I doubt that, Glenn. I don’t think that it was alive when another birder and I
retrieved the gull. I transported it to the WRC. Please note my eBird post

I'm reminded of the barn owl in January 2020 down in Zim, MN that weakened and
died in front of a flock of birdwatchers. Then the ivory gulls that came to the
Duluth lakefront in early January 2016; two of those gulls died if I'm not
mistaken, even though the birders were treating the gulls at least some of the
time to fresh fish and other chum to keep them close. Birds far from their home

By now it seems a worthy topic as to whether an out-of-territory bird in cold

in case that would help see it on its way to wherever it finds more of its own

Because I know there’s still many folks who haven’t had the chance to chase the
Ross’s Gull, the bird continues as of 8:40am today! The bird is back under the
bridge. It was not seen before 8:40am, however, so some patience may be
required if it decides to do one of its notorious forays out of sight and south
of the bridge…

Good luck guys!

2021-11-28 Thread Brian Tennessen
The Ross's Gull was still there this afternoon, when I was there ~1 pm.
The bird did a nice flyby during my time there, after having been resting
along the WI shore for a while. Here is a photo I got, if interested.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/fisherkingbat/51711772493/in/dateposted-public/

I'm sure there are many other nice photos out there that have been taken by
others..

Thanks to those that spotted this Gull and the updates, a lifer for me and
many others I'm sure!

Minnesota birders,

A Ross's Gull has been seen both yesterday and today on Lake Red Rock,
southeast of Des Moines. Thought some folks on here might want to know.
Looks like about a 4-hour drive from the Twin Cities. If I had the time,
I'd make the trip myself.

You can find details and recent sightings on the Iowa Birds listserv

Folks who are interested in the Ross's Gull, today he was visible most of
the afternoon. Hundreds of birders from all over the country have been to
Yankton. SD to see the pink beauty. See the newspaper article at:

The weather should hold for the week so he will probably stay, as the
fishing is good for the gulls. He spends his time on the ice on Lake
Yankton, and feeds below the dam every hour or so. (see map and area photos

The Ross's Gull at Gavin's Point dam at Yankton SD was seen this morning at 9

I did the SD gull marathon yesterday. 14 species of gulls!

Also, there it seems there is a SECOND Ross's Gull in Nebraska, this one near

[mou-net] Ross's Gull IN SD/NE

2010-12-02 Thread douglas chapman
For those who may not be aware, the Ross's Gull found November 26 on the SD/NE
border at Gavin's POint Dam near Yankton SD, continues.

It is a truly beautiful bird that gives great views when it comes to feed.

There are also many Bonaparte's, and assorted other gulls. But little pink
shows up amongst them.

There is also a Great Black-backed Gull, a few Thayer's, and a Mew Gull.

Pierre has up to 9 BL Kittiwakes, a Little Gull and a Glaucous-winged Gull.
Also several Glaucous and Lesser Black-backed.

It is possible to get 15 gull species in one morning in SD right now!
