[MSX] About TR-GT / Sobre TR-GT
This is a multilanguage e-mail (Portuguese/English). See portuguese text at end. Este é um e-mail multilingual (Português/Inglês). Veja o texto em português no final. ENGLISH Hello, Everybody I got one TR-GT about few days ago, and I want to make some modifications on it. First of all, I want to know how does the MSX-VIEW rom's work. I want to change it to another ROM, with other programs, it's just as easy as inhibit it and hook up another ROM? Or it is a Mapped ROM or anything weird? I want to put another flat cable, using the second floppy pins on MoBo... Can I put one connector at back of tr? There is a way to change the slot of the Floppy Interface? I don't like to use another floppy interface only to make the Hard Disk as C: and D:. I want to know more about it, like the use of Graph, Kanji, Kana, etc... Where can I find more specific info? About the expansion to 1MB, I've heard that it doesn't work seamlessly... it's correct? There is another way to expand the internal memory? Also I am looking for other ways to expand it, if you have an Idea... tell me! I don't like to use another floppy interface only to make the Hard Disk as C: and D:. On MSX, internal floppy drives are always the last ones, after the cartridge interfaces. So if you add a harddrive with 4 partitions, floppy will be E: and F:... I dont think changing the slot of the DiskROM is a good idea. It might break some stuff which expects the DiskROM in slot 3, and besides, the reason for modifying that seems a bit silly anyway, if you ask me :). This is how it works on MSX, if you want the PC drive assignments, get a PC ;p. I want to know more about it, like the use of Graph, Kanji, Kana, etc... Where can I find more specific info? That one I know... :). From Basic, type _KANJI0, _KANJI1, _KANJI2 or _KANJI3 to go to one of the kanij modes with different resolutions (I believe Kanji3 was highest). Go back to the 'normal' screenmode by typing _ANK. While in a kanji mode, you can enter kana by toggling the Kana key (like CODE on a European computer). Press CTRL-SPACE to make the IME bar appear, in which you can type kana, or romaji which will turn into kana, and combine those into kanji using a built-in dictionary (cycle through options using SPACE, I believe). About the expansion to 1MB, I've heard that it doesn't work seamlessly... it's correct? There is another way to expand the internal memory? Also I am looking for other ways to expand it, if you have an Idea... tell me! A compact flash interface is always a good expansion :). Bye! ~Grauw -- Ushiko-san! This is how it works on MSX, if you want the PC drive assignments, get a PC ;p. I know the way the thing are, but I always had in my brazilian MSX's the following structure: One Floppy Disk Interface (as A: and B:), and one IDE interface (as C: and so on). I Have 5 PCs in home, and I have also 15 MSX 1 here, along with MSX 2.0, 2+, TR-GT ... I want it not because it's like the PC order, but because it's easier to deal with. just it. Or it is a Mapped ROM or anything weird? The turboR GT firmware is a mapped rom with 8kB pages. You can check the openMSX source-code for details about how it works and how it is layed out. About the expansion to 1MB, I've heard that it doesn't work seamlessly... it's correct? There is another way to expand the internal memory? It doesn't work with non-standard software (that is, software that reads the mapper I/O ports), but it has no problem with MSX-DOS2 programs (and other correctly written software). On non-standard software only 512kB is visible. Greetz, Patriek ___ MSX mailing list (msx@stack.nl) Info page: http://lists.stack.nl/mailman/listinfo/msx

While not in a Kanji mode, you can toggle kana/ascii as well with the kana key, with shift-kana you can even type romaji... and with capslock on it's even possible to type katakana in stead of hiragana. And in any Kanji mode (IME bar) you can cycle through options using the cursor keys. RETURN will output the contents of the bar to the screen. Then you can use the function keys in the IME bar, toggling between katakana and hiragana and narrow and wide script for both of them. Standard: a process involving setting a byte in all mapper pages and iterating through them until you see repetition of a number you wrote earlier (or something similar). Non-standard: something involving reading out one of the I/O ports #FC-#FF. ~Grauw -- Ushiko-san!
