apps to access commonly used apps from any
Home Screen.10 new features of Android KitKat

Menu wallpaper

In the app menu, the background -- which used to be black in colour in
previous Android version -- now has the look of the Home Screen
wallpaper.10 new features of Android KitKat

Cloud Printing

In Android 4.4, users will be able to send print commands over the web
via Cloud Print, a service that was launched in June this year. It
will allow them to send commands to print documents from their
tablets, smartphones and laptops to connected printers.

[Mobile.AI] Android 4.4 KitKat images surface online

2013-09-23 Thread anil kumar
Times of India
TOI Tech | Sep 23, 2013, 03.07 PM IST

NEW DELHI: Many smartphone users are eagerly awaiting the next version
of Google's Android OS officially called KitKat. Since the company
announced Android 4.4 KitKat, there have been speculations on the
features and the UI that the new OS will bring in. Now 9to5Google has
leaked images which it claims provide first look of the new OS.

As per 9to5Google, the alleged screenshots provided by a user show a
revamped phone dialer and messaging apps on KitKat. The phone dialler
appears to sport a lighter colour scheme in comparison to the dark one
in Jelly Bean. There is also a new keyboard design and the status bar
too seems to have lighter colour scheme for the icons, which seems to
be varying depending on the application that is in use that time.

The messaging app too seems to have undergone a change with the icon
on the main menu resembling a Google+ icon. The main app has seen its
controls get shifted to the top right instead of the bottom setup that
is there in the current Android version.

Tech junkies are speculating that there will be significant changes in
the 4.4 version. However, the alleged screenshots don't show any
functionality changes.

Android 4.4 Kitkat is expected to be released in October along with
Nexus 5. Rumours also suggest that the updated version of Nexus 10 too
would sport the new OS.

Nokia tested Android on Lumia phones: Report

NEW DELHI: Nokia could have switched loyalty to Google's Android
operating system after 2014, according to a blog on New York Times.
According to Nick Wingfield's blog on NYT's Bits Blog, Before
Microsoft reached a deal to buy Nokia's phone business, there was a
possibility that Nokia could have switched its smartphones to Google's
Android operating system sometime after late 2014.

A Nokia team reportedly began testing Android OS on the company's
Lumia handsets long before the company signed the dotted line on
acquisition by Microsoft of its mobile business. The blog suggests
that these efforts were underway sometime between 2012 and early 2013.
The blog quotes two people briefed on the plan. The testing of Android
OS on Lumia phones is believed to be the company's plan B, to
 negotiate better with partners.

According to the blog, Nokia using Android OS wasn't a part of
Microsoft's acquisition discussions with the company, however,
Microsoft executives were aware of the existence of the project.
Analysts believe that it is likely the plan impacted Microsoft's
 decision to acquire Nokia.

According to another report in The Verge, Nokia had plans of unveiling
an Android-powered Asha device in 2014.

Nokia and Microsoft made the deal to use Windows Phone OS in 2011 and
the former had the option to exit the partnership at the end of 2014.
Nokia has long been criticised for choosing Windows Phone over
Android, which many believe led to the slump in its global market
 share.

Both Nokia and Microsoft refused a comment on the blog.

[Mobile.AI] Google says next version of Android will be called KitKat: The Times of India

2013-09-03 Thread anil kumar
Google says next version of Android will be called KitKat

NEW DELHI: Sundar Pichai, head of Android division at Google, on
Tuesday revealed on Twitter that the next version of the company's
mobile operating system (OS) will be called Android KitKat.

We now have over 1 billion Android activations and hope this guy in
front of the building keeps that momentum going, Pichai tweeted as
well as posted an image of a giant Android mascot built like KitKat
chocolate.

Earlier, there were rumours that the next version of the OS would be
called Android Key Lime Pie.

Since Android 1.5, Google has named each version of the OS after a
sweet. Android 1.5 was Cupcake. Android 1.6 was Donut. Android 2.0 was
Eclair. Android 2.2 was Froyo. Android 2.3 was Gingerbread. Android
3.0 was Honeycomb. Android 4.0 was Ice Cream Sandwich. And Android
4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 have been called Jelly Bean.

Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion
smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet,
each Android version is named after a dessert... As everybody finds it
difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next
version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats,
Kitkat, Google said.

The KitKat will be Android 4.4. So far there is no word on when Google
will release this OS but it is likely to debut in the market with the
new Nexus phone in the coming months.

Google announced the new version of Android just minutes after Apple
sent out invites for an event on September 10 where it is likely to
launch the next version of iPhone.

For KitKat name Google has tied up with Nestle, which makes KitKat chocolates.

We couldn't imagine a better name for our Android K release than the
tasty chocolate that's been a favourite among the team since the early
days of Android, said Marc Vanlerberghe, director of Android
marketing.

Nestle said that to mark the release of Android KitKat, more than 50
million specially branded KitKat bars will be available in 19
countries including Australia, Brazil, Germany, India, Japan, Dubai,
Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The packs will lead consumers to the website www.android.com/kitkat
where they will have the opportunity to win prizes including a limited
number of Google Nexus 7 tablets, and credits to spend in Google Play.

A small number of Android robot-shaped KitKat bars will be offered as
prizes in selected markets.

[Mobile.AI] New Android malware affecting up to 25, 000 devices: Report!

2013-08-10 Thread anil kumar
New Android malware affecting up to 25,000 devices: Report
Dr Web said it has come across malware on Google Play, which is the
platform for apps used on Android OS.

NEW DELHI: Security software developer Dr Web on Friday said it has
come across malware on Google Play, which is the internet search
giant's platform for apps used on Android operating system.

The malware deplete subscriber's accounts by sending short messages to
premium numbers.

The Russia-based firm said about 11,000 to 25,000 devices are infected
by these malicious programmes.

Dr Web has discovered several malicious programmes on Google Play
that install Android.SmsSend Trojans on mobile devices. The Trojans
send short messages to premium numbers and deplete subscriber accounts
, it said in a release. Google was promptly notified about the
incident, it added.

The programmes, discovered by Dr Web's analysts, belong to the
Vietnamese developer AppStoreJsc. They are disguised as audio players
and a video player that displays adult content. The total number of
installations of these three programmes ranges between 11,000 and
25,000, it said.

Although, these applications appear harmless, they have an extra APK
file that contains an Android.Sms-Send Trojan, Dr Web said.

While running these applications , dubbed Android .MulDrop,
Android.MulDrop .1 and Android.MulDrop.2 by Dr Web, they can prompt
the user to download the content they need, but their consent
initiates the installation of another application rather than the
downloading of files, it added.
