[MOPO] James Bond Tomorrow Never Dies Bollinger Champagne poster

2006-05-12 Thread Michael Wong
Where are all you Bond experts? Help!

Hi,
I picked up this poster from a box of obvious repros along with one real
one-sheet. I have no idea if it's right or not. It pictures Brosnan with his
Beretta pointed up flanked by a champagne bottle and flute. What is the
correct
size of this poster? This one is roughly 23.5x31 and printed on heavy stock.
Were their any reproductions of it?

Copyright reads:
Tomorrow Never Dies c 1997 Danjaq, LLC, United Artists Corporation

and below that
c 1962 Danjaq, LLC, United Artists Corporation

The copyrights are flanked by a United International Pictures and United
Artists logos.

[MOPO] FA GRAND HOTEL one sheet to go on eBay

2006-05-12 Thread H Brek Anderson

After much thought I have decided to list the Grand
Hotel on eBay. I do truly appreciate all the offers and
just didn't like to be the middle manbeing
askedwhat other offers I received and how much they would need to go for
me to sell to them.
And I refuse to give anybody's name of who is
expressing and interest even though I my guess is you all
know who among you are interested. I have a couple
of people outside of MoPo that have expressed and interested as
well.
Each person I talked or emailed with I have wanted
to have the poster (with the exception of the $200 deals). I do want the most
money,
but also want all to have an opportunity on their
own to buy, not based on my choice. So eBay it is. It will start tonight. All
nay
Sayers, don't email about the starting price. It is
very close to the agreed reserve Heritage had offered and is in line with top
offers.
I have enjoyed the input and efforts of those on
MoPo andalso the graciousefforts of Bruce and Grey. I wish I could
make
everybody happy. Good luck if you decide to bid. I
will try to send the link to the people who have expressed and interest
with
the link when it is listed, but I'm sure you will
find it on your own once it shows up. Bidder's user id will be marked private on
eBay
so others don't know who is bidding or wins. I have
put a high buy it now price that goes away once there is a bid. I'm sure
you
know the routine. I do hope it goes to a
MoPo.
Cheers,
Brek

Re: [MOPO] Grand Hotel eBay listing link

2006-05-12 Thread Kirby McDaniel
I would be very surprised indeed to see this poster open at $50,000.00.  Anything is possible, I suppose, but ebay tends to performbest without an astronomical opening bid required.  When the famous copy at Christie's sold, the strength in bidding quickly evaporatedafter about the $22,000 level or so and the poster was pursued by two phone bidders.  Has the market for this poster, a very ordinary, evenugly poster for a very famous film, grown?  I tend to think not.  For even $40,000 buyers could purchase several of the best postersfrom the 1930s.  The other style for this poster is much prettier, might be more hotly pursued.  But I have my doubts about this.  My bet,and I could be wrong, is that any live auction venue from one of the majors, would be better than ebay for this poster.  But if ebay was the pathway, then I think Bruce Hershenson's year end auction would have been smart.  Or selling privately through a good dealer.A question for mopo:  Is this the ugliest Garbo image ever?  Or is there one even uglier?  I wish somebody from MOPO would just ponyup the $135,000 to buy it now.  But where's the drama in that?Good luck to you, Brek.Kirby McDanielwww.movieart.netOn May 12, 2006, at 8:35 PM, Dario Casadei wrote:Sincerely, I wish you the very best of  good fortune. [MOPO] Ugliest Garbo image ever?

2006-05-12 Thread David Kusumoto

A question for mopo: Is this the ugliest Garbo image ever?

** Maybe, but there could be images on other lobbies or posters where Garbo
doesn't resemble Garbo at all, that is, you couldn't tell which one is
really Garbo. This happens from time to time with drawn posters with
big-name stars. One of the first that comes to mind is the one sheet to
Anastasia -- which features an image that bears no resemblance to Ingrid
Bergman.

** Conversely, my vote for the BEST Garbo image on any movie poster or lobby
card -- is on the title card for Queen Christina. Click the link below to
see it.

http://tinyurl.com/qltpl

** I wonder what this would be worth today. Granted, it might not be as
rare as Grand Hotel (I believe the one-sheet style Kirby is referring
offered by Christie's a few years ago -- was bid upon and won by the Academy
Awards offices in Los Angeles). I recall seeing it displayed at the Samuel
Goldwyn Theater on Wilshire Blvd. during a screening of a new print of The
Graduate last year.

** Garbo looks marvelous on The Painted Veil six-sheet. But on the
one-sheet to Ninotchka (my favorite Garbo film), Greta looks like a drab
sketch, and I think it's the reason why I rarely see the Ninotchka
one-sheet which sports the famous tag line, Garbo Laughs! -- sell for more
than $1000-1500. The sad thing is Garbo had such a short career in sound
films -- which makes me wonder aloud -- whether her legendary status is
disproportionately larger than deserved. Why Garbo?

** The Queen Christina one-sheet is awesome, but I like the TC better.
Has anyone at MoPo handled or seen OTHER Garbo posters or lobby cards (not
photos) -- which are equal or more striking than the TC to Queen
Christina? Cause I bet I missed a few.

-koose.
