RE: Re: [Mpls] Fun Neighborhood Places to Eat in Minneapolis
Good places to eat? You cannot miss Jakeeno's! Best veggie pizza in town. They knew me by name. And they have always been supportive of the neighborhoods. The first event I organized for Central they donated 24 pizzas. They delivered them at intervals so that they were always hot and fresh. I have not had the good fortune to find one I like as well here in Tampa. And my son (my baby boy turned 21 yesterday - proud mama) and I used to make our midnight runs to the White Castle on Lake Street. I was told they had WC in Florida once upon a time. I miss those. The ones in the freezer section at the grocery store are just not the same to me. Pamela, I had your back on the Jakeeno's pizza, but, unfortunately, you had to go and include White Castle on your list of loves. Sliders just don't do it for me ;-). I also happen to be an addict of the pho at Bona on Washington and Oak at the University. They have the best pho in town. They are another restaurant that is family owned and everyone remembers your name. Sort of like Cheers without the beer and Kirsty Allie. -Brandon Powderhorn Park -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Pamela Taylor Sent: Friday, July 12, 2002 8:43 AM To: Matt Mason; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Re: [Mpls] Fun Neighborhood Places to Eat in Minneapolis Good places to eat? I made the trek Northeast for lunch yesterday and found the Modern closed for renovation until next week. So, my collegue suggested the place on the corner. At first I thought he was referring to the bar next door (which would've been find by me), but we ended up at Erte, just across University. Wow. Very hip. Very yummy. Reasonably priced. It felt like going to Manhattan for lunch. -Cara Letofsky Seward loki anderson wrote: I also want to recommend The Modern Cafe and their unbelievably wonderful pot roast. Five stars easily. Whenever I'm working in the neighborhood ,and many times when I'm not, I'll head to Joey D's on 31st and 42nd St. So. for lunch. REAL Chicago Italian roast beef sandwiches smothered in juice and peppers. You can get them with cheese too but I've never dared. Great fries and very pleasant outdoor dining area included. You've got to endure tons of White Sox and Bears propaganda but it's worth it. They've lots of other Chicago eatery provender like hot dogs and pizza and I hear it's all good; I've just never been able to order anything but the sandwich. [Mpls] Fun Neighborhood Places to Eat in Minneapolis
Andy brought up a wonderful topic: Juicy Lucys. I happen to live about four blocks from the home of the Juicy Lucy (Matt's on 35th and Cedar Avenue), and I must say that Matt's is one of my favorite places to consume grease in the city. Last night I also had the pleasure of eating at the Chatterbox Pub. This place is fun, especially for those of you that grew up in the 80s. You can rent Atari games and play them while waiting for your food. You can also rent classic board games from the 80s and before. The pub is divided into two sides, a restaurant side and a bar side. You can order food in both places, and they have all kinds of fun things happening there. And, joy of joys, the Chatterbox is located just up 35th from Matt's. I believe it is on 22nd or 23rd and 35th. I must also put a plug in to those of you living in Northeast to check out Vo's Vietnamese just off Washington and NE Broadway Street (about a block from 807 for you school district fiends). Vo's has some of the best spring rolls and rice noodle salads in town (for those of you who are delighted by Vietnamese cuisine). I've been a faithful Vo's customer since it opens its doors in early 1995. If you stop by Vo's, and Vo is working, make sure to tell him that Brandon sent you. -Brandon Lacy Campos -Powderhorn Park ___ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls

Ahhh, I just KNEW if I waited long enough, Brandon and I would agree on something again! Vo's is fantastic. I used to live about a block away from it and the waitstaff used to be able to tell me what I was going to order as soon as I walked in the door (beef fried rice and chicken wings). It's located on the corner of Broadway and Adams NE. I also want to recommend The Modern Cafe and their unbelievably wonderful pot roast. Five stars easily. It's on 13th Ave and University Ave NE. I also want to recommend The Modern Cafe and their unbelievably wonderful pot roast. Five stars easily. It's on 13th Ave and University Ave NE. I second that recommendation, but hold off visiting for a few days. I was there last week only to discover they are closed for remodeling. They said they would reopen on the 16th or some similar date. Two of my favorite places are Golooney's East Coast Pizza Cafe on Hennepin and 24th(?) and Slice of New York on Nicollet near 24th. I love the sandwiches at Golooneys and the aroma at Slice of New York is mouthwatering.
