[Nagios-users] montior quagga bgp via snmp

2011-03-02 Thread Athiqur Rahman
Hi,

I am monitoring the state of my BGP session on my cisco with the
following command

check_snmp -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -o .1.3.6.1.2.1.15.3.1.2.$ARG1$ -s 6 -C testing

$ARG1$ being the IP address of my neighbour

Does anyone know the equivilant that I would use to monitor BGP on a
Linux Quagga router?

Thanks

[Nagios-users] looking for hardware sensors

2011-03-02 Thread Cory Coager
I'm looking for some cheap hardware usb/wifi sensors that are supported
in Linux to provide:
- temperature
- humidity
- water/flood
- smoke/fire

Some all-in-one devices would work as well as long as they aren't too
expensive. Otherwise I will have to run them off something like guruplug.

Here is some for temperature, humidity and water sensors (~$200):
http://www.digi.com/products/videosensors/watchportsensors.jsp#models

I haven't found anything for smoke/fire.

Does anyone know of any that work in Linux?

Re: [Nagios-users] Monitoring who is connected to Samba share

2011-03-02 Thread dave stern - e-mail.pluribus.unum
I don't know of any plug-in but you can roll your own.

If you're already running samba on a linux box, you can mess with
the output of net status shares
assuming users pick up (mount) their homes when they login to Windows.
I believe this also shows login times

For a more generic solution (if you don't want to run samba and join
the domain),
I've had some luck with the sysinternals tools, psloggedon. I set up
a scheduled
job on a windows host that searches all windows hosts for logins and dumps the
output to a share I can see on the linux side. A linux host then
parses the crap out
of this and makes a nice web page. Ugly, but it works. I bet a good
vbs programmer
could do it all on the windows side and this could be tied in to a
linux nagios server via
NRPE, NSClient++ NSCA or whatever.

[Nagios-users] NAGIOS NRPE for Windows. Error: CHECK_NRPE: Error - Could not complete SSL handshake.

2011-03-02 Thread Sal Ila
Hi All,

I am a newcomer in this list and new with using the product.

I am attempting to configure Nagios NRPE for UNIX in the Nagios Monitoring
server and NAGIOS NRPE for Windows in the monitored XP PC. The NRPE daemon
in the UNIX servers and the NRPE service in the Windows PC appear both
running. The Nagios console is able to show me the Windows XP PC and its
ping but the CPU load service shows critical and the message CHECK_NRPE:
Error - Could not complete SSL handshake.

I have changed the windows.cfg syntax in the UNIX monitoring server from
check_nt syntax to check_nrpe but the result was a different error.

define service{
use generic-service
host_name  windowsXP
service_description CPU Load
check_command   check_nrpe!pdm_cpuload
}

Any idea what the problem might be? Does the NRPE versions need to match the
same operating system? Do I need to manage NRPE UNIX clients with a UNIX
NRPE Monitoring server and NRPE Windows clients with a Windows NRPE
Monitoring server?

Thanks.

You'll need to enable ssl on the windows client
in the NSC.ini file there should be a commant use_ssl=0/1

uncomment it , set it to 1 and restart the nsclient service .

Re: [Nagios-users] Error in performance-data-output

2011-03-02 Thread Lichterfeld, Dirk
Hi Trond,

I´m sorry, at my company we use Outlook, so the highlighted text is distinctly
and visibly.

I will try to specify the problem I mean.

If I run NSClient++ in testmode I will get the follow output:

d NSClient++.cpp(1106) Injecting: Check_OpenManage:
d NSClient++.cpp(1142) Injected Result: OK 'OK - System: 'PowerEdge
R710 II', SN: 'XXX', 4 GB ra
m (2 dimms), 1 logical drives, 4 physical drives'
d NSClient++.cpp(1143) Injected Performance Result:
'fan_0_system_board_fan_1_rpm=3600;0;0 fan_1_sys
tem_board_fan_2_rpm=3600;0;0 fan_2_system_board_fan_3_rpm=3600;0;0
fan_3_system_board_fan_4_rpm=3600
;0;0 fan_4_system_board_fan_5_rpm=3600;0;0
pwr_mon_0_ps_1_current=0.4;0;0 pwr_mon_1_ps_2_current=0.4
;0;0 pwr_mon_2_system_board_system_level=175;917;966
temp_0_system_board_ambient=20;42;47
'

You can see, the injected perfomance result beginns and ends with a '.
1. I mean, that every description and only the description must be inside of
the signs '
  our output:  fan_2_system_board_fan_3_rpm
  must be:'fan_2_system_board_fan_3_rpm'
2. At the end is no special sign approved.

You can read this in chapter 2.6 Performance data at
http://nagiosplug.sourceforge.net/developer-guidelines.html

I hope I could describe the problem well enough.

Regards,
Dirk Lichterfeld

Esensors' EM01B units (http://www.eesensors.com/WebsensorEM01B.html) are
checked via http, so platform is irrelevant.

They also check illumination; if the area that you want checked is
constantly lit (or unlit) you could check for a rising light level that
flames would cause. It's a stretch, I know, but the sensors are cheap
and work well.

 A similar question came up here only a couple of weeks ago. This was

 If it's any help to you, the URL I now use is:

 http://webserver/nagios/cgi-bin/status.cgi?host=allhostprops=10servicestatustypes=29serviceprops=10sorttype=2sortoption=6noheader

 Even though this doesn't explictly show hosts, if a host is down you
 will still see it on this page because its services will also be down
 (or unknown or whatever).

 According to the Display Filters panel which appears if you remove the
 noheader, this one shows:

 Host Status Types:  All
 Host Properties:Not In Scheduled Downtime Has Not Been Acknowledged
 Service Status Types: Pending | Unknown | Warning | Critical
 Service Properties: Not In Scheduled Downtime Has Not Been Acknowledged

 and the sort is by state duration descending.

 Of course it won't show downed hosts if they have no services. I make
 sure all hosts have at least one service (even if that's just ping) so
 they can be seen on this service page.

Oke, that is getting close, need to add some service checks to hosts
that don't have that. However this will not show flapping events :(
something that is important. Not sure if it will show blocking outages.

 Hi Trond,

 I´m sorry, at my company we use Outlook, so the highlighted text is
 distinctly and visibly.

 I will try to specify the problem I mean.

 If I run NSClient++ in testmode I will get the follow output:

   d NSClient++.cpp(1106) Injecting: Check_OpenManage:
   d NSClient++.cpp(1142) Injected Result: OK 'OK - System: 'PowerEdge

   d NSClient++.cpp(1143) Injected Performance Result:

   tem_board_fan_2_rpm=3600;0;0 fan_2_system_board_fan_3_rpm=3600;0;0

   ;0;0 pwr_mon_2_system_board_system_level=175;917;966
 temp_0_system_board_ambient=20;42;47
   '

 You can see, the injected perfomance result beginns and ends with a '.

Yes, but I think that NSClient++ is responsible for that, putting
everything inside single quotes. As you can see it does that for the
plugin output as well.

 1. I mean, that every description and only the description must be inside of
 the signs '
   our output:  fan_2_system_board_fan_3_rpm
   must be:'fan_2_system_board_fan_3_rpm'
 2. At the end is no special sign approved.

 You can read this in chapter 2.6 Performance data at
 http://nagiosplug.sourceforge.net/developer-guidelines.html

 I hope I could describe the problem well enough.

Yes, thank you, this was much clearer :) However, the quotes are not
needed according to the guidelines for performance data[1]:

  3. the single quotes for the label are optional. Required if spaces, =
 or ' are in the label

The perfdata labels don't contain any of the offending characters.

Could it be that this is a Windows issue, or perhaps NSClient++?

Any NSClient++ users here who can confirm if this is the case? I'm
thinking that perhaps the underscore character '_' is throwing off
Windows or NSClient++.

I've seen these before, a little pricey but I'm considering them. Would
the light sensors really detect a fire? There must be some sensors
specifically for fire/smoke out there.

[Nagios-users] Solved. NAGIOS NRPE for Windows. Error: CHECK_NRPE: Error - Could not complete SSL handshake.

2011-03-02 Thread Sal Ila
Thanks to those people who have assisted me.

I installed the NRPE package for Windows available in SourgeForge.net but
this package has not the nsc.ini which you mentioned in your e-mails. You
somehow pointed me to the right direction and when I installed the
NSClient++ everything started to work well. As far as I can see, the NRPE
client doesn't have a specific document for the Windows installation and
always refer to the UNIX installation, although there is a Windows
installer.

Best regards

 You'll need to enable ssl on the windows client
 in the NSC.ini file there should be a commant use_ssl=0/1

 uncomment it , set it to 1 and restart the nsclient service .
