Re: [MOPO] What's the best movie about your profession?

2017-12-28 Thread allen day
I work in health care; there are plenty of health care flicks and related
TV series.

"The Hospital" with George Scott (darkly) reminds me of the patients who
'fall thru the cracks' in the healthcare system with avoidable results, but
improved workplace 'safety checks' have made that film distant history.

"Grey's Anatomy" not so much for the event portrayal, but more so for the
(supposed) private lives of the health care employees. The TV series can't
touch reality. Crazy stuff.

2017-12-27 Thread Tom Martin
wow...that does not surprise me at all.. in 1976 i was trying t geta
record deal inla..wheni heard the recntsexual allegations, i
thought..ladies its been going on since bc...look at history and the
show biz is built on sex and stuff anyways..they propositioned me at
10-20 in record companys one guy said les gowrestle... so..at thehamburg
hamlet in beverly hils whenMel Blanc took me to lunch i sad Mel ? do i
havet sell out to make it inthebiz..? can i be honest?? he said well tom
there are some good guys and some ntso good guys...try to network wit
the good guys...On 2017-12-27 02:57, MoviePoster Collectors wrote:
wheni met his son noel in like1990 he was justas cool as his dad..and
loved myson Tommy as he had no kids...we went back to hamburg hamlet as
i told mel next time itwa my treat,,however mel pased away by then..so
noel said my friend would love to meet and talk to you bu hes out of
town..curious i said whos the friend..he said KIrk Douglas my moms
was from Bermuda and so was kirks wife and micahel was born there..so we
had a link...

inthe 40 years ive been doing this crazy biz..its ben the most
incredible jorney i could ever imagibne...as i was expelled from
scjhoolat age 15 fordrawingapic of led zepplin, had no father to show
me anything.and ironicallya man named Mel eshenburg was my 1st
mentor..mystepgrandfatherwho taught me uke,,at age like 7...so im
bewildered ive been allowed to do anything..as mostwas a single mom ,who
didnt evendrive,,my grandmother raised me while mom was at worka sec
fora ad agency..and then a quality control personinthelab at general
mills...

Ive met all kinds inshow biz myex wifes famiy was swedish and sicilian
so part is in Howard beach nyc and funeral directors and by Gotti...so
ive heard many wild storys andforsome reason as my dad was also sicilian
from Rochester ny..and pa...and a us sgtmariane corp in Korea...yet he
met my mom in Toledo..she was a arthur murry dance teacher,,,lol use
your imagination..the college pres told him to take dance lessons to
stay out of troublelol..

so i just rekoned i must have been ona journey to prove i was useful and
could be liked and do something as kids who are abandoned get
complexes..so the many show biz people that have helped me where all
mentors..and its almost likewizard of oz as each offered me wisdom..i
just posted one Edward lowe..who on dec 24 1993 called me and said dont
give up ona tademark lawsuit..and he and a inventor bernie cousino
whowas at theedison institue wanted to help this kid out and berine was
92 -94 whose counting..well we siuceeded in defending the mark and gota
settlement as you said most dont go to tril but i was ready with like5
steamer trunks of eveidence...looking back it taught me how to gather
data and ifyou are honest with people you dont have to lie as how these
things fall apart is people build the who thing on lies...so the more i
looked at the papertaril it supported what i thoughtanayways as it hard
to remeberwhat you did last week,,but the pieces come together ina odd
way...i basically jus asked God for help..anditwas magical ,,the
opposingside started toinfuightwitheach other...recentlya guy contaced
me about my 1st home before my shop that we did the mail order in..and t
was funny as i had a flye and bank statements i saved from then and
wheni 1st started i had done it as a sideline to my booking agency so
itwas over 40 years ago...who keeps reaocrds likethat??? i even saved
catalog requests withenvelops..not to prove my business..because i was
so happy hat peopel wanted to buy my stuff i saved them...so wheni neede
evidence..we proved we aere around 5 years prior to the others and even
had ups dhipping records and date stampted envelopes to prove it...and
ads..etc,,,so thats why i believ in miracles and gods always thereso
allthe paralegal showed me how to organize as ina case...most sides use
omission and sandbag,,but if you meetsolid peple that are fair and
honest they pierce the viel ofdeception..and i hope to help others do
that also..

we won the case on the oint torfeasor theaory,,ad pierced the
corpveil..becaise officers knew they infringed and didnt disclose
it..whenwe wereawarded settlement they tryed to bankrupt so they didnt
have to apy,,but we made sure they coud not do shell games unless they
paid the judgement,,yes itwas stres,,yess it was scarey and took from 93
-97 but if you hang inthere and dont give up thats the thing god teaches
us..and all the people that helped me..likeMel Blanc, Capra, Lowe,
Schwarseezenneger,, and countless others...many mopo people...my fave
movie alltime is =Its awonderful life,,1946.. i felt Frank shook my hand
inspirit,,,the film has litlle mesages..likei just heard wainright say
the plastics factory would be built inRochester..and my left ear is deaf
like George bailys..and they were set to go toBermuda and sacrificed the
money to save the bank,,and

2017-12-26 Thread MoviePoster Collectors
I'll start. I was an attorney for 20 years and definitely agree that "My
Cousin Vinny" is the funniest movie about lawyering. It is not realistic in
one sense: Most attorneys never try cases, contrary to popular belief,
because the vast majority settle or are dismissed. (Likewise, in criminal
cases, 95% of the time the defendant plea bargains.)

I actually did second-chair one jury case. We represented the wife who was
suing for divorce, child custody, and . I could write a screen-play
about that crazy case! The husband owned the only porn store in the county
and had ALLEGEDLY buried mountains of untaxed cash proceeds from the store.
We presented lots of sleazy witnesses who described his shenanigans. Our
client was cosmetically "enhanced" to the max and had received $100K in
jewelry from husband. When questioned, she admitted she had condoned and
benefitted from the shenanigans but could not quit working for the store
because "I was the world's best vibrator salesperson!" Eventually, both
parties became convinced the FBI was monitoring the trial and agreed to
settle after four days of trial before they got arrested!
