AW: [mssms] RE: Web remote tools

2013-05-17 Thread Craig Andrew (OIZ)
Ok, thanks. What i meant is that the role-based model is not implemented...
When the poweruser only has access to remote certain pcs, depending on OU for
example, then I can manage this with the role-based access, security scopes,
and collections so that the poweruser only sees certain pcs to remote to, in
the console. With the standalone exe you have to configure all this with AD
groups.

Remote Control sessions launched from standalone .EXE are still logged by the
client in the Remote Control Activity status messages, and the permissions are
still driven by the ConfigMgr Remote Control Users group membership on the
target machine.

You can use the remote tools standalone, no need to run it through the console.

Subject: AW: [mssms] RE: Web remote tools

I wanted to use the console but the helpdesk guys felt it was too much for
powerusers, i.e. they can see all sorts of nodes and folders which of course
are empty when tied down to security roles. So the problem is that although
they could only see and use the objects they are supposed to, the extra nodes
and appearance of folders etc confused them.

Here, I have some powerusers who just need to use the remote tools, but they
see the whole console structure. Any way to customize this? I know you can't
secure folders which scopes and roles, but nodes? Any customized consoles out
there? Or are my security roles wrong?

Thanks

Yes, I know that's an option. Just thought it would be easier to point folks to
a web page rather than install the console. Looking like the console will be
our method, though.

Why not just setup some security scopes with your roles and lock down the sccm
environment so your techs can use the actual console. We used to use the web
remote tools but have now moved to this model. My guys can only add users and
computer's to collections and look at some of the monitoring functions.

I agree, you've created a very nice looking (and I assume functioning) web tool
there. Can't wait for you to release it!

For a while I have creating a html5 web frontend that fully support rbac and
the application model that I have been planning to release to the public. It is
much more feature rich that Ron's older tool but still very simple. Internally
it has been working well and our guys seem to enjoy it. Once I have the time,
the last few bugs will be fixed and I will release it to all, for free.

From what I've read, the good ole web remote tools from Ron Crumbaker may not
work so well with CM2012. Just curious if anyone has an alternative, or has
altered the old one to work in the new environment. We really loved having
this so our service desk employees could push software and remote control.
