[MOPO] Film Music

2005-09-07 Thread Danny Steward
For those of you lucky enough to live in the LA area this is a superb
opportunity! Wish I could be there!

Danny / Seattle

AFI'S 100 YEARS OF FILM SCORES

According to a press release on the website of the American Film Institute,
In May 2005, AFI distributed a ballot with 250 nominated movie scores to a
jury of over 500 leaders from the creative community, including composers,
musicians, film artists (directors, screenwriters, actors, editors and
cinematographers), critics, and historians. The 25 film scores that receive
the most votes will be presented live--and in order--by Principal Conductor
John Mauceri and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra with classic scenes from many
of the films projected on the Bowl's big screens.

For those of you who live in the Los Angeles area, the concert is scheduled
for Friday night, September 23.

Jurors used three criteria in making their selection of the greatest film
music written to serve as the dramatic underscore to an American film
released in the sound era: creative impact (film scores that enrich the
moviegoing experience by bringing the emotional elements of a film story to
life), historical significance (film scores that create a new sound and,
therefore, present the film in a distinct fashion while advancing the art
forms), and legacy (film scores that are also enjoyed apart from the movie
and evoking the memory of its film source, thus ensuring and enlivening both
the music and the movie's historical legacy).

Now here's the link to the 250 nominated film scores:

Phillip:

Thank you for posting about Mr. Igor Edelman. He has worked and
restored and linenbacked my most important movie posters. They are very kind
people. Their daughter Leena was kind to me as well. Mr. Edelman was a pioneer
in inventing the linenbacking process. I feel very honored to have known him and
the Edelman family.

[MOPO] Word on Fred Sliman

2005-09-07 Thread JR

Just a reminder about the MOPO Friends relief
pool.

I have just heard from PJ Angel about Fred Sliman A tree
narrowly missed his house and he was without power for days, but seems to be
hanging in there.

I am starting to get concerned we have heard nothing from Joe
since the first couple of days. Anybody?

Also, if anyone knows of MOPO members besides Sue, Ed, Joe,
and Fred who lived in the affected areas, please let me know.

Remember, the MOPO pool was set up so even the smallest of
donations can be made. The money will be pooled and given to those in the area
as coming from simply "Your Friends at MOPO". You can even givejust a
buck-- but PayPal will take 30 cents, so maybe you should make it at least
a $1.30... The email address to use for donations is:

[MOPO] Joe B.

2005-09-07 Thread Steven Yafet

Joe is fine, but the friend that he left his cat with was helicoptered
out and took his dog. Joe's own cat, Sister Mary Agnes who was left
with this friend, was apparently scared by the sound of the helicopter
and hid. So now she is all alone there. Anita, Toochis and I have
made numerous calls and sent numerous emails regarding her desperate
situation.

Is anyone on MoPo near to this area that they would be in a position to
check with the various shelters around New Orleans to see if Sister
Mary Agnes, a gray cat with no front claws, was rescued from 2317 Jena
St. in New Orleans, 70115.

Additionally, does anyone else have any ideas for us that we haven't
yet tried??? Time is running out and the three of us are working very
hard to try to save her.

Please if you can help, email me. If you can't, please pray!

Nathalie
