[Nagios-users] pnp4nagios configuration errors

Hi list,

I'm trying to setup and configure pnp4nagios [v0.6.6] on a currently working
Nagios Core [v3.2.0] system running on openSUSE 11.1

I installed pnp4nagios from source and also installed rrdtool using an rpm.
All was going well until I tried to verify the pnp configuration. Below are
the
specific errors;

Hello all,

I am new to Nagios. I just installed it and did all the necessary configuration
but when I open it on my browser, I can only view the documentation. The other
links I go keep showing me internal server error.

I checked the apache error logs and it was telling me that permission was
denied when trying to access the cgi files that come with Nagios. Please what
could be the problem?

Those files seem missing, how can I recover without rewriting nagios

I installed nagios using the quickstart howto, and the selinux is disabled.

Thank's for you help!

I installed nagios using the quickstart howto, and the selinux is
 disabled.

Did you recently upgrade apache, php or something like suphp?

Have you confirmed that the files are actually missing?
Ie. Have you cd'd to the directory and done an ls to confirm they're gone?

Regardless, if you're worried about your configuration, simply
copy/backup all the files from /usr/local/nagios/etc folder and then,
if you reload nagios exactly the same way as you did before, you can
just load the same config files back in should they accidentally get
wiped.

If you are using a source installation and not a package installation
(which I assume from the /usr/local/...) you can choose to not run the
step which copies the default config files over.

**
Eg. Skip the step which tells you to run make install-config
**

Review the contents of the INSTALL and README files inside the Nagios
source distribution for more information.

Re: [Nagios-users] Internal Server Error Occuring when trying to access Nagios on the browser

Welcome! I hope you enjoy using Nagios as much as I do.

A common reason for this problem is that the correct permissions are not
applied.

When you compiled nagios, did you run make install-webconf?

After that you should have reloaded the Apache config. The command for this
might vary depending on what Linux distribution you are using. As an
example, on Ubuntu it is..

  /etc/init.d/apache2 reload

Another problem can be that the Nagios daemon is not running. If you enter:

  ps -ef | grep nagios

does this show the daemon running?

It is also a good idea to check your nagios config before starting the
Nagios daemon. You do this by entering:

/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg

(you might need to alter those if you installed in a different location).
If the verification fails, you will need to fix whatever the problems are in
your config before continuing.

Which version of Linux are you using, and which instructions did you follow
when installing Nagios? Nagios can be installed in lots of different ways
so it will help to know which one you were working to.

Cheers,

Jim

Possibly. I've only done a little myself as well. What sort of
errors? Also, you'll find two examples and a couple of caveats on pages
4-6 of

if that helps.

(Also, it's probably best to keep this on the list so others can learn

You want to use WebInject for this (it's an extra library plus Nagios
plugin)
http://www.webinject.org/plugin.html

It lets you say first, go to Facebook. Then fill out the form with
these credentials. Submit those, now check the page it returns back.
You could even do something like checking whether someone is still your
friend, or whether your news feed contains some string.

[Nagios-users] The output of $SERVICEOUTPUT$ macro is blank ?

2010-08-24 Thread Mirza Dedic
I recently upgraded my Ubuntu OS (8.04 10.04) and Nagios from 3.0 to 3.1.2,
and recently I ran into an issue where the data for $SERVICEOUTPUT$ is never
included in my email notification.

It is defined properly in the notification.cfg file as per below:

define command{
command_namenotify-service-by-email
command_line/usr/bin/printf %b * Nagios
*\n\nNotification Type: $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$\n\nService: $SERVICEDESC$\nHost:
$HOSTALIAS$\nAddress: $HOSTADDRESS$\nState: $SERVICESTATE$\n\nDate/Time:

$NOTIFICATIONTYPE$ Service Alert: $HOSTALIAS$/$SERVICEDESC$ is $SERVICESTATE$
** $CONTACTEMAIL$
}

But in my email, it only has Additional Info: with nothing else.

How could I troubleshoot that $SERVICEOUTPUT$ is getting parsed properly and
working? Maybe its something with my mail client?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

[Nagios-users] Trouble Starting NagiosGrapher in Freebsd

2010-08-24 Thread Dorfman, Justin
Hello,

I hope I won't be chewed up since this is a third-party add-on question but
I am having some issues starting NagiosGrapher.

I installed Nagios (which is up and running perfect) and Nagios Grapher from
the ports collection. I followed these instructions (modified the proper
paths): https://www.netways.org/projects/grapher/wiki

Here is what I get when I try and start the service:

r...@nagios # /usr/local/etc/rc.d/nagiosgrapher start

Starting nagiosgrapher.

FYI here are some system variables:

   - FreeBSD 8.0-STABLE
   -
   - nagios-3.2.1
   - nagios-plugins-1.4.14_1
   - nagiosgrapher-1.7.1_3

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Nagios-users] The output of $SERVICEOUTPUT$ macro is blank ?

 The strange thing is..

 I replaced “/usr/bin/printf %b * Nagios *\”

With “/bin/echo –e Nagios *” and now my alerts include the missing
$SERVICEOUTPUT$ information that was not there previously.

I wonder why printf was causing this?

Did the actual output contain characters that printf might think are macros for
itself?

Re: [Nagios-users] pnp4nagios configuration errors - SOLVED

2010-08-24 Thread Julius Kidubuka
Thanks for your input Joerg.

I figured out that I forgot to restart Nagios after making the various
configurations - my bad!
