[mssms] 1610 update issue

2017-01-09 Thread Magnus Tveten
HI All,
In my Lab SCCM environment I seem to have an issue with the
1610 update replicating from the CAS(yes I know...it just ended up we needed a
CAS) to the primary server.

[cid:image001.png@01D26B4D.8415A2F0]
(yes I also realise that this happened quite some time ago now.. but the update
just popped up on prod recently as available and that made me think to check in
lab)

My problem is that there does not seem to be any way to make it retry The
Distmgr.log has nothing relevant to this anymore,
Docs seem to indicate I should be able to retry..
https://github.com/Microsoft/SCCMdocs/blob/master/sccm/core/servers/manage/install-in-console-updates.md#bkmk_retry
however there is no re-try.. only run Prerequisite check.
[cid:image003.png@01D26B4E.21A52D60]

Anyone seen this happen and have any ideas for a fix ?

[mssms] RE: [MDT-OSD] UDI not reading variables

2017-01-09 Thread Phillips, Coreland
Jeff:
Just for a point of reference, in our environment we use UDI and currently have
multiple forests/domains and ou's to choose from. Ultimately, we have the
technician type his or her credentials (which I have found does not work unless
formatted as UPN) after selecting a domain and OU. We still rely on the 'Apply
Network Settings' step and we have everything set to variables that should be
stored after entered into the UDI menus. This is the combo that works for us at
the moment.

I spent more time on this today. As I said, one issue was variables being
pulled from an errant customsettings.ini. With that resolved, what I see now
is an issue with the domain join variables related to UDI. If I use collection
variables or variables set in the task sequence, UDI gets "corrupt" values
(basically a string of random characters). If I set those domain join
variables in customsettings.ini, it works without issue.

Ultimately, I think I am going to do as David mentioned. . .rely on the apply
network settings step in the TS and not UDI for the domain join credentials.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Chris,

John mentioned how to do this from the ConfigMgr console:

"Can you set it up to enable automatic sample file submission in your
environment? That setting is in Assets and Compliance - Endpoint Protection
- Antimalware Policies, find your workstation policy. It's under advanced,
near the bottom named "Enable auto sample file submission to help, blah."
Changing the policy to Yes would get rid of the prompts as they'll go
automatically. That's what I did anyway.

If you have a different AV on your machines then just disable Windows Defender
via GPO. If you are using SCEP on Windows 8 or newer (Maybe just 10?), I don't
think you want to disable it as SCEP basically just leverages Windows Defender
and flips on the management switch.

2017-01-09 Thread Jeff Poling
I made some progress with this. My settings package had a default
customsettings.ini that was renamed to customsettings.ini.orig. For some
reason, that file was used instead of my customsettings.ini. Once I deleted
the rogue file, UDI gets the proper variables.

Now I have an issue with the OSDJoinAccount and OSDJoinPassword. UDI returns
“User credentials are invalid” even if I enter the correct creds manually in
the UDI Wizard.

definitely contain values as expected. The variables are being set using a
combination of collection variables and customsettings.ini.

I am kind of at a loss for how to determine what is happening and how to
correct it. Has anyone seen this? Any thoughts for how to resolve it?

Thanks!

Thanks Daniel.

I saw some older posts talking about not enabling QFE unless you have installed
patch Q279225. Something along the lines of inventory cycles taking a long
time to complete without the update? Was this just for older systems or is
this still valid for all?

We use QFE, but note it only shows security related patches, not all hotfixes
or 3rd party patches.

For all Microsoft patches you can tie into v_Update_ComplianceStatusAll.
Something I found in an old query below.

select comp.*, ui.BulletinID, ui.ArticleID, ui.Title
from v_Update_ComplianceStatusAll comp
join v_UpdateInfo ui on comp.CI_ID=ui.CI_ID
where ResourceID = (select resourceid from v_r_system where netbios_name0 =
'wkmj029cw9')
order by BulletinID, ArticleID, Title

For 3rd party patches, if it’s not in v_add_remove_programs or
v_gs_installed_software, no idea where you could find it.

What I am looking for is a report that lists ‘All’ software updates (patches)
installed on a machine and the date of installation.I’m unable to find this
information in the canned reports in SSRS. Does anyone know where I can find
this information to build a custom report or share if you already have?

I’ve also read info about a WMI class called Win32_QuickFixEngineering that
might be needed. Is this class necessary?

Thanks,

David

I remember running into the same thing in the new test environment MDT server,
but haven't had a chance to circle back to that project yet.

None of the pre-defined variables are being populated in UDI. For example, the
domain join account is pre-populated in a locked field. But it shows as a
series of random characters, not the correct domain join account. We also set
the computer name with a variable, and UDI shows the MININT name, not the
expected computer name derived from the asset tag.

I will check out the pausethanks

are you sure it's not reading the variables or if the variables are being
'reset' or 'rewritten', when i have problems like this i place a pause before
and after the step i need evaluated and use that as the basis for
troubleshooting the problem, here's a pause
step

1) It's not about money savings so if that's your only motivation, this is
the choice for you. Not saying it won't save you money as it certainly may, but
it also may not and that will be completely variable dependent upon many
different factors unique to your organization and usage anyway.

2) A CAS is *never* suitable for anything, on-prem or Azure. A bit tongue
in cheek there but if you actually need a CAS, look again, most folks who think
they need CAS don't. All roles are supported. When and where you should put
them on-prem or in Azure (or another cloud) is an architectural decision that
once again is scenario dependent.

3) If you mean do you need to have HTTPS enabled client-facing roles - DP,
MP, SUP - then the answer is no. The CMG proxies HTTPS client communication to
on-prem, HTTP client facing roles except for the DP which must be a cloud DP at
this point.

4) If there were an answer to a question like that then we wouldn't have
jobs and everything would just work perfectly.

Subject: [mssms] SCCM Server/Roles in Azure

Hi Experts,

Is anybody/team out there who is using SCCM roles in Azure...if so can you
share our experience please.

Especially on Cost front,

1) does it save more than what it costs internally in On-Prem data centers,

2) what roles are suitable to transfer like CAS, Primary, Secondary ...
while DP will mostly/always stay back in premises

3) With Azure, does still Cloud DP/IBCM DP roles still needed to present
Software, patch content to Internet clients

4) What works and what troubles in moving SCCM roles to Azure Sort of
known limitations and practical challenges

Thanks, Vasu
