Wondering why the name for this type would be in French? Of course in
your example of Chopin they were named in French, but plenty of other
composers wrote works called Study, Estudio ...
There may be some non-French composers, e.g. Villa-Lobos, presumably a
Portuguese-speaker, who wrote works generally referred to as Etude, but
 it is not always so.

A good amount of Spanish composers also did so (while others,
admittedly, used Study). But I mostly went with Étude because that's
what the English Wikipedia defaults to (including Study (music)
redirecting to Étude). I'd be also happy with Study if people prefer
that, not an issue for me.

So, what do people prefer here, Study or Étude? It's ready for RFV,
except that I need to know what name to use! :)

All other work types are in English, aren't they (except for those
which are almost exclusively used in one language)? If so I suggest
that for consistency's sake we stick to English.

I much prefer étude, with or without the accent. I am not a native speaker,
but as far as I know, the word is commonly used in English as well.

Another practical reason to keep etude is that the word and its variants
are used in many -- if not most -- languages (Russian, German, Estonian,
Swedish, Czech, Polish, Norwegian, Serbian, my native Hungarian, etc.),
speakers of which may not be familiar with the meaning of the French word.
They would instantly recognize etude but not necessarily study.

I prefer étude since that's what Wikipedia uses.

Étude is in my Oxford English Dictionary. :)

Ok. You probably saw I am French myself, so I won't fight for the
English word ;-)
