[MOPO] Do it For Bruce's Kids!!
Bruce's two emails this week about the sad state of his auctions have really yanked on the ol' heartstrings, and I think it's time the community pulls together as a team and pitches in to help save his business. As we all know, Bruce is far too modest to ever say a word about himself, but let me let you in on a little secret: Bruce is losing money on thousands of items a week!! We already know from his testimony that he loses money on almost every sub-$20 item he sells. In fact he has told us he doesn't even come close to breaking even on those items. Then Tuesday he reminded us that around half of all that we auction goes for $14 and under (which likely means a wackadoodle 60% or so sell under $20), and at that point over half his items were not even $6 or more. Now today, he's got almost half his items sitting at $3!?!?! At that rate how much longer do you think he will be able to continue to offer these auctions? My worry now is that he is teetering so close to going under that we might not even get to see his spectacular upcoming Halloween auction for which we've been waiting all year. So here's the plan. For just PENNIES a day, YOU can help save a movie poster institution. Every time you place a bid, just bid $1.00 more than you wanted to pay and let Bruce know that extra dollar is for Bruce's Kids - you know, the other 25 members of the emovieposter team. Probably the only reason Bruce is keeping his doors open is his commitment to them, being responsible for .3% of the population of Howell County, MO. It's a burden that he shouldn't have to bare alone, and with a little bit of help and compassion, he wont have to any longer. If everyone pitches in and does his or her part, we can all help Bruce overcome these tragic results and maybe one day he can make money again. If this doesn't work, we will all be staring straight in the face of nothing but outrageous $14 buyer's premiums and very likely the end of movie poster collecting as we know it (maybe even the end of the world). I don't know about you, but I don't want to live in a horrible world like that, so I'm going over to emovieposter right now and make some bids that I don't even want to make, but I'm going to do it for Bruce's Kids!! What are you waiting for?!! We have 999 folded non-U.S. posters (including many Australian, German, and Mexican) non-U.S. lobby cards (mostly French, German, and Mexican) at auction that are getting ready to close, and there are some excellent ones, but also lots of inexpensive ones as well. There are just 13 hours to go before they start to end TONIGHT Thursday, October 6th. I just looked over the current prices on these just about to end items, and the prices on many of them are really hard to believe! With just 13 hours to go, the 999 folded non-U.S. posters non-U.S. lobby cards include a wackadoodle 127 that have no bid at all, 381 that are still languishing at just $1 each or have no bid, and a Mt. Howdy y'all, I like a decent battle of wits, a verbal volleyball game at times, but there is something about the message below that doesn't quite 'taste' right. Maybe it has something to do with (what I perceive is) a comparison to Jerry's Kids. Somehow ... sarcastically comparing BH marketing to an annual fundraiser for a terrible disease may not be such a great idea. What say y'all ... Re: [MOPO] Do it For Bruce's Kids!!
Bruce, Heritage, Heim, Morrie, Rich , Rix, and a few others all share some good marketing skills.. they all use repetive advertising or frequency .. in advertising there is frequency and reach.. reach is the demographics of the target group.. also there is perceived value, or scarcity perception... then ther is the fear of loss by low cost factors and availibility.. If you look all share that model of commerce as thats what stimulates a sale.. And in some cases they sacrifice some items as it makes the slaes genuine however also fertilizes the overall sale.. whats paramount importance and again all seem to share is CUSTOMER SERVICE,, because without the after the sale service you can ruin the entire transaction.. Many dealers overlook that and just try to WIN by getting the best price for them.. But its investing in the customer that makes sens because you may have a customer for the rest of your life if you just treat them well.. That why packing and after the sale is so important.. the customer is like extended family.. the more you learn about thier lives the more you can help them with thier collections and understand what they like and why.. also one of the best paybacks is you can learn so much from a collector about so many things... I neverheard of many actors until a collector would educate me..I love to hear the storys and also when you can view collections its like a field trip... when i hear of private collections and see mopers share thier hobbies and knowledge thats my reward.. recently some mighty collections like Debbie Reynolds and now the john Wayne collection are up... and even though i cannot afford to be a buyer its just so important in the concervation of screen memorabilia.. and im glad its getting respect. anyways to all the dealers that careabout thier customers and the ones that have been around ive found do.. and also have a great love for what they sell whether posters of books or films..costumes whatever I think the key is friendship with your customers,, I think Larry Edmunds and jerry Ohlinger and many of the longtime dealers know this better then most.. So Bruce and the mopo gang like Kirby and Jim episale, and all you regulars that take care of the customer like family. bravo.
