Problems after upgrade to 1.2.5 on linux machine

2000-12-09 Thread David Alban

Greetings,

So... I finally upgraded. :-) No problems on my irix box. However,
there are a few problems with the new version on my friend's linux
box.  Version info is:

  Mutt 1.2.5i (2000-07-28)
  Copyright (C) 1996-2000 Michael R. Elkins and others.
  Mutt comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type `mutt -vv'.
  Mutt is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
  under certain conditions; type `mutt -vv' for details.

  System: Linux 2.0.32 [using ncurses 1.9.9e]
  Compile options:
  -DOMAIN
  -DEBUG
  -HOMESPOOL  +USE_SETGID  +USE_DOTLOCK  +USE_FCNTL  -USE_FLOCK
  -USE_IMAP  -USE_GSS  -USE_SSL  -USE_POP  +HAVE_REGCOMP  -USE_GNU_REGEX
  +HAVE_COLOR  +HAVE_PGP  -BUFFY_SIZE -EXACT_ADDRESS  +ENABLE_NLS
  SENDMAIL="/usr/sbin/sendmail"
  MAILPATH="/var/spool/mail"
  SHAREDIR="/home/alban/lib/mutt"
  SYSCONFDIR="/home/alban/etc"
  ISPELL="/usr/bin/ispell"
  To contact the developers, please mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED].
  To report a bug, please use the muttbug utility.

I did:

  $ ./configure --prefix=$HOME
  $ make
  $ make install

Problem #1:

Every time I invoke mutt, it seems to instantly and persistently
redefine my terminal window characteristics as if I had a 24-line
screen (I use 80x40 xterm windows, with TERM=xterm). So whether I
invoke a shell-escaped command or simply read a message with less(1)
(which I use as my pager in mutt), the output or message is messed
up. When I exit mutt, the display is still in 24-line mode until I
execute "reset", which allows me again to use my full 40 lines.

Problem #2:

If I execute "mutt -p", highlight a postponed message and hit ENTER
to select it, it dumps core with:

  Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I experience neither of these problems with 0.95.4:

  Mutt 0.95.4us (1999-03-03)
  Copyright (C) 1996-8 Michael R. Elkins and others.
  Mutt comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type `mutt -vv'.
  Mutt is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
  under certain conditions; type `mutt -vv' for details.

  System: Linux 2.0.32 [using slang 10202]
  Compile options:
  -DOMAIN
  -HOMESPOOL  -USE_SETGID  -USE_DOTLOCK  +USE_FCNTL  -USE_FLOCK
  +USE_IMAP  +USE_POP  +HAVE_REGCOMP  -USE_GNU_REGEX  +HAVE_COLOR
  -BUFFY_SIZE
  -EXACT_ADDRESS  +ENABLE_NLS
  SENDMAIL="/usr/sbin/sendmail"
  MAILPATH="/var/spool/mail"
  SHAREDIR="/etc"
  SYSCONFDIR="/etc"
  ISPELL="/usr/bin/ispell"
  To contact the developers, please mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Can someone help me get mutt working correctly?

Thanks!
David

P.S. I have not altered my .muttrc file during the upgrade except to
  newly define "spoolfile".

maildir2mbox ?

2000-12-09 Thread Nollaig MacKenzie

I found a nice script, mbox2maildir, which
converts a mbox file to a maildir format.
I know that the inverse script, maildir2mbox,
exists, but I can't find it. Anyone got the
address of an FTP site - ?

Cheers, N.

gpg verify key, question

If and when I verify a signature, sometimes it chops up my tty, and I
know by issuing a CTRL-L, it will refresh the screen. Is their a way to
send this key stroke sequence after verifying a key?

With regard to your terminal problems, I see that you used to use
SLang but with the new compile you've switched to ncurses. The only
problem with that is that ncurses is now at version 5.2! I suspect you'd
find that mutt works a great deal better with a recent ncurses.

The same two lines from my system...

  Mutt 1.2.5i (2000-07-28)
  System: FreeBSD 4.2-STABLE [using ncurses 5.1]

I'm not sure about the problems with postponed messages. I can't
reproduce it, so I can't even suggest what's wrong.

 Can someone help me get mutt working correctly?

I hope the above information will help.

 Thanks!

Rumor has it that Microsoft -- apparently not understanding the GPL --
bought the code, and the implementers are getting ready to retire filthy
rich.

One of the enhancements M$ are planning is to add voice instructions. They
are trying to get the same woman who does all those "Press 5 if you want
to dump core" voice mail messages.

The expected release date is in late 2007.

yes (scrolling is improved, and - for people who insist that vt100's
do color - there's a feature to suppress the padding that's in vt100's
terminal description).

the main problem with 1.9.9e for mutt is that the colors aren't done properly.

auto expire

2000-12-09 Thread Larry Fletcher

I have a script to expire folders at the end of my .profile that runs
once-a-day. I could just leave there, but I recently changed some
things and now I would like to have Anacron run it. The problem is
that Anacron won't run the following command:

mutt -f =mutt -e 'set delete;push D~r2wenterq'

This is the error message:

No recipients specified.
run-parts: /etc/cron.test/muttxpr exited with return code 1

Does anyone know if there's way to change the command so it will work?
I spent some time fooling around, but I just can't figure it out.

Can't modify mail folders after upgrade to 1.2.5

Indeed. I upgraded to a personal copy (--prefix=$HOME) of ncurses 5.2.
No more terminal display problems. Thanks!

 I'm not sure about the problems with postponed messages. I can't
 reproduce it, so I can't even suggest what's wrong.

I still observe this. I execute mutt -p and when I select one of the
messages, mutt dumps core with the message:

  Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I can use "mutt -f =postponed" to view messages in =postponed without
any problem, as long, it seems, as I don't try to update the file.
If I try to delete one, as soon as I exit with 'q', I get the same
core dump and message, and the message is not deleted. If I mark for
deletion and don't try to write the mailbox, i.e., exit with 'x', no
core dump occurs.

I just did more testing. It seems I can't update any mail folders.
If I mark a message for deletion, whether by using 'd' or 's', as
soon as I try to commit the changes, whether by using 'q' or '$', I
get a segfault core dump.

So it seems that I can't modify mail folders. Help!

Silly thought, but permissions? On the "Mail" directory perhaps. Anything
to do with the ncurses library being in user space.

How to change top help bar?

2000-12-09 Thread Petr Hlustik

Hi,

Is it possible to change the help bar at the top of mutt screen? E.g., in
the index, the default is:

q:Quit  d:Del  u:Undel  s:Save  m:Mail  r:Reply  g:Group  ?:Help

I found various _formats but not this one.

Thanks very much,
Petr
