Re: FreeBSD 5.x
SQL MySQL under FreeBSD 5.x works way much better than under FreeBSD 4.x but still not at production level. In my experience it works fine on a single CPU box and with relatively small tables. If the tables grow really big (tens of Gigs) and/or in SMP mode (including HT), then FreeBSD's behaviour is unacceptable. It randomly crashes in random places. Tested on 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, etc. Only linuxthreads tested, no KSE. We use FreeBSD-5.2.1 with one HT P4 processor. And mysql-4.1.1 with KSE. There are many tables ~0.5G and some ~1.1G They unite into merge table. (near 1000 000 000 records in summary :) ) This work without crash for me. But mysqld with KSE doesn't shutdown under havy loading. But I wrote this before. Re: FreeBSD 5.x
Hi. SQL I use mysql-4.0.X under FreeBSD-5.2.1 There is no problem with libc_r. But under heavy loading with kse mysqld doesn't shutdown. This problem isn't only with kse. It was discussed some weeks ago. And if I remember it is exist with any other pthreads and under linux too. With kse mysql do concurrent selects more faster on MyISAM tables. For example: the same 2 selects with kse - 11 sec the same 2 selects with c_r - ~18 sec Peter wrote: | Hi, | Thanks for the reply :-)) | Any corruptions on MyIsam tables ? MySQL and FreeBSD 5.x - Using LinuxThreads or not?
Hi all, We are about to upgrade one of our database servers to a Dual Xeon machine with HT. We have been testing FreeBSD 5.x for 6-7 months on a Uniprocessor box and we haven't had any problems with the platform. We would like to use FreeBSD 5 on our new database server since the SMP support is superior in the new release compared to the 4.x branch. I did some reading on the topic at Jeremy Zawodny's website: http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/000697.html and he suggests that the best solution is to use LinuxThreads when compiling MySQL under FreeBSD. His initial article covered FreeBSD 4.x - http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/000203.html Have any of you had any experience with stability/performance under FreeBSD 5.x and MySQL 4.0.x? Should the LinuxThread library still be used when compiling for maximum performance or has the problems been solved in Regards -- Lasse Laursen · VP, Hosting Technology · NetGroup A/S St. Kongensgade 40H · DK-1264 Copenhagen K, Denmark Phone: +45 3370 1526 · Fax: +45 3313 0066 - Don't be fooled by cheap finnish imitations - BSD is the One True Code -- MySQL General Mailing List For list archives: http://lists.mysql.com/mysql To unsubscribe:http://lists.mysql.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]
MySQL with LinuxThreads under FreeBSD 5.x?
Hello, is there any use under FreeBSD 5.x for having MySQL compiled WITH_LINUXTHREADS? I only have one processor (does it have anything to do with that?), running 5.1, and 256MB of memory. Are there some benchmarks published wrt this? Thank you Jan -- MySQL General Mailing List For list archives: http://lists.mysql.com/mysql To unsubscribe:http://lists.mysql.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I believe that is still the recommended way to run MySQL under FreeBSD yes. Have a look at http://www.mysql.com/documentation/mysql/bychapter/manual_Installing.html#FreeBSD and http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/000697.html FreeBSD 5.x has got some good stuff going on with threading libraries, but it's not ready for mainstream use yet.
