Re: Enschede

2000-05-15 Thread J. Lautenbag

how is the situation in Enschede after the explosion of the fireworks
factory?

I can't tell much about it, I was with my parents during the explosion.
Today I
returned to my room, a few kilometers west from the fireworks site. I've
heard
some stories, but I haven't met people who were in the middle of the
disaster
area. I only know the things I've seen on tv...

My 8245 is still alive anyway!

Re: Slot Expander Questions

1999-09-01 Thread J. Lautenbag

SCC can be put in the subslot but it won't be supported by most cracks.

Unless you use the SCC detection program by Jasper Lautenbag that can be
downloaded from my homepage. (See some previous mail.) I succeeded to let
almost every crack I have work with the SCC in a subslot. (Except Kings
VALLEY
II, MSX2 version.)

Well, because all (?) cracks use primary slotswitching when they play
music over the SCC it won't work if you have your memory and the SCC
in one slotexpander. You will have to rewrite the crack for that.

My little program helps with one thing: if you have your SCC in the
slotexpander its subslot is selected so you can use it if it were
in a primary slot. After running it, most cracks should run fine.
As long as you have your memory in another primary slot that is.

About that KV2, can you mail it to me Manuel, maybe I can take a
look at it?

Re: MSX in Space

1999-07-23 Thread J. Lautenbag

I got the opportunitie to capture an old video fragment into a
giantestique AVI file.
The AVI itself is 80 megabyte, the zipfile you can download is 53
megabytes

The fragment is the shot in the MIR where,at the right-bottom, you can
see the MSX Sony floating by.

Maybe you can try a lower resolution and framerate first.
I think 87 meg is quite a lot for those 15 seconds or so.
Nice to see it though...

Turbo Pascal and keybuffering

1999-07-19 Thread J. Lautenbag

Hi,

I've made a menuprogram in Turbo Pascal which has
to execute the game selected from the menu.

I put the commandline in the keyboardbuffer (0FBF0H),
but when I exit my program the first three characters
are gone! And when I add an extra WriteLn at the end
of my program all characters are gone!

Does anybody know if TP 3.3 programs use an internal
keybuffer? Or does dos1 do this? And how to solve
the problem?

I know I can use Execute, but that doesn't work if I
want to add commandline parameters.

Amiga mouse and MSX

1999-07-06 Thread J. Lautenbag

In the Dutch magazine MSX Mozaik #33 there is an article
about connecting a Commodore 64 mouse to a MSX. You have
to change the wires of button 2, ground and +5V to get
it working.

When I got an Amiga mouse I thought "hey, this is
Commodore too, let's modify it into a MSX mouse!"
So I made the changes, but without success. The only
thing that works are the mousebuttons (so +5V, ground
etc are correct), but moving the mouse gives strange
results...

Does anybody know if it's possible to use an Amiga mouse
on MSX and what changes need to be made?

Re: Amiga mouse and MSX

1999-07-06 Thread J. Lautenbag

Amiga and MSX-mouses are indeed not compatible.
I believe the X/Y-movement is, just like on PC, delivered to the PC in an
analog signal, and not a digital signal.

Too bad... :-(

Anyway, thanks for your explanation.

Re: Guardic practice mode

I may be very well mistaken, but if
I remember well, you should tap
left-right-left-right a few times
until an extra menu appears. I hope
it works for you. It worked for me,
but I don't remember how... =)

Your memory works very good. After just six keystrokes
(L-R-L-R-L-R) the practice mode appears. Thanx!

P.S. Somebody knows the sound test?

Re: Announcing the first public release of UZIX

1999-07-01 Thread J. Lautenbag

Anyway. There is no reason for UZIX hanging up because you have
512k RAM or more.

It works fine on my Philips 8245 with 128K and with 512K. Nice
to see some unix on the screen, but it's very slow. Even ls
may take up to one minute before displaying some results!

But it really is a very nice project!

Re: MegaRAM

this MegaRam-module wasmade before the MSX2 was released???

Sure! It was created exactly after the born of Nemesis I.

Ehhh... Nemesis I says (C) 1986, my 8235/00 says (C) 1985, so
MSX2 is older than Nemesis I! And if that's true, the memory
mapper is older than your Megaram...

Re: Memory...

1999-02-10 Thread J. Lautenbag

In MSX INFO BLAD Hans van Oranje wrote how to use SIMMs as MSX-RAM...
So I guess it depends on the price of SIMMs and the parts used...

Willem Cazander told me this design was not optimal, but I guess the
design
he was talking about is a little more expensive...

Are those schematics online somewhere? Or can somebody mail them to me?
Second hand SIMM's aren't that expensive...

Re: Counting

By the way, although in "real life" most things are (unfortunately)
numbered from 1, building stories are numbered from 0. But somehow floor
zero is given a special name (ground floor or something like that).

You're wrong. In English, the ground floor is the first floor. Only
in Dutch you start counting at zero! :-)

MSX Connect

1999-02-09 Thread J. Lautenbag

Hi all!

The last few days I've seen some discussions about connecting
an MSX to your PC or connecting two MSX's. This last option
should be done by using the joystick ports. But this has already
been done. The program is called MSX-Connect. The first MSX becomes
the master, the second one becomes the slave. When installed, the
master will have access to the drives of the slave.

You can find the program at one of the Millenium cd's (if you
have them). The cable is connected to the second joystick port and
it connects pin 1 to pin 6, 2-7, 3-8, 6-1, 7-2, 8-3 and 9-9.

Maybe disassembling this piece of software will help?

8235/00 and 8235/20

1999-02-09 Thread J. Lautenbag

Ah, the famous /20-series... Can anybody tell me the difference between
the
VG8235 and the VG8235/20???

The 8235/00 has basic version 2.0 (1985) and the 8235/20 has basic version
2.1 (1986).
I don't know the exact differences between these two basic versions, but if
I remember correct,
the 2.1-basic has a larger internal ramdisk (CALL MEMINI).

My brother and I finished this game in the 2 player mode but we were
little bit surprised there was no end-demo or something like that.

When I played it alone I thought there was one but it can also be
"een hersenspinsel" (don't know the English word)

You can start the enddemo by entering the password 'MITAIYOENDDEMO'.
