Can send-hook set from take precedence over reverse_name?

2009-10-01 Thread Marianne Promberger
Dear mutt users,

I have

set reverse_name

I also have some send-hooks like this:

send-hook ~t domain.com 'set from=My Name addr...@domain.com'

Currently, if I reply to some...@domain.com, the From in the reply
gets set to whatever some...@domain.com sent it to, not to the line
specified in the send-hook. I.e., reverse_name takes precedence. This
happens no matter which of reverse_name or send-hook I put first in my
muttrc.

I would like the send-hooks to take precedence over reverse_name. Is
this possible?

Marianne

According to the manual, both my_hdr and $reverse_name override
$from. So looks you would have to use my_hdr in your send-hook.

send-hook ~t domain.com 'my_hdr From: My Name addr...@domain.com'

send-hook set from

I have the following in my .muttrc:

send-hook '~t plogic.com' 'set signature=~/.signature.work from="Adam Lazur
[EMAIL PROTECTED]"'

Which I think is telling mutt that want it to use my plogic.com
address and work signature when emailing people at plogic.com.

However, it doesn't work that way. It will change the signature, but
from doesn't get changed.

The odd thing is, if I test email to plogic.com twice in a row, from
_will_ change after the first time. Is there an issue with setting the
from variable with a send-hook ?

Oh, btw, I'm using mutt 1.1.11 (haven't gotten around to 1.1.12 yet)

Indeed, there is. You can set it but it won't affect the current
message, only messages afterwards. Use my_hdr From: (as suggested
by someone else already). You will probably want to also have a
unmy_hdr From: in a default send-hook.

Another thing is that $from is only the address, you still need to
set the name portion with $realname.
