[mou-net] Townsend's Solitaire, Duluth Township
This morning there was a Townsend's Solitaire in Duluth Township along the West Knife River Road (CR 231), 0.7 mile west of the northern end of the Homestead Road (CR 42). It flew in from the east, so it would be worth checking the area around the Homestead Road, too. Most of the West Knife River Road in this area is lined with invasive buckthorn, which the solitaire was seen feeding on. Bohemian Waxwings were seen in this area earlier in the winter, but I have not heard any reports in the past three weeks. [mou-net] Townsend's Solitaire Duluth
Hi all, Tim Bates found a Townsend's Solitaire during the Duluth CBC yesterday (Tim is a Townsend's Solitaire/Varied Thrush magnet!) It was between 4059 and 4066 Nelson Rd on the south side feeding on sparse crabapples in front of a blue trailer home. The bird would also disappear for stretches back in the spruces and pines on the south side. Nelson Road is an E-W road between Howard Gnesen Rd and Arnold Rd north of Martin Rd (north of Duluth) Be aware that the blue mobile home is right near the road, so please respect the owners and don't walk on their land. Good luck! [mou-net] Townsend's Solitaire, Duluth
This morning (before the storm) I found a Townsend's Solitaire near the junction of London Road and Superior Street, Duluth. The bird was seen in front of the Yorkleigh apartment building and also across London Road near the pedestrian entrance to Leif Erickson Park. This is the same location where a solitaire was seen last January. -- Peder Svingen Duluth, MN Join or Leave mou-net:http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives:http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] Townsend's Solitaire (Duluth)
Found at about 1:00 p.m. near the Hartley Nature Center. It perched from several trees near the visitors' center before flying in the direction of the reservoir. There was also a small flock of White-winged crossbills which could be seen/heard near the parking area by the center.
