Re: [Nagios-users] Ubuntu Server + Nagios 2.5
Matthew Joyce wrote: When you deploy Debian Sarge with Nagios 2.5, do you build it in the 'Debain way' ? That is, does your 2.5 use the same folder location and config location as earlier Nagios version ? No we don't. As a matter of fact, I've tried the Debian package only once on a test machine and I don't remember exactly how the layout was (probably binaries in /usr/bin, configs in /etc/nagios, and so on). I use the default installation which puts everything in /usr/local/nagios as it is, imo, much easier to maintain, everything related to Nagios being at the same place. One downside might be the configuration of the backup procedure: you have to remember to save not only /etc and /var but also /usr/local/nagios/etc and /usr/local/nagios/var. -- Thibault GENESSAY ALIADIS www.aliadis.fr Tel. +33 4 72 13 90 40 Fax +33 4 74 22 00 09 - Take Surveys. I would be grateful if I get some pointers for sending notifications using SMS to a cell number, in case of service failures and recoveries. I went through the nagios docs. They have mentioned quite a few options for using SMS as a notification method. But it seems that one needs to subscribe to the services of a service provider to use any of those options. And the service provider should be providing services in your country/location. Is it possible to use this notification without subscribing to any specific paid service ? I am extremely sorry if this question has already been answered before. Thanks In Advance Yogesh Yogesh I can help you to set up SMS'ing with a modem that has a SIM-card in. Re: [Nagios-users] SMS notifications to a cell phone
I use 'qpage', which drives a direct attach modem, through a dedicated analog line. Most cell phone providers, including Verizon, support using the TAP protocol to send messages to mobile phones as text messages. http://www.qpage.org/ https://www.vtext.com/customer_site/jsp/aboutservice.jsp yes i should have said - we use qpage to send the page via the modem to the carrier and then they send it off to our pagers. we tried SMS v's pager and prefer pager as they are less easy to sleep through and we found reliability was better - we had too many SMS's just vanish - Take Surveys. [Nagios-users] small alternative frontend
Hi, I'm looking for a small front-end cgi that should be extremely simple. If everything is OK, it should display a green background and say that everything is OK. If warning, it should display an orange background and list services/hosts that are warned. If critical, it should display a red background and list services/hosts with errors and warnings. I believe the reason no solution has been posted online is that whatever solution is used isn't sharable across national borders. Yep, Nagios did not help us for that so we have implemented it in a custom notification script. In fact, Nagios is configured for everything in 24x7 notification periods, and the script does the filtering, so Nagios ignores whether any notification is actually sent. This might seem uncomfortable, but we've been using this technique for quite a long time now and no problem ever arouse from it. My Nagios server is returning this error when executing the check_by_ssh plugin, which also includes the check_oracle plugin. Here's the scenario. I have a remote server, called olympus, that is running Oracle 9.2.0.6. I want to be able to monitor tablespace size using the check_oracle plugin. I have copied the check_oracle plugin to the remote server, olympus, and have successfully run the plugin on olympus. When I run the check_oracle plugin I am logged in as nagios. e.g. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_oracle --tablespace mwmt01 nagios password TS01 98 96 mwmt01 : TS01 OK - 18.80% used [ 487 / 600 MB available ]|TS01=18.80%;96;98;0;100 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ This is what I expected. Now, from my Nagios Server, dev02, I would like to be able to monitor the oracle tablespace on olympus. I first tested ssh by executing the following command from dev02: dev02: # su - nagios [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ ssh -i /usr/local/nagios/.ssh/id_dsa olympus "/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_oracle --tablespace mwmt01 nagios password TS01 98 96" mwmt01 : TS01 OK - 18.80% used [ 487 / 600 MB available ]|TS01=18.80%;96;98;0;100 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ As you can see, I can ssh from my Nagios server and have it execute the check_oracle plugin on olympus. Everything is good so far. My goal is to to setup Nagios to run this. I now want to check the tabespace on olympus by using the Nagios plugin: check_by_ssh. Below is the command that is executed on dev02: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_by_ssh -H olympus-i /usr/local/nagios/.ssh/id_dsa-C "/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_oracle --tablespace mwmt01 nagios password TS01 98 96" CRITICAL - ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ The last 2 commands are both run from the Nagios Server.
