RE: Web Server
Title: RE: Web Server Shall it be possible in the future to use our beloved MSX machines as webservers for usage like the 'MSX SERVER'? Of course. Using a MSX as Web Server is just one of the many applications you can do using TCP/IP and UZIX. It would be nice if someone could design a NIC for msx... Re: Enschede
how is the situation in Enschede after the explosion of the fireworks factory? I can't tell much about it, I was with my parents during the explosion. Today I returned to my room, a few kilometers west from the fireworks site. I've heard some stories, but I haven't met people who were in the middle of the disaster area. I only know the things I've seen on tv... Same goes for me. However I did spoke to a friend today, who's house WAS in the middle off the explosion. Fortunately he and his roommates wered at home during the accident. Another friend of mine lost all his windows and got a few scratches from the flying glass. He is oke, but very shocked. Re: Interrupt modes?? (coding question)
Though, when you build such a device you should make surethat you only have one such device in your computer. If you put a second one in the second cartridge slot for example, you will get bus conflicts if they generate an interrupt at the same time... Or to be more precise, if theyboth generate an interrupt before the Z80 acknowledges it (the interrupt doesnot get acknowledged as long as the Z80 is in DI mode...)IMO this is not completely true. I found the device at the end of this email in a book about Z80 assembler. It has 4 switches each combined with aR-S flipflop (based on 2 NAND ports). Whenswitch s0 is pressed, input 0 of the 8to3 encoder (74148) becomes low. Outputs A, B and C become high. OE' becomes low and this triggers the J-K flipflop (74LS73). Q' becomes low and thus INT' also becomes low and a interrupt is requested. When the Z80 acknowledges it ( by lowering M1' and IORQ' ), the busdriver (74367) puts the data on the bus (in this case FEh) and the J-K flipflop is reset. s0 - interrupt FE s1- interrupt FC s2- interrupt FA s3-interrupt F8 Each switch can thus execute a different interruptroutine. A program example: LD HL, ADRES_ROUTINE1 LD 1BFE, HL ;to int. vector FEh LD HL, ADRES_ROUTINE2 LD 1BFC, HL ;to int. vector FCh LD HL, ADRES_ROUTINE3 LD 1BFA, HL ;to int. vector FAh LD HL, ADRES_ROUTINE4 LD 1BF8, HL ;to int. vector F8h IM 2 ; interrupt mode 2 LD A, 1B ; MSB of int. vector table LD I,A ; Put it in int. register DISCLAIMER: I didn't test the circuit, it neitheris specificly designed for a MSX. But I think it should work. Re: (Silly) question about MSX on PC
Hello, If I am right, this is not the question. He didn't want to emulate his interface, he wanted to use his harddisk (the partition, not an image on it) as a harddisk which can be used in the emulator. The CJS msx-emu works this way. At startup you tell the emu which pc-drive/directory it should use for drive a and which for drive b. It even supports directory changing. This is one of the reasons I used it a lot. The emu unfortunately doesn't work under Win98, so I bought a real msx2. To bad CJS never finished the emu, because it was very fast and easy to use. Question about Konami games
Hello In some of the 16k konami games I have (.bin format) the graphics on the top of the screen are corrupted. There is a green-yellow striped block. When I reset my MSX2 the game restarts and then the graphics are normal. Does anyone know what causes this corruption and what I can do about it, besides resetting the MSX? Also I find it rather anoying that some of the games restart after resetting. I solved this by changing AB at the beginning of the game into AA with diskedit. Re: Flaw in the JoyNet specification...
*Sigh* this isn't the most clear discussion I heard of... Definitely not. First, the one is wrong, then the other is good, but it is wrong... Rhaaa!!! Sorry about this, but when Werner mentioned this problem, I suggested something because I thought it to be logical. When I made the cable, I found out I was wrong. So I guess only the PC (DB25 /m)-layout has to be changed at my page, eh? That's correct. It should state: 13-1 and 12-2. But is this the good change??? Is the error in the DB25-scheme or in the DB5-scheme? I hope it is the last one, for then I don't need to redraw the figure... The figure is correct. Greetings Richard MSX Mailinglist. Re: Laurens, help... Flaw in the JoyNet specification...
Richard states that the correct is the DIN5 (1-13 and 2-12). In my first mail in only stated, that its not correct to connect MSX pins 1-3 (which are inputs only) to PC pin 10,12,13 (which are also inputs only) and to connect MSX pins 6-8 (outputs) to PC pins 2-4 (also outputs). So i just swapped the output pins on the PC with the input pins. I never noticed the possible mixup between pins 12 and 13. After studing the DATAX page, I think (as mentioned in my previous mail) the correct version is RECV DIN5 (1-12, 2-13). This because SEND DIN5 (1-2, 2-3). Therefore (6-13 and 7-12) are correct on my direct cable. I think Richard did make a PC cable, otherwise he wouldn't state that. But was he the only one ? Who have already made a PC JoyNet cable ? I made a PC cable, but not based on the joynet specification. The cable I build goes from PC-lpt to both MSX-joystick and MSX-lpt, but is similar to half a joynet-cable. It can only receive data from the PC and it now only has two wires from PC to MSX and one from MSX to PC. I'm going to expand it to 5 wires PC to MSX and 5 wires MSX to PC. This way I should be able to transfer data at high speeds in both ways, 4 bits at a time. Greetings Richard MSX Mailinglist. Re: Laurens, help... Flaw in the JoyNet specification...
After studing the DATAX page, I think (as mentioned in my previous mail) the correct version is RECV DIN5 (1-12, 2-13). I was wrong!!! Tonight a made the 10 wires cable I spoke of earlier and wrote the protocol for the msx (assembler) and the pc (c++). When I was debugging them I found out something was wrong. I have the following connection MSX-lpt PC-lpt 2 (d0) to 10 3 (d1) to 11 4 (d2) to 12 5 (d3) to 13 I got the following values: write on msx-lpt read on PC-lpt (after correcting the inverted pin 11) 0001 (1) 0100 0010 (2) 1000 0100 (4) 0010 1000 (8) 0001 In my case I should connect 2-13, 3-12, 4-10 and 5-11. Thus in with joynet, joystick pin 1 should go to pc-lpt pin 13 and joystick pin 2 should go to pc-lpt pin 12. PC (DB25 /m) pin layout: 2 - SEND pin 1 3 - SEND pin 2 4 - RECV pin 3 xxx - nc 10 - SEND pin 3 11 - nc 12 - RECV pin 2 13 - RECV pin 1 xxx - nc 18-25 - SEND / RECV pin 5 RECV (DIN5 180 /f) pin layout: 1 - PC pin 13 2 - PC pin 12 3 - PC pin 4 4 - nc 5 - PC pin 18-25 Greetings Richard MSX Mailinglist. Re: Some questions
2/ Can I use a PC memories (EDO) on MSX (or with an interface...) According to an article from Hans Oranje in MSX-Info blad it is possible to use PC memory ( 30 pins 1Mb) in your MSX2. However I tried to build it and it didn't work (gr). I haven't yet discovered why. But because I used 5 metres of cable to connect all the IC's on the mainboard to the 1 Mb SIMM, it is difficult to locate the error. I can't undo the changes because the original memory got broken when I tried to get it out and I can buy new memory because it is taken out of the market.
