[Nagios-users-br] Problemas na instalação do N RPE

2008-10-30 Thread Marcio Fiorette
Lista,

funcionar.

Basta instalar,configura-lo e starta-lo.

You might also want to check that you have the servicegroup.cfg file (or
whatever you have called it) either in a directory referenced by
'cfg_dir' or directly called in by your nagios.cfg file.

I would think nagiosQL would do that for you, but a quick test would be
to manualyl edit the servicegroup file and deliberately put an error in
it. If it barfs up an error, then you can be sure its reading the file
in

applications. Once they're logged in there, we would pass their username
over to Nagios via URL querystring or hidden form value, etc (not going for
 maximum security).

Indeed not, anyone who wants can pretend to be anyone else. Still, if it's an
internal intranet, and you capture the IP addresses, you can find out whodunit

On the Nagios server we would use PHP to populate the
REMOTE_USER Apache ENV variable with the passed username so that Nagios can
compare that to the contacts and provide them with their applicable views.

I'm afraid you can't do that. You would set the REMOTE_USER (or any other env)
for the scope of that PHP page ONLY.

One option would be to edit all the nagios CGIs to look for the username in
the query string, and set the variable at the top of the CGI (in main). Or
replace all instances of ENV.REMOTE_USER with a function which

Another option might be to execute the cgi's from a PHP page which pre-sets
the username. You could use mod_rewrite to rewrite *.cgi to
nagportal.php?cgi=*.cgi.

In both cases you would have to maintain the username throughout the session.
If you edit all the links in nagios on the fly to pass in a new username,
(change status.cgi to status.cgi?username=bob), you would have a problem with
people emailing links to others.

One option for this would be to use PHP's session capabilities to store the
username.
You would set a cookie with the username in and read it on each call. That would
work with both the php and the editing-the-cgi way.

Both of those solutions are a fair amount of effort.

A final solution could be using the apache module SetEnvIf. Something like
 SetEnvIf Cookies:.*loginname=(username);.* REMOTE_USER=\1

But I don't think SetEnvIf will let you do that.

What you're trying to do isn't that easy, as it goes against normal
authentication
practices.

Is it necessary to modify the Nagios/cgi config in any way to achieve what
 we're doing?

Perhaps

Is is necessary to modify the Apache config?
Perhaps

Is is necessary to set any other ENV variables besides REMOTE_USER?
No

2008-10-30 Thread Assaf Flatto
How did you configure the nagios to send the emails?
is the nagios relaying via a different mail server or is a mail server running
on the same machine ?

Also the pager - how are you sending the notifications ? external service or in
house ?

 Hello,

I seem to be having a rather difficult time getting notifications to
work the way that I would like. I'm using a test host to have Nagios
generate alerts when I take it offline. Nagios detects and sends
notifications for the host coming back on-line very quickly. What I'm
doing in order to test my config is to then simulate that the host
fails again in a few minutes. The problem I'm seeing is that it takes
Nagios 15-20 minutes to send a notification that the host is again
down. This would be useless to me in a production environment; if the
host drops again -- I need to know about it immediately.

OK, I've been through the docs and have checked everything that seems
to make sense in order to figure out this issue -- with no success.
I'm running Nagios 3.0.2. Please see some output I've included below
to see the time lag between when Nagios notices the host is down again
and when it sends the notification.

 Thanks!

[Nagios-users] host with multiple addresses and check_nrpe

2008-10-30 Thread Daniel López
Hi all,

i've succesfully created a host with multiple addresses like this:

define host{
use server-sistemes
host_name Cluster-correu
alias Sun Cluster Correu
address host1,host2,host3
}

and check_host_alive returns ok if host1 answers.

This works as expected in http://www.nagios.org/faqs/viewfaq.php?faq_id=146

Now, check_nrpe doesn't take host1 as the $HOSTADDRESS$
but host1,host2,host3.

** FRom faq_id=146 **
Nagios simply passes this address to plugins and external commands via the
$HOSTADDRESS$ macro. You'll have to make sure that you host check command
(and possibly service checks, etc.) can understand the format of your host's
address in order to check it though.

Does not check_nrpe handle correctly the list of addresses?

What we want to achieve is executing some checks through nrpe in either of
hosts 1,2 or 3 (whatever that is alive) but not on the three because the
result will be the same.

How could i handle this?

greetings and thanks in advance,

dani

[Nagios-users] several separate status maps with one nagios process - possible?

2008-10-30 Thread Tomasz Chmielewski
Is it possible to set up the web interface so that it shows several
*separate* status maps (i.e., in different browser windows on different
displays)?

My status map doesn't fit on one screen for some time now, and it's
getting worse as I keep adding new hosts (more than 100 now).

Playing with Drawing Layers include/exclude doesn't help, as the only
thing it does is removing host text/icons from the map; still, the area
occupied by the host is visible. What's worse, such inclusion/exclusion
is gone as the status map autorefreshes.

Is it somehow possible to set up several separate, persistent status maps?
Or the only solution is to use multiple monitors, Xinerama and such to
resize the status map window on several monitors (I'd prefer to have
separate windows on separate monitors).

Does not check_nrpe handle correctly the list of addresses?

No, it does not. Most of the standard nagios plugins wouldn't. They
expect a single host address.

What we want to achieve is executing some checks through nrpe in
 either of
hosts 1,2 or 3 (whatever that is alive) but not on the three because
 the
 result will be the same.

 How could i handle this?

Write a wrapper plugin that accepts multiple host addresses,
determines the 'aliveness' of host 1, 2 and 3, runs check_nrpe against
the one you're interested in and returns the results, including exit
code to nagios?

[Nagios-users] How to Create Graph on Nagios WebInterface

2008-10-30 Thread Novin Jaiswal
Hi Friends,

Few days back only I have started working with Nagios. Its really
amazing tool which is already setup by one of my x-colleague.

We have a host deveserver1 which is been monitor by Nagios on a
different machine using NRPE client.

We are using Nagios Lo4j appender(client) to send some pegCount(how many
times some one hit devserver1) via log4j message to Nagios for
devserver1 for service PegCount.

My Message format is : hostname servicename pegcount for e.g
devserver1 PegCount 10

The message are successfully reached on Nagios but I want to create
Graph over the time period based on the these pegcount for deveserver1.

In the current Graph for PegCount service it show have OK, warning,
unknown ,critical on x-axis Instead of that I want the pegcount value
sent by the client on x-axis to be shown.

I have attached sample png file of current graph with this email. Please
have a look.

Thanks !!! Your help is appreciated.

Thanks Regards

I have achieved something like you describe with a Reverse Proxy SSO
called Vulture NG (http://vulture.open-source.fr/wiki/). It works
really well when you need to authenticate on differents nagios servers

Maybe this can help you

Ultimately what we would like to do is authenticate the user via
 another
website that we already use as a single sign-on portal for other web
applications. Once they're logged in there, we would pass their
 username
over to Nagios via URL querystring or hidden form value, etc (not
 going for
maximum security). On the Nagios server we would use PHP to
 populate the
REMOTE_USER Apache ENV variable with the passed username so that
 Nagios can
compare that to the contacts and provide them with their applicable
 views.

You can pass htaccess authentication as part of the URL but I don't
know if it's sticky for links accessed from that page --

 http://username:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm not aware of other methods to transparently pass it but they may
exist. htaccess has been around for quite a long time.

This is all that nagios can display natively since the state is all it
really cares about. I'm not familiar with Lo4j but if it can return
the pegcount as performance data
(http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/perfdata.html
), you can use something like PNP4Nagios or APAN to graph it. Those,

Hi all,

My settngs were:

I've changed my max_check_attempts to 1 as well, and that seems to

I've got the same setup using postfix (glorified snedmail) that I use here. I
think I even have documentation lying around somewhere. It's trivially easy to
set up the mta. You then just point your notification command to the proper
executable (probably usr/bin/sendmail in your case.

Joshua,

You have to configure the MTA on the nagios box to send the
notifications to your exchange server. There's nothing to do in Nagios
except having a mail command available to the notification script

[Nagios-users] How to Create Graph on Nagios WebInterface

2008-10-30 Thread Novin Jaiswal
Hi thanks for the reply.

When I hit http://stage5/nagios it shows different trends/graphs and
configuration setting of nagios using apache.

I found sbin folder under nagios folder where it is installed it.

In sbin folder there are 18 different cgi files. Using these file the
nagios web interface is generating the Graphs. I want to change these
graphs is there any way possible.

In the current Graph for PegCount service it show have OK, warning,
unknown ,critical on x-axis Instead of that I want the pegcount value
sent by the client on x-axis to be shown.

Thanks Regards

My Message format is : hostname servicename pegcount for e.g

 devserver1 PegCount 10

The message are successfully reached on Nagios but I want to create

Graph over the time period based on the these pegcount for

 deveserver1.

In the current Graph for PegCount service it show have OK, warning,

unknown ,critical on x-axis Instead of that I want the pegcount

I have attached sample png file of current graph with this email.

 Please have a look.

This is all that nagios can display natively since the state is all it

really cares about. I'm not familiar with Lo4j but if it can return

the pegcount as performance data
(http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/perfdata.html

), you can use something like PNP4Nagios or APAN to graph it. Those,

and similar addons, can be found at

cts%2FCharts%2Findex.html;d=1
