Title:
lircmd is not started properly by lirc init script when devinput is
  used

Status in lirc package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: lirc

lircmd (lirc mouse daemon) must be started with the -u option when
  devinput is used.

This is not done correctly by the /etc/init.d/lirc startup script if
the lircmd is started by specifiying

  START_LIRCMD="true"

  in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf.

  If /etc/init.d/lirc:

if [ "$START_LIRCMD" = "true" ]; then
[ -d "/var/run/lirc" ] || mkdir -p "/var/run/lirc"
log_daemon_msg "Starting remote control mouse daemon :
LIRCMD "
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --oknodo --exec
/usr/sbin/lircmd < /dev/null
log_end_msg $?
fi

  is changed to

if [ "$START_LIRCMD" = "true" ]; then
[ -d "/var/run/lirc" ] || mkdir -p "/var/run/lirc"
log_daemon_msg "Starting remote control mouse daemon :
LIRCMD "
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --oknodo --exec
/usr/sbin/lircmd -- -u < /dev/null
log_end_msg $?
fi

it works in devinput mode . (there is also a restart section further
  down that needs editing)

However, this is not the right way to do it in the general case, since it
will not work if devinput is NOT used.
Some trick to select when to use/not to use the "-u" switch must be applied.

  [Hardy] Lirc devinput (linux-input-layer) broken

Status in lirc package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hardy Beta1. Clean install.

I have an SAA7134-based board with a remote control that I've been
using for long with LIRC, before hardy. Now it seems support for this
  type of devices is broken.

  This is the info:

  cat /proc/bus/input/devices

  I: Bus=0001 Vendor=185b Product=c100 Version=0001
N: Name="saa7134 IR (Compro VideoMate TV"
  P: Phys=pci-:05:01.0/ir0
  S: Sysfs=/devices/pci:00/:00:1e.0/:05:01.0/input/input6
  U: Uniq=
  H: Handlers=kbd event6
  B: EV=13
  B: KEY=108c0222 2110801 0 0 19080006801 e1680 ffc

  You can see
My hardware.conf is attached. I'll also attach lircd.conf.
I noticed that hardware.conf format has changed, and adapted my configuration
accordingly.

After reboot irw stays mute, it doesn't get any remote keypress.

Doing /etc/init.d/lirc stop; and then launching lircd in non-daemon
mode gives me (I'm connecting to lircd with irw):

  $ sudo lircd -n --driver=dev/input --device=/dev/input/event6
lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: you should specify a valid gap value
  lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: lircd(userspace) ready
lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
  lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: initializing '/dev/input/event6'
lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: can't get exclusive access to events comming from
`/dev/input/event6' interface

Then, nothing happens. The terminal that is on focus will get numeric
keys from the remote (because this is a linux-input-layer type
device), which also happened in gutsy. But in gutsy, lircd trapped
those events and processed them, and sent them to the connected lirc
  clients (e.g. irw).

BTW, those number keypresses I get in the terminals demonstrate that
my hardware and the remote are fine, and also that the kernel module
  looks good as well.

[Mythbuntu-bugs] [Bug 454586] Re: package lirc 0.8.6-0ubuntu2 kernel oops on removal

2016-11-01 Thread LocutusOfBorg
Hi, can you please try again with the latest lirc from zesty (a.k.a. upcoming
17.04 version), and set the status back to "new" in case you still experience
such issue?
You can also try it from my ppa, where I backported it to xenial and yakkety
releases (16.04 and 16.10)
https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/ubuntu/costamagnagianfranco-ppa

package lirc 0.8.6-0ubuntu2 kernel oops on removal

Status in lirc package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: lirc

lirc causes a kernel oops upon rmmod. This causes each upgrade of lirc
to fail until the next reboot. It worked fine with the lirc version in
jaunty, but broke with the next newer lirc version, and has been
broken since a while. apport-kde also crashed trying to create a
proper report, so no attachments today.

[Mythbuntu-bugs] [Bug 471754] Re: package lirc 0.8.6-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade:

2016-11-01 Thread LocutusOfBorg
Hi, can you please try again with the latest lirc from zesty (a.k.a. upcoming
17.04 version), and set the status back to "new" in case you still experience
such issue?
You can also try it from my ppa, where I backported it to xenial and yakkety
releases (16.04 and 16.10)
https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/ubuntu/costamagnagianfranco-ppa

[Mythbuntu-bugs] [Bug 681502] Re: package lirc 0.8.6-0ubuntu4.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 20

[Mythbuntu-bugs] [Bug 815355] Re: package lirc 0.8.7-0ubuntu4.1 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 128 zurück

Hi, can you please try again with the latest lirc from zesty (a.k.a. upcoming
17.04 version), and set the status back to "new" in case you still experience
such issue?
You can also try it from my ppa, where I backported it to xenial and yakkety
releases (16.04 and 16.10)

system crashed during install of kde-full meta-package.
a text mode screen opened up aksing if I wated to configure something that
looked like remote access to my machine without any explanation of what it was.
I decided to kill the process out of paranoia and a crash report was generated
on the next login. So here we are.

  The moral of the story?
Don't ask a user if they want to configure remote access. Just assume they
don't wan't it in the first place, and don't even attempt to install it unless
it was specifically requested by the end user.

In my case and to my knowledge I made no such request, and if this was
part of the defalut kde-full meta-package, then it should be removed
unless you want to see more crash reports like this one.

Title:
package lirc 0.9.0-0ubuntu3 failed to fully install, stop, uninstall
  or anything else

Status in lirc package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I've been having lots of trouble with lirc since upgrading to 13.04.
When the system boots, lirc seems to freeze and also blocks other
daemons like LCDd and a few other from running. When I try to remove
lirc it freezes the process. I found that trying to stop the lirc
service also causes a freeze. I found a workaround where I could
remove the stop command from the /var/lib/dpkg/info/lirc.prerm; purge
lirc; reboot; reinstall lirc and everything worked fine unless I tried
to stop lirc by any means, including reboot. If I tried to reboot, it
would freeze. However, I'm not unable to use this workaround as I can
no longer get lirc to install properly at all. When it starts the
service just after popping up the config screen on install, it
freezes. I've had do kill dpkg which has caused some other issues
that I should be able to fix. But no matter how many times I try to
purge lirc, reboot and reinstall, I can't get it to install anymore.
I use this PC as an HTPC and need lirc support or I'm going to need to
learn a new distro, which I don't look forward to. Please help!

Running irw does nothing, running it a second time gives "Connection

  xbmc@Media-PC:~$ irw
  xbmc@Media-PC:~$ irw
  connect: Connection refused

After the first irw, lirc is already 'hanging'! Restarting the lirc service
at this point will hang the terminal which you will try to run it from.
Sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc will also hang the terminal plus give a
dpkg-configure -a error on next boot.
On reboot the system will hang as well, only option being REISUB.

2016-10-26 Thread LocutusOfBorg
maybe you had the broken version still around your system.
now that the fix landed on updates, I guess only people who did the upgrade
yesterday between 10 hours where the package was buggy might suffer from this
bug.
(and meh, it is not even alpha, so I won't try to debug it further, unless more
people complains :) )

* debian/lirc.postinst, debian/lirc.templates, debian/po: drop a number of
debconf templates that are no longer being prompted for at all due to

* debian/lirc.postinst: drop code for removing /var/log/lircd, which has
been gone for more than a decade.
* fix blacklist handling, which creates files not used by modprobe, and
doesn't put all the contents in a single file.
* drop obsolete Ubuntu migration code that dates from jaunty and lucid.
* fix a bug that causes transmitter device/driver settings to always be
  cleared on config change.
* Adjust lircd handling for multiple devices so that events for all of
them will appear on /dev/lircd as intended. Thanks to Joel Ebel for
