Re: [mb-style] RFC STYLE-163: deprecate [dialogue] artist
Nikki-3 wrote The current guideline gives us a way to mark non-music tracks on what is otherwise a music release, which will be lost if this passes. I find that useful and I'd be interested in knowing how you'd suggest I filter out those tracks if this were to pass. I've used it and seen other people use it for tracks which contain bits of conversation (often on live releases, but not always) which are not credited to anyone at all on the release. Since we're talking about artist credits here and no artists are credited, I think [dialogue] works perfectly well for these... I rather see this as a misuse of the artist field which dishonours the database schema. Should we also have artists like [noise], [narration], [animal sounds] etc? Should not we rather use the annotation for this or add a new attribute to the recording? - Václav Brožík / pabouk -- View this message in context: http://musicbrainz.1054305.n4.nabble.com/RFC-STYLE-163-deprecate-dialogue-artist-tp4644968p4645198.html Sent from the MusicBrainz - Style mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ MusicBrainz-style mailing list MusicBrainz-style@lists.musicbrainz.org http://lists.musicbrainz.org/mailman/listinfo/musicbrainz-style

Re: [mb-style] RFC STYLE-163: deprecate [dialogue] artist
I think this proposal goes a bit too far. It doesn't seem to take into account the non-soundtrack usages of [dialogue] and seems to imply that we should invent artist credits. The current guideline gives us a way to mark non-music tracks on what is otherwise a music release, which will be lost if this passes. I find that useful and I'd be interested in knowing how you'd suggest I filter out those tracks if this were to pass. Since we're talking about artist credits here and no artists are credited, I think [dialogue] works perfectly well for these. If we can figure out who is talking, then we already have relationships to capture that information, we don't need to invent artist credits for it. I would be less opposed to changing it so that it's only used for uncredited tracks and if the track is actually credited to someone, they go in the artist credit, but I don't see any need to get rid of [dialogue] entirely and I don't see any benefit to merging it into [unknown] either.
