I assume this increases the ref count which assures that the object won't get collected until after the native code returns. Is that right? Also, to pass the person struct IntPtr from C# to C, which is recommended; pass it as a parameter, or use mono_runtime_invoke to pull it out of the property? I would assume that passing it as a parameter is quicker since it saves a function call. Thanks for your help, it's quite an eye opener. Hey Patrick, Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Could you please file a bug ( http://bugzilla.ximian.com/ ) and make sure to include step by step instructions (the more explicit the better). Please make sure that I can independently complete the step by step instructions (don't make it depend on some URL, or some program that you are the only one that can get to). The best way to do this is to attach a small piece of code that recreates the problem to the bug report. Once it's filed, I'll reproduce the problem and we'll see if we can get this fixed for 1.2.5. Re: [Mono-dev] Mono version numbering
Ernesto wrote: Euan MacInnes wrote: I would suggest that, rather than one version, Mono should split up it's packages differently. I have to agree. If we are talking about a on size fits all Mono distribution, no version number can be too descriptive. Exactly, so maybe we eliminate the confusion entirely and use a version number that has nothing to do with .Net. It seems to me that the whole problem that we are having is that we keep trying to imply our status with our version number, and people keep inferring wrong (as with Miguel's example of the guy asking when asp.net 2.0 would be done). Why don't we stop trying to imply our status through our version number? If we had a completely different numbering scheme, this wouldn't happen. For instance, we could do something like Ubuntu where we take the Year.Month.0 of the release. So, 1.2.6 would most likely be 7.11.0. 7.11.0 doesn't make any sense to a .Net person. Therefore they will have to go read the release notes and other documentation to find out exactly what is in this version. Bug fix only releases could be 7.11.1, .2, etc. The other nice thing about this is since Miguel started working on Mono in 2000, it would be a close approximation of how many years have been put into the release (and how mature the project is). If the version is going to imply anything, it should imply the maturity. :) Even if we decided to have individual version for each component, we should still have a version number that encompasses the whole. I talked with the guy who's overseeing this, and he said that they hope to have all of their security audits and whatnot done in the next few months. I've been trying to avoid having to create an account, and I can understand requiring it for submitting new bugs, but for looking at existing public bugs and testrun results, that simply doesn't make any sense and seem to me to deter new contributors. Actually, all of the non-security related Mono bugs can be seen without having to login. Mono bugs are completely open to the public by default. When filing a new bug, you actually have to manually change the bug to internal. I agree that the results should be readily available, this test setup has just been started, so allow for some teething problems:) Exactly! :) Once the current release work is completed I'd also like the testopia features to be available to contributors, so that testing for architectures and systems we don't have access to (or we don't have testing bandwith for) can be done by contributors and collected in the same place as the test runs we do in house. The Mono QA team would like this very much. We understand just how much the OSS community helps us out, and we'd love for Testopia to be a coordination point for this work. [Mono-dev] Slow Bugzilla Logins...
Hey Guys, Awhile ago I complained (again) to the bugzilla / ichain teams about the slowness of logging into Bugzilla. They said that they needed a WireShark log of a slow login session in order to trouble shoot what was going on. Unfortunately since it's sporadic, I haven't been able to capture one yet. If any of you happen to capture one, I'll be more than happy to forward it on to them. In the mean time, they gave me a suggestion that has seemed to help. They suggested that I turn off TLS 1.0 support in FireFox. In FireFox on Linux you can do this by going to Edit / Preferences / Advanced / Encryption and unchecking the checkbox Use TLS 1.0. Since I made this change, I haven't seen any long pauses while logging into Novell Bugzilla. [Mono-dev] Build / Release team meeting with Miguel notes...
Hey Guys, We had a Build / Release team meeting with Miguel today, and he asked me to send out the notes. Meeting Notes: * We don't want to stop the build bots during releases. - For Mono 2.0, we changed our releases to being built in the openSUSE build service, so this fixed the majority of the reasons we were stopping the build bots. For the last week, Andrew has been working on the last few issues, and is now confident that for Mono 2.2, we won't need to stop the build bots. * Create a lane for building Olive - This has already been done, it's just that the web page isn't clear. The Olive builds are on the bottom of the page under the no-arch builds. * We need to start building IronPython ourselves as the community edition isn't being updated on a regular basis. * Make the Mono windows installer a smaller download - Split gtk# out into it's own component - Strip out the static libraries (the .a's) - Change the gtk# installer to install to both the MS and Mono GACs * Change the Mono windows installer over to Wix so that it is an MSI * Make the Mono OSX installer a smaller download - Make 2 packages 1. Mono runtime / gtk# 2. SDK (all of the static libs, MonoDevelop and everything else not in the Mono runtime) * Publish ia64 builds for SLES * Fix the Mono daily builds Thomas ___ Mono-devel-list mailing list Mono-devel-list@lists.ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/mono-devel-list

[Mono-dev] 2 Mono releases a year...
Hey Guys, The build and test team is struggling to keep up with all of our obligations (and our task lists just keep growing). The only way I can see being able to get ahead is to reduce the number of Mono releases we do a year. Right now we've been trying to do 4 releases a year (it looks like it's going to be closer to 3 in the short term). I propose that we start doing only 2 Mono releases a year. This will allow the build and test team a lot more time in between releases to keep up with the tasks we've been asked to do. So, the question is, if we start doing 2 releases a year, what are the negative affects of this? Since the major distros and gnome only have 2 releases a year also, I would think the impact would be fairly minimal. Am I wrong?
