I'm sure we have quite a few silent users out there :-)... Sounds cool.
I can then release men-browse and MAS in time for the new year perhaps?
:-)

2012-11-30 Thread Hugo Cornelis
Hi,

Confirming that Monotone is still being used by the Genesis (
www.genesis-sim.org) and the Neurospaces projects (www.neurospaces.org).

We added a layer on top of Monotone to manage and control sharing of
multiple repositories for different projects.

I personally track / manage a total of 5 projects and a total of 23
repositories (actually more if I would count the suspended ones).

These repositories range from ~ 300KB to ~ 300MB, have many many revisions
and branches. As far as I can tell they are geographically dispersed
across three continents.

We are actually very happy with the simple interface provided by Monotone
which facilitated the development of the management layer on top of
Monotone.

One thing that would help us regarding security is the implementation of
Montone's policy branches.

Yes but several problems on the website may confuse the newcomer about
the dynamic of the project, even if I think a mature project as
Monotone does not always need to be very dynamic.
- http://buildbot.monotone.ca/ is down for ages
- http://wiki.monotone.ca/recentchanges/ shows that nothing changed on
  the wiki this year
- the same remark applies to http://www.monotone.ca/
- http://frappr.com/monotone link is dead

Don't get me wrong, these are not criticism and I don't blame anyone.
As I told on IRC, for the moment, Monotone needs more
visibility/advocacy than technical points.

Some of the documentation I refer to below is out of date, but still highly
readable.

The management layer on top of Monotone is called the Developer Package of
the Neurospaces software tool chain.

http://www.genesis-sim.org/userdocs/developer-package/developer-package.html

Documentation of some of the components we manage with this system,
including the Developer Package, can be found here:

http://www.genesis-sim.org/userdocs/genesis-components/genesis-components.html

Developers of our software, the Genesis-3 simulation system, don't use
Monotone directly, but use the Developer Package to install our software.

For instance:

http://www.genesis-sim.org/userdocs/installation-ubuntu-precise/installation-ubuntu-precise.html

frederic.praca Well nagios could do the job but that's a little overkill.
frederic.praca Why don't you check the status by getting the webpage like this

 Hi all!
Hi.. Again ;)

The question regarding a new monotone release arose recently...
wouldn't it be great to release it as christmas present for the
 last loyal users we have...?
I just took a look at the log since 1.0 and I think you're right.
It seems that there are a lot of bugfixes, several new
features and code cleanup.

1.1 could be on its way...

 Thomas.
