shorten mailbox name in Mailboxes view

2002-05-28 Thread m2

My Mailboxes view looks like this:

 2 /mnt/reiser/oivvio/mail/bio/bioinformatics/
 3 /mnt/reiser/oivvio/mail/bio/bionet-software/
 4 /mnt/reiser/oivvio/mail/comp/admin/babar/
 5 N /mnt/reiser/oivvio/mail/comp/admin/matijek/
 6 /mnt/reiser/oivvio/mail/comp/admin/matijek/cron/
 7 N /mnt/reiser/oivvio/mail/comp/admin/tyrell/
 8 N /mnt/reiser/oivvio/mail/comp/debian/firewall/
 9 N /mnt/reiser/oivvio/mail/comp/debian/kde/
10 N /mnt/reiser/oivvio/mail/comp/debian/laptop/
..

And I'd like it to look like this:

 2 /bio/bioinformatics/
 3 /bio/bionet-software/
 4 /comp/admin/babar/
 5 N /comp/admin/matijek/
 6 /comp/admin/matijek/cron/
 7 N /comp/admin/tyrell/
 8 N /comp/debian/firewall/
 9 N /comp/debian/kde/
10 N /comp/debian/laptop/

I've looked into folder_format, but it doesn't seem like I can use it
to get this done.

What do I have to do?

Managing mailboxes with fixed prefix

2002-05-28 Thread robian

Hi,

I am new to mutt. Coming from Win/Eudora, I hope you can imagine it's quite a
transition. Still I can see why so many people are enthusiastic about this
application.

I have a question that I hope is easy to solve for experienced users.

In .muttrc I have: mailboxes +IN-foobarA +IN-foobarB and also:
mbox-hook =IN-foorbarA =foobarA etc.

Now for every new mailbox I want to use, I need to edit .muttrc in at least two
locations. Is it possible, given the naming conventions, to have only one entry
for mailboxes and only one line with mbox-hook.

I know regexp exists but that's about is.

I have subscribed to mutt-users, but have so far not received a confirmation or
other message from this list. So may I humbly ask for a reply to my private
email address in case my subscription doesn't work.

Thanks,
Bob.

How to make Mutt to automatically download mails??

Hi All,
I want to know how to configure Mutt in order to check and download mails

still it is not working. Please help.

While it's not recommended and discussion of it could start another Holy

from there.

If you plan to trade mail with LookOut! users, though, it isn't quite
that easy; you'll need either 1.5.x or Dale's pgp-traditional patch for
1.3.x (which you can get from

  http://mutt.justpickone.org/mutt-build-cocktail/

or from, IIRC, woolridge.org/mutt) to really, really break mutt and force
it down to Outhouse's level.

Go and get fetchmail and use it instead. Much better. AIUI mutt will
only pop down mail when you invoke the function; there is no automatic
version.

You can use backticks to configure mutt by commands. Given
that, use something like:

  mailboxes `ls -d ~/.mutt/IN.*`

and a short shell script which will do the mbox-hooks.

Cheers, Rocco.

Folder format only knows %f for the filename. Since my names

You'll have to tell mutt to start downloading the mails
(IIRC, 'G' is bound to it by default). Why it doesn't work
in your case... I don't know because too less input (or
better: none at all).

Btw, why don't you use fetchmail instead? It has lots of
advantages besides that it can be run automatically.

Cheers, Rocco.

GMT does not change in the summer. GMT is GMT all year round. That's
why it's Greenwich Mean Time and not Greenwich Most-of-the Time. UK
Daylight time is BST , or GMT+1.

Automatic choosing of from: address

2002-05-28 Thread Michael Herman

Hello.

I am thinking about changing MUAs from Sylpheed to Mutt. There is a
feature in Sylpheed that I have come to really like and I'm wondering
if it is available in Mutt.

Can I automatically pick the correct From: address based on the mailbox I
am currently reading mail in?

I use multiple mailboxes for work and personal e-mails. When I reply
to a work e-mail, it uses my work address as the from address and the
same for my personal e-mail.

Thanks.

Yes. There's one feature that uses whatever address a message was sent
to as the sender address for replies (so long as you've designated it as
your address).

There are also several hook facilities. The folder-hook command lets
you execute any configuration commands upon changing to a new folder.
This could involve changing your sender address, changing pgp options,
changing your signature, anything.

need a *lot* more features to switch to mutt...
so i wonder what the next feature request is. ;-)
