RE: IDE interface not detected
I bought a IDE too at Tilburg (with RS232 interface) and it works. Try to phone Rob Hiep, addresses etc at www.msx.ch -Original Message- From: eMeSiX [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 02 May 2001 22:47 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: IDE interface not detected Your error search method is fine: isolate components and the remaining part must be in error. (Occams razor for the philosophical minded). Since the IDE interface works (can you use IDEfload on the other MSX?) it must be your MSX :( Do other cartridges still work in the slot? Is there dirt on the connectors of the slot? Since it has been working and then suddenly stopped it might be that the connector was corroded or otherwise stopped making good contact. Cleaning might help. I bougt a ide interface at tilburg 2001 but when i came home i didn't work now i am trying to contact somebody butt no reply :-(( -- For info, see http://www.stack.nl/~wynke/MSX/listinfo.html -- For info, see http://www.stack.nl/~wynke/MSX/listinfo.html
Re: IDE interface not detected
From more experiments, I found a clue. A R_O_M_ cartridge is not accessed. So my intermediate conclusion is that CS1/2/12 signal(s) is/are not functional (memory mapper cartridge works!). Maybe the IDE interface uses any of those signals...? Yes, the IDE-interface uses memory-mapped I/O, and not the I/O ports like other devices. So if ROMs don't work, the IDE-interface won't work either. And even if it used 'normal' I/O ports, it still wouldn't have worked because the software drivers are also in ROM. So I suggest you get your MSX fixed... But!!! I know how you feel. (does that help?) ~Grauw -- For info, see http://www.stack.nl/~wynke/MSX/listinfo.html
Re: IDE interface not detected
Maybe some broken program accidentally wiped the FlashROM. Try to re-flash the IDE BIOS. Not possible. IDEFLOAD cannot detect the IDE interface. then you have to select the apropriate slotnumber yourself (with the cursorkeys); (when the flashrom is completely erased, the computer can't detect it; this is normal) However, it seems to me that your MSX is broken (or not really MSX compatible ?!) because it doesn't support the /CS1 signal on the cartridgeconnector which is used by the IDE interface when reading the ROM contents. This also explains why some games in ROM won't run on your machine... Success with the repair :-/ Jon Thanks for your attention. Greetings from The Got Still Crazy, - Jun. * As I already mentioned, it is detected on another MSX2 machine. -- For info, see http://www.stack.nl/~wynke/MSX/listinfo.html -- For info, see http://www.stack.nl/~wynke/MSX/listinfo.html

IDE interface not detected
Hi, Suddenly, yes, suddenly, my pretty Sunrise ATA-IDE interface does not work on my lovely MSX2+(Sony XV) :( No initial message is displayed. It looks like that the interface is not detected. The strange thing is that it is detected(initial message is displayed) on another MSX2 machine(Daewoo). I did several tests to solve the problem. - I checked power: ok - I changed the slot: the same result. Other cartridge works fine even in the same slot on which the IDE interface does not work. - I dumped the content of the area occupied by the IDE interface: All are filled with FFh. What's wrong? Any clue? The IDE interface uses special signals that other cartridges seldom use? Greets from The Got Crazy, - Jun. -- For info, see http://www.stack.nl/~wynke/MSX/listinfo.html
