Re: I think Nishi wants to see kick ass stuff!

2001-04-09 Thread Rieks W. Torringa

Hey,

Might be an idea to create a video, containing screen shots, information,
and live action of various programs and games. If there's someone able and
willing to create a semi-professional video presenting many European
software, accompanied by English spoken text and ofcourse the original BGM's
(a fitting remix, maybe?), this video can be presented to Nishi. Besides,
many other MSX-users might be interested in obtaining a copy of this video.

Oh, we've been quiet for about four years now, but please don't forget about
Sargon-productions like Defender and Guide through Gameworld (especially
#2). Sargon officially still exists, although we don't do much anymore
lately.

Rieks.

the sound but it ain't exactly state of the art anymore...)

 Moonsound: some cool demo/musicdisk? Suggestions?
"The Sea" by Wolf. :) Picture this: Muzax 3 on OPL4... only much, much

Or maybe I will whip something up, but I don't think anybody's impressed by

Okay, reason 2 is the reason why I am not mailing him.

rest too of course.

And lets not forget the very famous fastcopy program :-)

Nah! Let's skip that one. It's nice, but not cool to show.

Right. Then those should definately be shown. But to show the hardware, also
software is needed. Any ideas for GFX9000? Maybe the best thing is to show
Video9000 working with it, in combination with a camera...
Moonsound: some cool demo/musicdisk? Suggestions?
IDE: suggestions? Just run games from it?
Slotexpanders: We could use one to connect all hardware mentioned above,
including FM PAC, Music MOdule, etc.

really interesting. (A firewire or USB i/f

You have a point there. This triggered me to show the soft at first. But
shwoing the developed hardware can give an impression of the Dutch MSX
activities though.

And I don't think that showing anyone software from a long
past(5 years == eternity in the IT business) will
impress anyone. OTOH, if someone *really* wants to

Depends if the soft is impressive: it WILL run on a 15 year old MSX2, most of
it!

show Nishi 'RubyJade' or 'EXOR', I'm of course
the last to complain :-P

Har har! :-) It's nice soft, but I would vote to show those, since it's not

interessting to show too, they at least take a short time to show. :-)

Ruud v/d Moosdijk said:
From what I understood they want our ideas, not our soft/hardware. You
can't hire a booth to show our ideas...no booth would be big enough. :)

That's the idea for Sunday. But not for Saturday, as far as I know.

Hmmm, still no reactions from the people accompanying Nishi or the organizers
of Tilburg. IF something is to be organized, it shouldn't take too long to
start, otherwise it's too late. Tilburg is in 2 1/2 weeks!

Another thing: what can we do to attract more visitors to Tilburg? I guess
Nishi can be used as a way to do this. We would need some attention from
(local) newspapers, computer magazines, web news services or other media.

Did someone think about this?

Tilburg anyway.

SOmeone should organize this! I think it's very important for
him to get a good picture of the Dutch (ex-) MSX scene.

  What do you think?

I think a certain someone called Manuel *just* volunteered :-)

I'm not volunteering yet. I suggest the organizers of Tilburg (or the Dutch
people who are accompanying the Japanese) should decide what is best. They
know Nishi's program, so they can decide where and how (maybe even what).

If they ask me to organise it, I will consider it. I'm not sure if I have the
time though. It also depends on the things mentioned below. (Some options take
more time to organize or to prepare!) It could help to let more than one
person organise it.

Any organiser would need:
- your suggestions about things to show
- cooperation of the authors (or copyrightholders) of the products: they
should provide copy of the software, which will be returned of course
- of course full cooperation of the organisers (but I already mentioned that),
also meaning space to demonstrate (beamer? sound amplifier?)including the
necessary hardware. I'm not hiring a booth.
- The best thing would be to have the authors of the software showing things.
They know the best what their stuff is capable of. (e.g. MST's Tracer is
great, but I never use it, so I can't demonstrate it properly.)

Any more ideas?

An additional set of things that could be shown: IDE interface, Compass,
Video9000, ...

Hummm... remember that japanese thinking is maybe a little different
than european one.

In the last Barcelona meeting I spoke a little with Yokoi about Compass.
"It would be nice if ASCII or someone make compilers with the look of
Compass!", I said. "Compass? What? Ah well, we will take a look to this
program when someone translates it to japanese", was te answer.

And about KPI Ball, that nice Pang clone, Yokoi said: "Well, this is in
fact nothing new. It exists in other machines since long time ago. It
would not have any success in Japan".

So, before preparing an "impressive soft" demonstration, please think it

I agree. Instead of WHAT you're going to show, think about HOW you're
going to present it. They will be more impressed if things are done in a
serious and (pseudo-)professional way than if things are presented like
amateur productions (even if they are).
