[mou-net] Loggerhead Shrike, Dakota County Technical College - update
My previous message didn't come out right...what I said was "the bird flew down from the fence into the grass several times and back up to the fence again. I couldn't tell if he was successful in catching anything - it seemed like he didn't." Yesterday I observed a Loggerhead Shrike perched on the chainlink fence on the west side of Dakota Co Techni - it seemed like he didn't. After a few minutes he disappeared and I moved on, but an hour later when I was departing, he was back in the same place. On Emery, just south of 160th St, , a Loggerhead Shrike is hunting from the power lines. After 3 dives into the grass it came up with a large worm, which it wrestled int submission. [mou-net] Loggerhead Shrike (Dakota County)
After walking the Cannon River Bottom trail on Sunday June 21st and finding a male Cerulean Warbler exactly where Steve Weston posted (thank you Steve), during our ride home we decided to swing by the 180th Street Marsh. We exited highway 52 at 190th Street drove east then took a left onto Emery Ave. and heading north toward 180th. There we found a very cooperative Loggerhead Shrike sitting on the wires (east side of street).
