Likewise—lots of Goldeneyes near Wayzata Marine in Orono (~50ish), ~100s of
common mergansers (diving in groups) with a few loons nearby in Wayzata
downtown (near COV restaurant), and many common mergansers landing around the
point at Excelsior Commons Park at 15 min before sunset. (Nothing to report on
the Deephaven and Greenwood side of the lake as best as I could see…)

I just got home from a two hour trip around Minnetonka and saw a few Loons,
Bald Eagles, Kingfishers, Mallards, and 100's of Common Mergansers.
We pretty thoroughly covered the accessible shoreline, missing the
eastern-most side at Greenwood and Deephaven.

That would be amazing to see. Thanks for sharing, Steve. I saw a raft of
thousand+ years ago off a cliff overlooking Lake Superior in the UP. That image
is still with me today. It’s fascinating how they know how to do this.

Siskins started showing up here a week ago, but on Wednesday they arrived in
droves. Must be at least 40 - best siskin numbers I’ve had in years. Hope they
stay through the winter.

A few purple finches showed up with them, too. Junco numbers seem to be a bit
lower than normal, 25+, but I had a hawk hanging out here the first few weeks
of their arrival - they could have moved on.

I have a report that thousands of loons are staging on Lake Minnetonka. We
have a hoard of Pine Siskins at our feeders this morning. I haven't had a
view on how they were staging in the trees above the house to try to get a
handle on the numbers.
