Re: [MOPO] One Thousand Five Hundred Consignors!
At least 10,000, maybe much more (we are still organizing everything). But when you auction 2,000 to 3,000 per week, they go fast. Plus, many of these were bulk lot material, so in many cases 50 posters only result in a single auction. Re: [MOPO] Have you signed up for a Facebook store yet?
I've been holding back, mainly because of Facebook's recent practice of throttling the reach of FB business pages, which would also affect any store you set up. I happen to know Shopify because my website is built on their platform. Overall I'm happy with it but I have noticed (this is common these days for companies like this) that the level of customer support is starting to erode. Also, despite promises to the contrary, you get virtually no help with marketing and search engine optimization, other than pointing you to a series of videos that tell you things you probably already know. So I'm sceptical and see it as another grab for fees by both companies. Doesn't mean I might not try it, though, at least as an experiment. Any additional presence online is a good thing if it builds your relationships with your customers and brings you sales. Multi-platform is the way to go, obviously. Besides the website and Facebook, I have a presence on eBay, Amazon and Etsy, as well as accounts on Tumblr, Flickr, Pinterest and Twitter. It can suck up a lot of your time when you're a one-man band like me, but there really is no other choice in this day and age if you have limited resources and want to reach people. Re: [MOPO] Have you signed up for a Facebook store yet?
In my opinion, they will get these going at a really low cost. Then they will get people with business pages to switch over. Then the price will rise and rise and rise and rise. Meanwhile the site will get even more cluttered with ads, and young people will continue to desert the site in droves, leaving the retirees and shut-ins. Then the next big thing will come along, and everyone will say Remember Facebook? Re: [MOPO] FA: One of the best lobby card buying opportunities in years; lots of GREAT 1920s to 1950s titles; over half of these 999 are $4 or under with hours to go!

Re: [MOPO] Have you signed up for a Facebook store yet?
I agree with Bruce about the cost being low at the start - it's about getting market share and then dictating the terms and the prices when they have you locked in (fortunately no one here just uses eBay to sell their products through... ;-) ) But Facebook is here to stay, they will (continue to) offer plenty of new services and add-ons that will continue to grow their share of the online business, some will work, some will not, and despite their poor share market start they have proved they can generate income and profit and their share prices have reflected it. Companies will continue to use them as a means of marketing themselves and their products - hell with a billion members only a fool would ignore that sort of potential audience. My main worry is, and as I have said elsewhere, will your Facebook shop be found? SEO plays a key (Search Engine Optimisation) does anyone search for a business etc on Facebook? Perhaps one day you will, who knows. Type 'Vintage Movie Posters' in Google and check the results, now do the same in Facebook - I have no idea the results but was that the result you were looking for? I have advertised on Facebook, do I care you (the royal you not the Bruce you) think there are too many adverts? Hell no! Every time I spend money on Facebook I generate a solid ROI. I haven't yet found a newspaper that has no ads, or a specialist magazine that doesn't promote a specialist supplier. I've said it before and I say it again, anyone can have an online presence, making it work for you is the trick and believe me it's hard work and it will cost money. Facebook, eBay, Google Shopping etc etc it's here to stay because it's the way the world works now and it will work but as the old bumper sticker said: Gas, Grass, Or Ass - No One Rides For Free. David Rew Bruce Hershenson did previously state on 13/06/2014 8:42 AM: In my opinion, they will get these going at a really low cost. On Thu, Jun 12, 2014 at 9:32 AM, Posteropolis posteropo...@bell.net mailto:posteropo...@bell.net wrote: I’ve been holding back, mainly because of Facebook’s recent practice of throttling the reach of FB business pages, which would also affect any store you set up. I happen to know Shopify because my website is built on their platform. Overall I’m happy with it but I have noticed (this is common these days for companies like this) that the level of customer support is starting to erode. Also, despite promises to the contrary, you get virtually no help with marketing and search engine optimization, other than pointing you to a series of videos that tell you things you probably already know. So I’m sceptical and see it as another grab for fees by both companies. Doesn’t mean I might not try it, though, at least as an experiment. It can suck up a lot of your time when you’re a one-man band like me, but there really is no other choice in this day and age if you have limited resources and want to reach people.
