I did this from a windows computer so yes it is specific to windows for
now. I will do a setup from linux and then merge the two guides into
one document.

Will clean up the typos as they are spotted.

Eventually the user guide should contain everything needed to get a new
user started.

Thanks! Could you add that it is necessary to download and extract the source
and development environment too?
I assume the guide refers to the windows installer from IvankoB? Maybe the
download URLs should be listed too.
Is it OK to store the source in "C:\Program Files\msegui" directory? Has FPC
write access to that directory? Or are the units precompiled? If so the FPC
version must match exactly.
On page 2 'Click on the 2 dots (browse button)' should be '3 dots'.
There is a typo on page 7 "Click on the default.prj roject type."
Page 13 "Enter “btnOnExecute” in the text area. Now click on the program code
window or press F12." -> "Enter “btnOnExecute” in the text area. Now press
Enter twice.
Typo on Page 19: "You will be asked if you want to save your project chagnes."

Some time ago someone created windows setup programs for mse:
setup_mse_full.exe, setup_mse_compact.exe and setup_mse_mini.exe.

Who created these setup programs and what program did you use to create
them?

Thanks.

What happened? Probably README.TXT must be improved.
I think MSEide+MSEgui absolutely can be used by beginners. People who have
problems to work with MSEide+MSEgui normally know Delphi or Lazarus already
and don't find the familiar properties and concepts. Beginners without that
background accept and master MSEide+MSEgui quickly. MSEide+MSEgui could also
be used in schools if there would be documentation of good quality available.
On http://www.lazarusforum.de/ one can often read questions of pupils who
have to fight with Lazarus and constructs like strtoint(edit1.text) in
OnClick, label1.caption:= inttostr(var1) and the like because Lazarus has no
tintegeredit.onsetvalue and tintegerdisp.
What I always tell is that because MSEide+MSEgui is no commercial product like
Delphi I am not forced to please the first time buyers as a main goal, the
structure of MSEgui can be designed so that it is optimal for "power users"
too.

I wouldn't bother. That author clearly doesn't know anything. Lets see…

“This language is easy to learn programming techniques, but not to write
real programs.”

WTF?? In my 20 years of using Delphi and Free Pascal, I have worked on
small, medium and massive projects. One being for Lloyds of London (a
massive and very old reinsurance company) - a critical part of business
in the UK, moving millions of pounds around per day.

“Free Pascal v2.6.0: ...the inability to directly copy the code in
Notepad, use the syntax...”

Uh? OK, I guess he is comparing the FPC Text IDE. Well, does he know how
rediculous it is to copy and paste from the Windows Console to a Windows
GUI application - compared to Linux or Mac OS X. In that case - and
using his comparison style - the whole of Windows is rubbish too.

“And MSEide ("the form editor and source code") did not start. In short,
the normal behavior of a cross-platform application.”

Again, WTF? Yes I find MSEgui hard too - simply because I'm used to
Delphi or fpGUI. But doing "Project | New | From Template" and you have
the form designer and the code editor open. Clearly the author of that
article is rather brain-dead, or Bing Translator did a terrible job.

“Lazarus v1.0.2: converting Delphi 7 projects causes problems and you
need to manually fix things in Lazarus.”

hallo??? Delphi 7 using the VCL, which is tightly coupled to the Windows
Win32 API. Most Delphi applications also often call Windows API's
directly - bypassing the VCL. Obviously you will have to fix such code
when converting the project to a cross-platform toolkit.

“Lazarus v1.0.2: And it compiles slowly.”

Compared to what? The only compiler I know that compiles faster is
Delphi. EVERY OTHER COMPILER (C, C++, Java, Visual Basic etc) COMPILES
MUCH MUCH SLOWER!

This person clearly has such a bias against ANY Pascal language or
compiler. So why did he actually bother writing such a rubbish article.
He could simply of said "C++ rocks" and save us all the pain from
reading such rubbish.

  - Graeme -
