[MOPO] WTB: THE LORAX one sheets

2012-03-06 Thread Kirby McDaniel
30 to 50 copies of THE LORAX one sheet?
Can anyone help? They must be authentic, obviously, and they
must be near mint and double sided. I suspect all these new posters
are double sided now... Also, is there an International style one sheet for
this film?

I bought this Pinocchio R62 window card when it was pristine on the front
(w/some browning on the back) for $40 at eBay.  The seller claimed no one
packs better than him, that he has been on eBay since 1999 with no problems -
and has great feedback.  I warned him repeatedly that if he insists on shipping
this rolled instead of FLAT - to not let the poster hug the shipping tube.
He ignored me and the result is below.  Cut to the chase; I got a refund and
shipping reimbursed in both directions, the seller was extremely apologetic,
cited personal problems that adversely affected his performance (otherwise I
would out him right now).  He did make it right with me but still, what a
waste!  I did everything in my power to prevent this from happening except not
having the clairvoyance to know that I SHOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT FROM HIM IN THE
FIRST PLACE.

   * Fill the tank full. If you need to fill up, fill up all the way. The more
money you try to save by adding $10 today and then $20 tomorrow will be
wasted since each time you will have to travel to the station and wait for a
pump. Instead, do it all at once to save time and money.
   * Don't top up your tank between fills. It is wasted money and bad for the
environment because it invariably forces liquid fuel into the evaporative
emissions system where it overwhelms circuits that are supposed to only route
fuel tank vapors to the engine while it is running and can be burned.
   * Wait until you have a quarter tank but don't push this any further. Doing
this can extend your gas mileage because you are hauling a lighter fuel load.
It also gives you the opportunity to buy more gas if you run across a
bargain. However, in cold weather, you run an increased risk of condensation
in the fuel tank. Running a car with less than a quarter tank can shorten the
life of the electric fuel pump and running on empty will often destroy the
 pump.

The Posters are original, and come from a Regional Film
Archive in Mexico City.

They were designed in Hollywood or Europe and printed in
Mexico.

They contain both stills from the Film and also design
elements from the One Sheet Poster.

The typography, photos, artwork, stars names, credits,
drawings, scenes, emotional impact,

appeal, and intrinsic value are
virtually the same as Posters from Hollywood or any other

international Metropolis where the film had been shown.

However, the layout will be much flashier, more graphically
intensive, or even more lurid.

The size is appx. 13 x 17---over 40% larger than
a standard Lobby Card.

As such, each Poster is a cross between a Jumbo Lobby Card,
Title Card, and a One Sheet Poster.

The Posters were printed on either heavy Cardboard Stock,
thick fine Linen Paper, or

sturdy Poster Stock.

Overall very good condition, altho there will be occasional
tears, pinholes, stains, etc.

There are eight different variations for each
poster---containing different stills from the film.

Some dupes.

Re: [MOPO] 1/2 a Tank Only

2012-03-06 Thread Joseph Bonelli
We in New Orleans are given different advice re fillups. It is recommended that
we DO remain filled up or close to it at certain times of the year.  Otherwise,
gasoline evaporates in the tank do to excessive heat in summertime.
Which is the correct method??  Since I've personally almost evaporated in
summer around here, I think I'll try to follow that advice.

Re: [MOPO] continuation: poster values with autographs

2012-03-06 Thread lovenoir2
If the autograph cannot be authenticated (not meaning a COA that
anyone can create and print), and is a fake, it would bring the
poster's value way down. In looking at the seller's description, he
mentions nothing about where the autograph came from or who obtained
it. He only talks about who the person may have been that it was
inscribed to.

And for many poster collectors, even an authentic signature on a
poster is viewed as a kind of graffiti. So even if genuine, the
signature wouldnt necessarily boost the value, but could drop it as
well.

Ultimately, it would be of more value to a collector who likes posters
or other memorabilia that is signed.

I see, too, that Bruce just sold a backed copy of this OS in December
2011, for 368.00.

Re: [MOPO] continuation: poster values with autographs

2012-03-06 Thread Richard C Evans
As these go, I don't think that particular title signed by Bette Davis is bad
at all.

Looks late though, and shaky.

I see, too, that Bruce just sold a backed copy of this OS in December

Re: [MOPO] continuation: poster values with autographs

2012-03-06 Thread Richard Halegua Comic Art
in this case I agree with some of what Kerry says, however the real
key is this:

#1 Bette's autograph isn't big bucks $100 or so depending on factors
#2 I can't tell if it's a 1940s vintage autograph or a 1970s
autograph (and it makes a difference)

so the best you would be looking for is this $300 poster with a $100
autograph = $400

this is not the same as the It Happened One Night tc in Heritage soon
with a Frank Capra autograph
Capra's autograph is worth less than Bette's about $50, but in that
particular combination, the card could be worth a lot more than before

if such a card were inscribed To Claudette, it was wonderful working
with you on this movie that would increase the item greatly

Re: [MOPO] Another poster seller who doesn't know how to pack.

2012-03-06 Thread David Kusumoto

I know. It just boggles the mind. This definitely happens more often when I'm
buying things from merchants who sell a wide variety of items besides paper. I
would never get this from a full-time poster seller. I've even bought rolled
maps that are too big to be shipped flat - but still arrive with creases
because some people don't understand the not hugging the inside of the tube
rule. I write, please don't let the rolled item hug the inside of the tube
because outer dings can damage it. And they're thinking, damage, how?
They don't get it and I can't make it any simpler.

In this latest case, the guy brags he's the best packer in the world while
expressing irritation about my packing tips, which I provided only because he
said he was going to ship the window card rolled. That should have been a red
flag. Maybe because it was only a $40 item (vs. a $400 item) the guy got
cavalier on shipping. Then when the I told you so moment arrives, there is a
sometimes less-than-veiled insinuation from the seller that I deliberately made
a self-fulfilling prophecy come true, e.g., that I caused the damage to get out
of the sale. This has happened more than once so I began to take photos of all
parcels arriving with exterior shipping damage BEFORE opening them. Again,
such a waste.

At any rate, if anyone has an unfolded and clean R62 Pinocchio window card for
a comparable price, let me know. -d.

I
can't imagine why any poster seller would want to ship a window card rolled

Another poster seller who doesn't know how to pack.

I bought this Pinocchio R62 window card when it was pristine on the front
(w/some browning on the
back) for $40 at eBay. The seller claimed no one packs better than
him, that he has been on eBay since 1999 with no problems - and has great
feedback. I warned him repeatedly that if he insists on shipping this
rolled instead of FLAT - to not let the poster hug the shipping tube.
He ignored me and the result is below. Cut to the chase; I got a refund
and shipping reimbursed in both directions, the seller was extremely
  apologetic, cited personal problems that
adversely affected his performance (otherwise I would out him right
now). He did make it right with me but still, what a waste! I did
everything in my power to prevent this
from happening except not having the clairvoyance to know that I SHOULDN'T
HAVE BOUGHT FROM HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE.
