My thoughts exactly. I'd tag all relevant messages, and then just
hit ';g' or whatever over the message where I want the followups to
appear. This would be a really nice feature, ...

Don Blaheta implemented a version of this for mutt 0.80 in August
1997. He nevr quite finished it, and no one else picked it up. I
still have the message he posted to the list with the patche, if you
can't find it in an archive.

Replying to multiple messages

2000-05-30 Thread Bob Bell

I really like the ability in mutt to be able to reply to (thereby
quoting) multiple messages in a single response. Also, the threading
of messages in wonderful. However, when I reply to multiple messages,
often it picks up the "References" from a message other than the one I
want, and subsequent replies are sorted under a different thread than
I desired.

Is there any way to specify which message should be used to set
the "References" field?

Not that I know of.

I wonder how something like this could be implemented? It would be
quite unpractical to keep a list of tagging order or anything like that.
Maybe something like "if the current message is tagged, use that as a
reference"..?

I have no idea how easy/difficult this would be to implement, although
it certainly would be possible.

currently getting messed up... Maybe I should look into it myself...

Just my $0.02: There have been a number of times when I've wanted just
this feature myself.

In my limited experience, mutt figures its Refs: and I-R-T: fields
from the first message in the tagged list, probably based on the current
sort order. Thus, you could save all of the messages in question --
with the one you want as the reference maker *first* -- right back to
the current mailbox and then tag-reply from *those*. The nice thing is
that this doesn't break threading (though it messes up an unsorted view;
I'd use ;C to copy them somewhere for working (and reordering) and then
;r to just write the reply flag, and even ;t to clear the tagging :-)
