[MOPO] FA: Were there sexier European versions of early 1930s U.S. movies?

2010-09-27 Thread Bruce Hershenson
I am currently auctioning a German program for *BIRD OF
PARADISE*http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detailAuction_uid1=1946342and
it is apparent that there are two large images of Dolores Del Rio
topless save for a Hawaiian lei.

My question is were there sexier European versions of early 1930s U.S.
movies, as they later did in the 1950s and 1960s, or were there just a lot
of pre-code movies with major stars appearing topless (or was this an
exception because it was a jungle type movie?

Re: [MOPO] It was the BREEN office......operating under Hayes

2010-09-27 Thread Joseph Bonelli

I just finished the bio of Joe Breen which is a history of the Hayes and Breen
era of censorship in Hollywood from 1934 to the mid-1960s.  It's one of the
most fascinating books I've ever read!!  Little did I realize as a 1950s teen,
fascinated in the Catholic school library reading about forbidden movies, that
it was representatives of what was then my church that controlled Hollywood
censorship for 30 years!!  The production code was written by a Jesuit-- Fr.
Daniel A Lord, S.J.  Please let no one be offended when I point out (as I
learned in this book) that the Irish-Catholic point of view prevailed in most
Hollywood films for over a quarter of a century.
Read it and be amazed!!  Fascinating stuff.

really had a poor attitude ( ME) because he doesnt want to work (
me)he thinks he would rather be inn a fricken park watching deer and
butterflys and bees and chipmunks,, ( me) '
being addd after about 5 mins of listing I start to make wild monkey
sounds and start pacing the cage ( my house)
then I want to leave and get some air in the park I think im cut out
to be a Roving boudiqin Goat herder or some kind of Gypsy or Nomad

anyways Ive listed like 4 Posters of such charming heartwarming stories
like Last house on the lefet scream of fear. Watch them die slowly...
that always perks me up and im listing... Noting like some splatter
blood in my cooff...@

anyways... I did put of the qerrrellel by fassbinder and warhol its dry

retentive addd idiot that uses four rolls of tape a Roll of Bubble and
is redundant and a madman and spend 2 hours on a package and smiles like
its a thrill doing it... then gripes cuxz i only pay him 75 cents a
day... some people have no thanks for anything... Im thinking of fireing
me and go back to being lost and unfocused..

I may give it 1 more day as this Goof needs some help finding himself ( ME)
No wonder the Girls follow me all over and worship me...:) OK so I am
delusional...

somebody needs to remind people that there are some left in the world..

whats shocking is people actually want my stuff ive moved like 8 times
over last 10 years...

and saved since the late 70s and 80s..
ask me if I am sorry to see it Go... I dont think so..

Re: [MOPO] FA: Were there sexier European versions of early 1930s U.S. movies?

2010-09-27 Thread Phil Edwards
She did use a body double, however, who could swim.
One of the great sequences from the 1930s and before the great dumbing down
and repression of women in cinema really started.
*sigh*

I just finished the bio of Joe Breen which is a history of the Hayes
and Breen era of censorship in Hollywood from 1934 to the mid-1960s.
It's one of the most fascinating books I've ever read!! Little did I
realize as a 1950s teen, fascinated in the Catholic school library
reading about forbidden movies, that it was representatives of what
was then my church that controlled Hollywood censorship for 30
years!! The production code was written by a Jesuit-- Fr. Daniel A
Lord, S.J. Please let no one be offended when I point out (as I
learned in this book) that the Irish-Catholic point of view prevailed
in most Hollywood films for over a quarter of a century.
Read it and be amazed!! Fascinating stuff.
