To me, "venue" is a generic term that covers pretty much anywhere music
might be played for an audience (unless there's an audience in the
studio during recording, I guess). It sounds like you're thinking of
"venue" as being specifically clubs and theatres and those sorts of
purpose-built places.

I'm not sure finer granularity would improve what we already have.

Re: [mb-style] Pre-RFC: Make instruments entities

2014-01-01 Thread Ben Ockmore
I still think that similar systems should be used for Genres and
Instruments (seeing as they're both tree-based systems), so I'd like to
wait until the developer decide on how they'll tackle Genres before
anything happens with instruments.

What I'd like to see if both Instruments and Genres as entities, which
aren't created by a formal "add" process, but are formed from tags/words
entered by users - a "bottom-up" approach, where user input decides what
instruments and genres should be in the system. I've written this down
here, and we talked about it a little at the last summit, but didn't agree
on anything:

Re: [mb-style] RFC STYLE-279: Add "Place of Worship" as place type

2014-01-01 Thread Ben Ockmore
Is "Place of Worship" generic enough? Some religions don't worship a deity
- in this case they'd just be "Religious Buildings" (eg. Buddhism). Perhaps
"Community Building" would work too, for non-religious buildings which are
considered important locally?

Would Nippon Budokan fall under this classification even though it’s hardly
ever used for sports nowadays?

I seem to remember seeing a recording of THE ALFEE performing at the church on

Good idea, a "members of group performed" attribute would be much better, I
believe there would be much less chances of it being misused.

Yes, please make this go away.

I'm not sure the situation Frederic describes needs fixing anymore, since
different arrangements are different works now?
That said, maybe there should be a "members of group performed" attribute,
for situations where the performers are credited in that way.

And a happy new year to all of you.
