Re: [MOPO] SPAM-LOW: Re: [MOPO] SNIPING IS NOT INFALLIBLE
I am 99.999% certain it is impossible to bid against yourself on eBay, except in the exact completing the bid increment example cited by Claude, or if you use two different eBay IDs that you have. I am so sure of this that I will give a set of 26 books to the first person who can show me a bid history where a person raised their own bid beyond a single bid imcrement. So go ahead and place a snipe bid and also bid yourself, and you will have double protection against any sort of failure. But what in the world does this have to do with Al Shevy? Hasn't MoPo turned into the Al Shevy Society? Let's have an Al Shevy update. Bruce At 01:07 PM 10/19/2005, Kirby McDaniel wrote: I'd like to find out this for sure. is that correct? forget using that site folks I use a program called AuctionSentry it works perfectly except for when ebay does site change which affect all programs I use both version.. actually like the minor version better and it's cheap! with forever updates www.auctionsentry.com I couldnt recommend it more highly Rich At 09:18 AM 10/19/05, Kirby McDaniel wrote: Just a note to the members about sniping --- and I do this because I have posted here before that if you really want something, you should snipe to get it. Using a sniping service like e-snipe is often a good method, and I use it quite often, but it is not infallible. Last week I wanted an item - actually two items - in Bruce Hershenson's weekly ebay auction. So I set a bid with e-snipe. But if you recall recent postings to mopo, you will remember that some concerns were raised about ebay and passwords. So -- I changed my ebay password. I also changed my e-snipe LOG-IN password. But I forgot to reflect the change of ebay password within the e-snipe account settings. You can guess the result. My bids were rejected by ebay for security reasons and I quite likely lost the item because of this. Now you may say, and quite rightly, that this was human error, and it was. But my point is this. I should have backed up my sniping, in this instance, with a regular bid, because this was an important item for me. It would not have cost me anything - you can't bid against yourself - and I would have probably won this item. Kirby:When auctions are PRIVATE, like Bruce's auctions, you definitely can bid against yourself. Because the auctions are PRIVATE, eSnipe and other sniping programs, do not recognize other bidders. You may notice that eSnipe's program DOES NOT CHARGE for sniping on private auctions, because they are often unable to tell who really won the listing. They are marked "Unconfirmed".
