Re: [MOPO] STOP! MPB Results

2006-08-01 Thread JOHN REID Vintage Movie Memorabilia

Hi PJ and MoPoers

I thought Rich did a great job promoting the
special event and he deserves to succeed with the excellent project that JR
pioneered. Ihad some good salesincluding:

Dead Reckoning US half sheet - a steal at
$400.00
Nightmare Alley - a beautiful hand litho one sheet
at only $212.00
Thomas Crown Affair - fantastic one sheet -
$200.00
Incredible Shrinking Man - a bargain at
$200.00

I also picked up an excellent lobby card for
Jamaica Inn from Abe. I think that Rich should continue with these special event
auctions. You never know, if he continues to build the site he may end up
getting bought out by eBay and make a squillion!

Regards
John

  EXCELLENT Q, Toochis.

Why do all I hear is crickets? If only we could get half
the replies to your questions thatMel Talk generated
  today.

Rich, I hope, will come in with the final figures, but it looks
like30K total, or so. Wow. That's a bunch. Abe, John Reid, and Rich all
three carried the thing, but I jumped on board and ended up selling a few
items, too. Thanks to the three of them for allowing me to "crash" the event.
They could of raised a stink, I guess, had they felt "threatened". (LOL!
Threatened by ME! Har! That will be the day...)

Too bad many of the reserves were not realized. Lessons learned, perhaps,
for the next event auction? Keep the reserves (if you're gonna have them)
reasonable. I don't suggest giving posters away, but $65 for a Sarong Girl
should had been enough, I would think.

I won a couple of things, too: Murder Is My Business LCS and the OS to
  DULCY with Ann Sothern(love her).

Anyone else score somethingon MPB? How about you Toochis?

Wow, resorting to character assasination I see.  It is what you do when you cannot honestly challenge a person' position.  I did NOT start this shit, or name-call, but if a MoPo can post something suggesting anyone anti-Bush is an America Hater then you will have to put up with me poisoning MoPo to give the other side of things.  You cannot post such garbage and not expect a response.  Bush is destroying America and the future for my son - so, yes, I'm a bit pissy about current politics.

I will ALWAYS respond to political content if I disagree.  So, why don't you take your Ann Coultergeist hate speech and shove it, Mr. Frederich March. Loser.

Since you insist on name-calling - You are an uninformed idiot with a jaded perspective on what is just in America - which is MY country too, pinhead.

I never hid the change of my emails - both still work, you ignorant flock.

I talk movie posters all the time - just not here where people like you dominate and turn off new comers.  Get a life beyond MoPo, and you will be happier - and probably more informed.

BTW - only little weenies hide behind anonymity, why don't you tell us all who you are smart guy...at least then we would know the idiot behind the rant.  Frederich March would be ashamed at you using his name for your tired rants.

Like I said before - I may not post here very often anymore, other forums are better for movie poster discussion, but if you are going to equate an anti-Bush or anti-war position with Hating America I will speak LOUD and CLEAR.  Get used to it, or stop bashing those that have a different opinion.

Oh, and plenty of people have emailed me privately in support of my responses, they just do not feel safe expressing their opinions on MoPo because of jerks like you - too bad for MoPo.  Do you even read your posts before you actually post them?  I think not, your ability to articulate a rational position is severly impaired. Loser.

[MOPO] Private vs Public posts

2006-08-01 Thread Old Time Cinema
Dear MoPo - Someone brought to my attention that the posts I thought were
public were actually private. Not sure how that happened as I read them they
appeared to be addressed to the List, and not just to me privately.
Therefore, I must apologize to the list because it was never my intention to
publically air something meant to be private - especially when it is
politically oriented. My Mistake. Best regards to all but Fred.

Re: [MOPO] Private vs Public posts

2006-08-01 Thread JR
Gary,

As far as I know, when replying to a MOPO message if you click reply to
sender your reply will go ONLY to the original sender. But, if you click
reply to ALL then your reply will go to the group. It looks like that is the
way it is still working, so if a post you meant to spend privately ended up
going to the entire list I think you must have hit reply to all by mistake. I
always glance at the TO: field in my message composition window before clicking
send to make sure it is going where I want it too -- reply to all can be a
double-edge sword. Once I inadverantly replied to all with a scathing
indictment of stupid customer. I thought I was sending it only to my colleague
who was working on the customer's problem along with me, but... you guessed
it... since I hit reply to all a copy went to the customer as well. We lost
that account and I almost lost my job over it.

Sigh... so now we've moved from ranting about Mel Gibson's private
life...to another useless round of Bush/anti-Bush bashing... and nowa few
peoplewant toperpetrate athread ragging on Bridget Bardot's
politics? What a bore. While we do occasionally stray off-topic on MOPO, this is
getting ridiculous. Rich's comment on Bardot was a wistful one about how the
recent picture of Bardot affected his own boyhood image of her... nothing to do
about her politics what so ever, but in the charged atmosphere following the
Gibson/Bush flare-up, others immediately started misinterpreting and responding
to his innocent comment with politically-correct outrage. Those who posted
flames against Rich with that knee-jerk reaction need to mellow out a bit on
their own politically-correct ax grinding and pause to think about what someone
is actually saying before jumping on them for something they didn't mean and
didn't say. Why not take this Bardot-bashing over to one of those "other forums"
that people who only post off-topic rants are always raving about being so
wonderful, where it might interest someone? Have anything to say about movie

[MOPO] Discussing posters again

2006-08-01 Thread Claude Litton

Could someone explain to me why certain sellers on ebay keep
listing the same posters over and over again with prices that have been ignored
for ages. For example, there is a French Red Dragon on for $425.
This poster has been listed so many times with that number that the listing fees
probablytotal more than he is asking. There is a $1500 Veronica Lake
floating around week after week. Then there are the 'fdavidm'
posters with their inflated unrealistic prices that are listed in droves every
time there is a cheap listing day. I can go on and on but am curious as to
why these people keep doing this. There are many more sellers who do this
and if any are here on mopo, could you please tell me what you hope to
accomplish other than paying frequent listing fees.

I'll likely be the only one to respond in this way but, I got a great deal of giggles out of the answer and response nature of some of the answers and responses that were made, especially considering the one desperate to make this a wide spread issue was some how clueless to the fact that replies were directected to them and then only. It only made some responses stronger and stronger, and those were not theres. So while I personally don't agree with personal attacks and do feel strongly on personal politics (though I don't judge others by them and honestly prefer not to know if it isn't pertinant), I got a great many chuckles and a few belly laughs.I'll take a chuckle at what's been done even if I'm alone.Ron

THE PRODUCERS '68 Style A onesheet in perfect
mint condition that has hit some sky-high numbers in the past 3-4 years. Great
poster fromthe outrageous Mel Brooks classic that he produced into
arecord busting stage musical. The recent film adaptation of that
stage musical however failed to find its audience, which only points back
tothe original 1968source material as the only paper to have on this
film phenomenon. Fantastic!
