Betreff: [MOPO] Our 17th Birthday!

I can't let the day pass without mentioning another MoPo milestone..
Birthday Number 17!

On February 24, 1995 the first MoPo post was distributed via American
University's listserv. For a few weeks prior to that date, the original MoPo
members simply cc'd their e-mail messages to the other 11 people in the
group. In keeping with my annual tradition, I'd like to recognize those 11:

Mahtab Moayeri, Michael Danese, Rob Ellis, Donna Tschetter, Goh Kai Shen,
Evan Zweifel, George Nichol, Cynthia Nemeth-Johannes, Adam Ehrlich, myself
(your humble listowner) and AOL'er Static555-who for the first time I can
finally identify as Jeff Static. For years I was unsure of Static555's real
name, but by digging through the early MoPo archives I finally stumbled upon
his true identity. Michael, Rob and Evan are still members.

Thanks to you all for keeping MoPo alive these 17 years even in the face of
a lot of competition from those more graphically-enhanced discussion boards.
Also a big thanks to American University for the use of their ever-reliable
listserv system, a dinosaur that they continue to support. And thanks to the
original 11 who got MoPo off to a fine start way back in 1995.

Aloha Scott...Ho#39;omaiKa#39;i #39;Ana (congrats)

I just wanted to say I appreciate your tenure as benefactor and host ...and for
your patience!!
Mopo has kept me informed, intrigued..in stitches..and most of all connected..

As for the other lurkers who feed off the healthy posts without
replenishing..someone has to read the diatribes and check the listings without
responding or buying..

As for people on the list who post their honest feelings in light of being
picked apart and ridiculed..well that#39;s what you get :(

Many mahalos to all the great collector/dealer/stewards who utilize MOPO to
help disseminate rare film ephemera to those who covet!!!

A very warm aloha from Maui!!

Congratulations Scott, on keeping this going so long.

I just wanted to add a note on Cindy Nemeth-Johannes and myself. Cindy was
an occassional poster and a dedicated reader of this list until the time
when her illness rendered her unable to concentrate on the screen.
This was about 9 months before she passed away in June, 2008.

I read this list over her shoulder since the start, and added myself
recently. However, I mostly lurk these days.

I can't let the day pass without mentioning another MoPo milestone.. Birthday
Number 17!

On February 24, 1995 the first MoPo post was distributed via American
University's listserv. For a few weeks prior to that date, the original MoPo
members simply cc'd their e-mail messages to the other 11 people in the group.

Thanks to you all for keeping MoPo alive these 17 years even in the face of a
lot of competition from those more graphically-enhanced discussion boards. Also

I can’t let the day pass without mentioning another MoPo milestone….
Birthday Number 17!

On February 24, 1995 the first MoPo post was distributed via American
University’s listserv. For a few weeks prior to that date, the
original MoPo members simply cc’d their e-mail messages to the other
11 people in the group. In keeping with my annual tradition, I’d like
to recognize those 11:

Mahtab Moayeri, Michael Danese, Rob Ellis, Donna Tschetter, Goh Kai
Shen, Evan Zweifel, George Nichol, Cynthia Nemeth-Johannes, Adam
Ehrlich, myself (your humble listowner) and AOL’er Static555—who for
the first time I can finally identify as Jeff Static. For years I was
unsure of Static555’s real name, but by digging through the early MoPo
archives I finally stumbled upon his true identity. Michael, Rob and
Evan are still members.

Thanks to you all for keeping MoPo alive these 17 years even in the

2012-02-25 Thread David Kusumoto

No offense, but like most of us, I'm too busy to get sucked into other forums
beyond tiny MoPo. I like the self-policing nature of everything. I still
think I joined in late 1996 because that's when I was a journalist/consumer
activist and I got into a public battle with Sotheby's over a repro quad of A
Hard Day's Night. But my first reference to MoPo in my journal doesn't turn
up until early 1997 when I started an ugly thread entitled, shyster dealers.
I was WAY worse in those days. I wish I knew the exact date when I joined.
Never did I think I'd still be hanging w/the usual suspects in 2012. Congrats,
Scott!

P. S. - I agree with Zeev. My belated condolences to Jay Nemeth-Johannes about
Cindy's passing. Because she didn't post a lot, I still thought she was
lurking. I didn't know she was ill. The thought of her voice never returning
to these boards makes me sad. -d.

exploitation classic! (Yes, I use the word classic a little loosely.)

This UK juvie-style movie featured Christopher Lee as a strip club manager, an
early screen appearance by Oliver Reed and a very early film score (possibly
his first) by the legendary John Barry!

Also released as Beat Girl, but with a snipe pasted over the original title.
This poster has no snipe.

Cindy was a real sweetheart! She tried to set me up with a company that
would install a great in-home movie theater for me at cost (if I let them
use pictures in their ads) but I didn't have the space needed, I remember
her always being kind in this group, a rare commodity, She IS missed.

Congratulations Scott, on keeping this going so long.

I just wanted to add a note on Cindy Nemeth-Johannes and myself. Cindy
was an occassional poster and a dedicated reader of this list until the
time when her illness rendered her unable to concentrate on the screen.
This was about 9 months before she passed away in June, 2008.

I read this list over her shoulder since the start, and added myself
recently. However, I mostly lurk these days.

 Birthday Number 17!

On February 24, 1995 the first MoPo post was distributed via American
University’s listserv. For a few weeks prior to that date, the original
MoPo members simply cc’d their e-mail messages to the other 11 people in
the group. In keeping with my annual tradition, I’d like to recognize those
 11:

Mahtab Moayeri, Michael Danese, Rob Ellis, Donna Tschetter, Goh Kai Shen,
Evan Zweifel, George Nichol, *Cynthia Nemeth-Johannes*, Adam Ehrlich,
myself (your humble listowner) and AOL’er Static555—who for the first time
I can finally identify as Jeff Static. For years I was unsure of
Static555’s real name, but by digging through the early MoPo archives I
finally stumbled upon his true identity. Michael, Rob and Evan are still
 members.

Thanks to you all for keeping MoPo alive these 17 years even in the face
of a lot of competition from those more graphically-enhanced discussion
boards. Also a big thanks to American University for the use of their
ever-reliable listserv system, a dinosaur that they continue to support.
And thanks to the original 11 who got MoPo off to a fine start way back in
 1995.

I attempted a funny post about this, but SERIOUSLY: we all owe Scott Burns
a debt of gratitude for taking the responsibility for MOPO. I think it is
Scott who has
engendered the list with a sense of respect for the subject and the members who
are on it.
While we get a little rowdy at times, there is little of the backbiting and
hostility that has
sometimes been apparent on other lists.

Thank you, Scott, for keeping MOPO. It's a great gig where we can all talk to
each other.

Many Happy Returns,
