Both are good because both make a backup of the DB which is the only true thing
that matter as far as ConfigMgr goes.

The asterisk for cd.latest is because is quite easy to add this if you SQL
Server and site server are co-located:

not, it’s just a folder that your enterprise backup solution can easily backup
just like the other necessary folders and files including the SQL backup files
themselves.
