[Nagios-users] Any GUI Configuration tool for Nagios 3.x recommendations?
Hello The last time I asked the list about this, there was very little response, so I'm going to ask again. I'd like to ask list members for their recommendations for front end GUIs for configuring Nagios 3.x. The Lilac Platform (http://www.lilacplatform.com/) looks interesting but its dependency list is putting me off at the moment. What else is good for Nagios 3.0.3 and upwards? Command line is fine but I keep thinking that there must be more interesting ways to spend the day ;) Also I'd like to know that if I change my mind and don't want to use the GUI any more, that my original Nagios data (cfg files) will still be left in a usable form. If no-one's interested this time, I promise to drop the subject. Re: [Nagios-users] Any GUI Configuration tool for Nagios 3.xrecommendations?
Hi, An interesting project http://nagiosadmin.de It works with an mysql db. Dependencies are php5 and some php5 libs. Pro: - easy to install - simpel to handle/configure hosts and services (for admins without linux/nagios knowledgement) - languarge could be changed in the webconsole (german and english) - host services could be configured with one click. I think they scann for open ports on the host. Neg: - You have to build up you nagios system one more time. Existing nagios cfgs can't be imported - Timeperiods and Dependancies must be modified throu console. It is not implementet (I don't know if it would be in future) - The configuration will be saved to the mysqldb, so you can't go back. Thats my opinion/experience with that program. I have installed it in my nagios playground and configured it with some sample hosts and services. I can't tell anything about performance in big installations. Pretty easy to modify the code for use with nagios v3, but again, this didn't support multiple parents which we use quite heavily here. Re: [Nagios-users] Advanced authentication
Thanks for the replies. Ultimately what we would like to do is authenticate the user via another website that we already use as a single sign-on portal for other web applications. Once they're logged in there, we would pass their username over to Nagios via URL querystring or hidden form value, etc (not going for maximum security). On the Nagios server we would use PHP to populate the REMOTE_USER Apache ENV variable with the passed username so that Nagios can compare that to the contacts and provide them with their applicable views. Currently we are able to pass the username value to the Nagios server and we appear to be populating the Apache ENV variable successfully via PHP using apache_setenv('REMOTE_USER', '[username]'); however when we then redirect to the Nagios homepage, Nagios does not appear to be picking up the username. It states that we're logged in as ? and obviously nothing is accessible. Questions: Is it necessary to modify the Nagios/cgi config in any way to achieve what we're doing? Is is necessary to modify the Apache config? Is is necessary to set any other ENV variables besides REMOTE_USER? Thanks for any assistance/guidance you can provide!
