[MOPO] A new record at eMoviePoster.com!

2014-05-27 Thread Bruce Hershenson
So May 23rd was our final deadline for consignments for our July Major
Auction and *ALL *last week (leading up to Friday the 23rd) we were
receiving ten to twenty packages and tubes a day, and trying to get it all
dealt with was wearing my warehouse manager Clark completely out.

So when Friday came, I told him, "Well, now you can finally rest, because
the deadline is passed", and then I thought, "But what if the consignors
thought the 23rd was the deadline to *SEND *the packages?".

So we get in today (yesterday was the Memorial Day holiday, and there were
no deliveries) and what happens? We get *FIFTY THREE* boxes and tubes
delivered in a single day from UPS and USPS. And there is still no telling
what tomorrow (and the rest of the week) may bring. But please, no one tell
Clark about that!

Re: [MOPO] Cinevent

2014-05-27 Thread Adrian Cowdry
Well I am adding my few penneth here and I have to say that for me this
Cinevent was a bit more emotional than the past.

For starters Steve Sally is looking good and is through the worst of his
illness- I needed to see him in person and it was great to see how ell he is
doing.

Steve Senior is doing well too after his dehydration attack.

The rest of the boys were in great spirits and for me the five days I was there
was very cathartic.

As for the material available there was a great eclectic mix on offer including
some wonderful lobby cards (Wizard of Oz, Painted Veil, Suspicion and a ton
more). The Sally's had one of the greatest one off posters available Way Out
West which was an absolute pleasure to see.

Morrie Everett's auction was as usual huge and very eclectic - a major
collection of stills and some very nice pieces including Werewolf of London
Window Card, Gun Crazy One Sheet and Casablanca Window Card, the stills were in
the main grabbed by one collector. I hope we may see some of the duplicates
emerge on the market.

As mentioned before the hotel was/is in the throes of being remodelled. A shame
really as the construction crew appeared to be making steps forward but the
movie collectors would knock the new work with tubes and art cases so the work
was constantly being redone.

The bar manager - Pam - was an absolute sweetheart. She looked after us
extremely well. Big thumbs up to her professionalism.

The biggest pain was that fact that my rental car was broken into and my ipod
and satnav were stolen. The next night five more cars were broken into...Ramada
you need to up the security stakes.

This Never Happened to the Other Fella

Hi Zeev and brother and sister mopolians...Zeev asked me to comment on my
impressions of Cinevent this year..I had not been there for a number of years I
thought it would be nice to meet some old friends and on that note was sorry
that Zeev, the Searle brothersand Sean Linkenback would not be in attendance.I
also wanted to experience what it's like to be a seller at Cinevent ie whats
life like on the other side of the table. I only sold at one other show back in
the day when Mo Everett had a show in NY.which had a small turnout. so i
purchased a table and drove from NY with my son to Columbus. I would take this
opportunity to extol his praises cause he knew i wouldnt go alone and though
his interest is modest at best he gave up some of his vacation time to do a
father and son road trip. so i through a few posters and lobby cards together
and off we went. The hotel as always is in a veritable state of ruin. more so
than usual as they are remodelling. One fellow told me when he turned on his
water his sink fell out of the wall..welcome to the ramada..a few cars were
broken into in the parking lot..etc. I realized i would not have much time to
watch movies but I liked what I saw everyone liked the film Double Door which
was on the cover of the Cinevent program. The number of people attending
Cinevent seemed the same to me as i had seen in the past. Mo mentioned his
auction did very well. As to my experience as a seller..I didn't expect to sell
much and i didn't but what was great was the people stopping by the table..I
had never met Ron Borst..I had purchased a thief of bagdad 1/2 sheet many years
ago I noticed it had a stamp on the back from the collection of Ron Borst..I
didn't know who he was or anything about Graven Images when i bought it..It was
great meeting him..we chatted and he commented that he wished he hadn't sold
that poster..Next to me was a seller named Eduardo I don't know his last
name..Sure you guys do..He was selling mostly stills..i don't collect stills
and was curious about them ..I asked him if he would give me a quick tutorial
and he did and i learned much.My table was close to the Sallys and i had a nice
talk with Steph Sr. Ritchie Helegua was his normal rambunctious self. One other
notable was a fellow named Cary Black he showed me a binder of his film noir
collection ..outstanding with some very rare pieces.

i doubt eBay will gain any good feeling from sellers ... i'm still an eBay
seller but they are really blowing it , no negative/neutral feedback for
bidders years ago , then 10% fees on postage costs , the french eBay site
didn't take a fee on postage costs when eBay.com started but they recently
announced they'll put that in place too and the way they try to motivate it
is so insulting to the intelligence of sellers , it's like a bird crapping

Now that eBay sees they can't sweep this under the table and forget it, they
have taken a REALLY weird action!

They recognize that many auctions were affected by bidders who forgot to
change their passwords on snipe programs, and they have announced that any
seller can cancel auction transactions for an 11-day period!

Of course, this will infuriate the high bidders on those items, who
rightfully won, and now are having those items taken away from them (it is
up to the seller to decide, and of course they will cancel any result they
deem too low, regardless of whether there were any missed bids at all).

While this may gain eBay some good feeling from auction sellers, it will
likely be more than offset from bad feelings from auction bidders, but I
suspect the main reason for this is to protect themselves from seller
lawsuits.

 eBay

IMPORTANT: PASSWORD UPDATE

Dear eBay Member,

To help ensure customers' trust and security on eBay, I am asking all eBay
users to change their passwords.

Here's why: Recently, our company discovered a cyberattack on our corporate
information network. This attack compromised a database containing eBay user
passwords.

What's important for you to know: We have no evidence that your financial
information was accessed or compromised. And your password was encrypted.

What I ask of you:
Go to eBay and change your password. Changing your password may be
inconvenient. I realize that. We are doing everything we can to protect your
data and changing your password is an extra precautionary step, in addition
to the other security measures we have in place.

If you have only visited eBay as a guest user, we do not have a password on
file.

If you used the same eBay password on any other site, I encourage you to
change your password on those sites too. And if you are a PayPal user, we
have no evidence that this attack affected your PayPal account or any PayPal
financial information, which is encrypted and stored on a separate secure
network.

Here are other steps we are taking:

. As always, we have strong protections in place for both buyers and
sellers in the event of any unauthorized activity on your account.

satisfying people and the law. The more interesting thing for me in the link
that Bruce provided, is just what a continually reduced amount of eBay
business is defined through auctions.

While this may gain eBay some good feeling from auction sellers, it will
likely be more than offset from bad feelings from auction bidders, but I
suspect the main reason for this is to protect themselves from seller
lawsuits.

I think pressbooks overall have been greatly undervalued.
They are one of the truly great (but often overlooked) wonders available to
movie material collectors and archives.

Thanks for the report, Alan! Sorry I missed another one. I was there about
seven (!) years ago. Finally met a few people in person, including Richie
and the Sallys. Speaking of the Steves, I used to buy from them all the time
on eBay. Glad to hear they're still selling. I got some great stuff from
them back in the day.

of his film noir collection ..outstanding with some very rare pieces..there
were a few younger people and kids with their parents in attendance as
well..I left early Sunday morning and promptly got a speeding ticket 65mph
