Re: [MOPO] Odd Kong factoid

2010-03-17 Thread James Richard
Let's not forget that in the opening credits to the 1933 film, Kong
himself is listed on screen as King Kong - The Eighth Wonder of the
World and that is also how the character Carl Denham ballyhoos Kong's
debut appearance in New York City in the film.

Given that the phrase appeared at least twice in the film (and the
script), it's not unreasonable to think that at some point they were
considering The Eight Wonder of the World as the film's title (or
perhaps sub-title). The phrase may have slipped into some early
pre-production publicity and press releases before the name of the film
was formalized as King Kong.

I was just looking at a 1932 exhibitor magazine, and in it there
is a two page spread for RKO's 1932-33 season, and in it the text
says that a bunch of great movies are coming, including The
Eighth Wonder (formerly Kong)!

Has anyone ever seen anything else that refers to King Kong as
either The Eighth Wonder or Kong (obviously both were working
titles)?
