[MOPO] YOU CALL THAT A BLOCKBUSTER?

2007-05-28 Thread Flixspix
THE NEW YORK TIMES has a great chart assessing the real blockbusters of
movie attendance, with figures in MILLIONS adjusted for inflation.

1. GONE WITH THE WIND $1,329
2. STAR WARS $1,172
3. SOUND OF MUSIC $937
4. ET THE XTRA TERR $933
5. 10 COMMANDMENTS $862
6. TITANIC $845
7. JAWS $843
8. DR. ZHIVAGO$817
9. THE EXORCIST $728
10. SNOW 7 DWARFS $717
11. SHREK 2 $468
12.SPIDER MAN $457
13.SPIDER MAN 2 $396
14.PIRATES CARIBBEAN$333
15.SHREK $311

One interesting note is TITANIC, as high as it appears on the list, never
had a re-release. All the ones preceding had several which in the case of
Star
Wars added a 100 million to its gross.

Re: [MOPO] of course, it is NOT an American original

2007-05-28 Thread Richard Evans

He was British.
His first films were made in Britain.
He then went on to make Foreign films.
But, if you're not British in that case I suppose country of origin is
Foreign.

[MOPO] Cinevent Attendance

2007-05-28 Thread Steve Haynes
Thought you folks might like to know that after a decade of slow decline,
Cinevent attendance this year was up about 7% - the largest single increase
in attendance since the Vintage Poster Art Auction joined us on Memorial Day
weekend years ago.

Needless to say, we are delighted to make up a huge check of the numbers we
had lost, and this should give us all hope that the increase indicates the
rumors of the death of film collectors conventions are greatly exaggerated!

Hope to see even more MOPOers here for our 40th Anniversary show over
Memorial Day Weekend in May of 2008.

I'm pretty sure making of movies outside the USA stopped after World War II

That's great to hear Steve!
We certainly had a great time there and dollar-wise it was by far our best

Can't wait until next year.
